  1. Likely outcome of this appalling situation :

    Further downgrade by Moody's.

Continued fudging and distortion by the Government.

Losses of huge magnitude, but denied by Government.

No true details released by Government.

No one ever held to account.

Announcement of new " all singing " scheme.

The stunning thing seems to be that most Thais are not interested.

  2. I understand that Triumph Bonneville T100 m/c's are manufactured in Thailand. The current list price appears to be a staggering 580,000 B whereas the same machine

manufactured in the UK has a list price of 7,000 GBP ( at the exchange rate of, say 50 B to the Pound, this would be 350,000 B ) !!!

Considering that Thai employment and manufacturing costs, etc are a fraction of those in the UK, it would seem that there is a massive rip-off going on.

    Can anyone explain this, please.

I have been living in Thailand for a number of years and I have also seen that the Thai prices of consumer electronic items and cameras are about the same or more expensive than the UK................ and on top of that if you buy a computer here it is more than likely that the software will be pirated, or the genuine programmes are charged extra.

Clearly there is a huge racket going on and I guess all retailers are controlled by Cartels taking a very fat percentage.

    Sent from my i-mobile i-STYLE Q6

The Triumph is manufactured under BOI rules (Board of Investment) one of those is that the factory is in Thailand but the products are for export to Europe and the UK etc. Hence the bikes are taxed as imports at a MUCH higher tax rate.

Thanks for this.........It sheds some light on the price differential, but Triumph UK say that the Thai factory is for supplying the Asean market. The UK factory for supply to Europe.

Triumph have four factories here giving employment to a large number of people......... in return the BOI impose crippling taxes on their products, as though they were imported ! Perhaps it would be a good idea if manufacturers here gave a breakdown of their prices so that the tax element can be clearly seen.

One wonders if the same policy is applied to all foreign manufacturers............such as Toyota, Honda, etc.,etc. My guess is that the policy is applied selectively, otherwise Thais could never afford a Honda Dream.

  4. This is a slightly different twist to this thread, I'm afraid......... My UK licence expires later this year and I have discovered that a UK citizen cannot renue the licence if he/she lives abroad. So I will no longer have a UK licence. I also understand that an IDP issued in the UK is not valid for use in the UK !

So........ it seems I need to get an IDP issued here in Thailand whilst my UK licence is still valid. I am applying for a Thai drivers licence during the next few days and hope that I can also get the IDP...... which I trust will be valid in the UK. One problem seems to be that IDP's are valid for only 12 months.

Has anyone had experience of this sort, please ?

While driving in the UK you don't need the IDP, your Thai license if sufficient.

Thanks for that " Titanium Member " . Makes things easier.

  6. Crossy............. not sure that you got my latest, I had a non-sense message from Thaivisa.

    Here is a copy :

Thanks again. At the risk of overdoing your patience............ I have looked at Safe-t-Cut web site which is poor. They show a confusion of slightly different models of stand alone RCBO's. I hope to buy one tomorrow.

I guess that 32 amp would be ok. Do you have an opinion on which model, please ?
    regards
  7. Many thanks to all........... brilliant !

So do I take it that the term " radial " refers to cables simply radiating from the CU to supply the fittings, rather than using a ring which returns to the CU ?

  8. Crossy or any informed member.............

.I am sorry that this is off topic but please can i ask you or someone what is meant by radial wiring. Basically I am trying to understand how the wiring is run from the consumer unit to individual lights and power points. Are the various elements connected in parallel and, if so, how many lights and/or power points can connected to one circuit ? I understand, of course, that there need to be different circuits for lighting and power.

I would much appreciate any comments.
