  1. It would be a good start by changing from a cash society and be able to pay by card or online payments for most things. Accountability and less tea money. There would be more money to increase the minimum wage instead of a % of most payments hitting the wrong pockets before it enters govt accounts. More accountability from the top in the beginning would assist in the beginning of a real democratic government. Has to star somewhere.

  2. The thai govt will never improve education in the rural areas as 1, it costs money. 2, who would cut the rice? 3, loa cow company would go broke, 4, farangs support many families here, so no need.

  3. It looks like the Thai partner already realizes that the OP's home is not a prison.

"He has recently opened a new business quite far from our house so he decided to have a room to sleep over near his work. I know him very well after all these years and knew something was wrong. He became evasive..."

if any of my partners cheated on me, as 1 did, it's over. Once a cheater, always a cheater. I can't forget or forgive no matter the excuses give, love or not. Just my personal opinion. Good luck in your future. :)

  4. I built a home for my mother in law and the wife's brothers and sisters still asked MIL to borrow, lol, some of the value of the house because I didn't give cash. 5 years on and they are still asking for cash. It's not a tradition for the mother in law, it's a tradition for the lazy brothers and sisters that spend their money on Kia cow, gambling and pretending to be hiso because their is a farang in the family. They get absolutely zip now but MIL gets sent get allowance on a monthly basis so no one else can bleed her dry with no intensional if repaying. Resentment from the brothers and sisters is very high as MIL gifted all the farm and the house and put it in her name. So when the day comes, the only person to get anything is the only person that respects what wifey has done for her.

Sin sot, no way, respect and assist, totally.

  5. most of you already know Isann is the poorest part of Thailand. But which province in Isaan is actually the poorest? I'm currently located in Kalasin, which is aprox 1hr 30min bus trip from Khon Kan and many have told me it's the 2nd poorest province. Strangely enough I couldn't find anything on Google regarding this matter.

    this year

Isaan will be even poorer than usual. With the rice cutters only working for 500baht a day, Lao cow and a fussy menu or they refuse to work if they don't get it. In our Provence, close to Nong Han, the harvesters are working flat out and the cutters are so comfy in their hammocks as no one will pay and bend over and take their demands. I am sure the crime there will be massive in a few months as the neighbors have already stopped repayments on their scooters and borrowing from any collateral they have, again with no way of repaying the loans. Lock up or the wandering tribesman will be borrowing the fish from your ponds and anything else your not using that can be lifted. Be warned.

rat from the farms are vegetarian, what do they feed chickens and pigs in your home country? Hormones , growth enhancer sand many other chemicals. Rat is pure and healthy as long as they come from the rice or cane farms. Taste good but the name rat put westerners off.

  8. So at first look it seems Mukdahan is the winner.. however per capita Amnat Charoen clinches it !

  9. @ozybear,

    Are you raising barramundi fish?

Seriously looking into it as I will be digging a few more dams and one huge dam for this once the land has dried out completely to get the excavation work done ready for next years wet season. Plenty if time to study as it will be for anglers as well as food production.

Any hints on freshwater barra farming? Food, water parameters and so forth?

I will be visiting asiatropics in the next few days, protests permitting. Lol.

Barra do not take readily to pellet food ,as they are an ambush hunter you really need another mixed sex variety in the pond to provide prey/food.

Tilapia are not a good option as they will soon breed quicker than the barra can consume them.

totally understand, but as a Queenslander that has local barra farms and asking them questions recently, as long as they are trained as fry to eat appropriate pellets it should be fine. Don't put other fry in for a treat as they go off pellets as I have learnt in the past with aquarium barra. They will eat pellets from the beginning , so keep them that way.

Tilapia will be in the shallow ponds and the barra in the deeper ponds.

  10. Ps, we get the dams dug for free as we only use a small portion if the soil then give the rest to the excavation company to resell for fill. We have 25ish rai and do this each year as the money comes in from the fish sales to restock and pay the bills for the following year until we have enough. 5 years to go.

  12. I went to Rex Hotel in Bangkok, whilst I was outside having a smoke, the wife went in and booked and payed for our room. I then entered and we had to pay an extra 400 baht a night because I was a westerner, they explained, I

Earned more than a thai so I have to pay more and this was from the owner, so the answer is yes.

  13. 2 Bath is too much but...

If you just want to do a test run not looking at the ultimate point of profit go for it.

Last year I did a test run and ordered 500 at 2 Bath, got 666 in the bags but only 180 survived the first week Posted Image

So never again the small distributor in Kut Chap.

    Bye

    Derk

Pretty much the same here but bin bought from the back of the delivery truck that visits the village. 2000 and ended up with around 300.

  14. In nong Han area, it's 700 baht per rai. We offered locals 400 b per day to cut and no one would do it. Had to get brothers up from Bangkok to cut it. The harvester was 3 weeks away 4 weeks ago and still no site if them as we only have 25 rai and they are doing quite larger farms. The locals are still sitting on their ass doing nothing. Go figure.

  15. Thanks for the info, will look into it more on my return as I'm heading back in. 10 days and the dams didn't get dug out in time. Just found a barra breeder and I'm also looking into that, more for fun, but thanks again.

  16. Dropped into udon today with no luck, none until early next year. It will give me time to dig a few more ponds.

Does 2 baht sound right for cat fish fingerlings?
