  2. The Thais really don't understand foreign investment via property ownership. They honestly think they are losing land and property to foreigners or that foreigners will somehow take over Thailand.

The amount of money they lose annually is vast and as property changes hands the amount of money being invested in the country grows.

I doubt Thailand will ever allow foreigners to own property as the are ignorant to the real benefits and see it as merely losing something to a foreigner. I know a few Thais in the UK who own property and none are subjected to the 49% rule and why should they be ... their money is as good as anyone else's and it adds funds to the treasury.

yes they do take over look at london you go back to where you come from and your a stranger in your own town, make foreigners rent, they should be happy just to live there/here...you cant take it with you...i never understood the craze of owning your own property..listening to people talking in the pubs saying my house is worth blah..blah blah...yeah mate only on paper and not in your account oh to have a 25 year mortgage coffee1.gif

  3. Again, that overriding "don't you know who I am, how dare you, we had the people's mandate to do what the hell we wanted to, I don't need to tell you anything" attitude rears it's very ugly little head.

yeah, unfortunately for them they didn't have article 44 to support their actions

your right they had thaksin on there side...coffee1.gif

  4. This is rich. The anti-democratic yellow-shirt monk whose thugs forcibly shutdown Chaeng Wattana and attempted to kidnap journalist Nick Nostitz among other crimes is now a leader of reform? And the clueless WP reporter takes that at face value? Rather than, say, seeing a purge of red-shirt monks under the name of getting rid of corruption?

what is a yellow shirt, you really don't get it do you

    did he ever........coffee1.gif

  5. May both of them Rest in Peace.

And may be the husband will be judged by his creator when he meets him.

Now is all a sad history, what's the point of criticizing him or others?

He also got a family, left behind.

costas the country is in better shape without a shit like this still stealing oxygen..as for being judged by his creator thats his parents yes..

  6. Pot meet kettle. Which country doesn't have skeletons in its closet? None of us was alive to do those things.

Germany accusing another country of genocide, and wanting to stir the pot. How quaint.

Please place the statement in context. Also note that for the first time, a German high official has acknowledged the role that Germany played in the Armenian genocide. Germany for a long time didn't want to address the issue.

I would argue that the Germans aged 50 and under who have taken on their past genocidal history allowed one of the remaining German taboos to be dealt with. The Germany of today is essentially a different country than 50 years ago, and even 25 years ago. Although the absorption of the backward east disrupted social progress for awhile, Germany has attained the higher moral ground now when it comes to human rights issues because of its willingness to critically examine its past. It was a difficult exercise, but getting rid of those skeletons has made Germany stronger. Look at the change in attitudes even a recent generation has made: Previously the prosecutors didn't want to go after WWII junior concentration camp guards. Well, now, the younger generation has spoken and they said get them, and we now have the accountant of Auschwitz finally facing justice. I honestly believe that Germany is returning to its rightful role that it occupied in the late 1800's as a force of enlightenment and a land of integrity.

Yes, I absolutely second all that. Well said!

Incidentally, one reason why the worst of the Nazi criminals were not prosecuted ruthlessly after the war was the apparant need to hold back Russian influence.

Without any sense of irony, Germany is one of the most civilised and peaceful societies I know

it took them long enough though..after 2 attempts at world domination..but they have the consolation of ruling europe now ..albeit financially..

  7. This will REALLY motivate cabbies to deal with alien customers if they are fined for something they don't understand. Thainess at its best; I wanted to flag down a car and he passed with open window "no farang"! Must have been among those fined lately I guess....

"Thainess at its best".........................stupid comment. This is to do with arrogant taxi drivers picking the best customers as far as they are concerned and giving the rest a snub.

That's all. If you are basing the Thai population on the attitude of taxi drivers it does not say much for you.

WRONG it says much about this country ...... you must be house bound not to know that mikey lad..

  8. "There has been no impact on trade yet. But all our customers have sent us very worrying signals that if [the problem] is not solved, they will turn to buying [seafood] from other countries," he said.

And there lies one of the biggest issues. If the EU does in fact implement and enforce a ban then retailers will look elsewhere and IF and WHEN the ban is lifted it's unlikely the retailers will bother switching back if the price / quality is comparable.

A ban could well wipe out the Thai fishing industry or damage it to a point where it will never truly recover.

the fishing fleets around the planet need banning for at least a yer to replenish the dire stocks .worldwide mate..and maybe lots more fish farms..not great but most people wouldnt have a clue where its from..

  9. Death penalty for corruption is not a good idea for at least a couple of reasons.

Corruption is hard to prove which is why so many jurisdiction have special legislation to address to problem. If even the potential for a death penalty is imposed the burden of proof edges that little bit higher - but that could result in a lot less convictions

    .

Thailand is already under international pressure in relation to having the death penalty - adding more offences to the list where it could be used would cause the international community to think that Thailand was moving towards - not away from the death penalty. This would also cause the international community to look closer at the other "issues of concern".

the international community puts no pressure on the usa about this subject when was the last time thailand executed someone 4-5 years ago perhaps ..while the us..mmmmmmmm...anyway it might be an extreme want by this guy.but after eons of years and nothing ever happening something should .....thailand has laws for everything of which none is imposed..why change the habit of a lifetime hahahahahaha

  10. give scotland independence would save us billions..and wales too.labour/tory/libs have ruled over us for 170 years..its time the old boys club was dismantled utter scum ruining this once great island..remember its self interest from all of them couldnt give a toss about any of us and dont kid yourself thinking they do..

  11. Will this law affect the way the Temples collect their donations?

<Snip> the following actions constitute begging:

    - asking for assets of others with words, texts, or any other gesture, without compensating the giver with any form of work or assets. (The clause excludes asking for money from family members and lawful charity fundraising)

    - committing any gesture that compels others to donate assets out of pity, without compensating the giver with any form of work or assets.

    <Snip>

The monks do say a prayer for you.

dont forget aretha franklin..she said a little prayer for YOU......taxi for winstonc

  12. The EU will do nothing, Thailand will say that it has implemented policies to counter bad fishing practice and all will be well.

Not so sure your analysis is correct. The EU can be quite strict.

you mean quite strict in the fact that they have after years of being a shit entity finally said dont throw any fish caught back into the sea in europe..the eu needs to start looking at its own doorstep first mate with 500 million menbers ..utter disgrace of an organisation if im allowed to say..sorry for the off topic rant..
