Ruen Khao Poon has been closed for 2 years now.
Was one of my favourite places in town, sad the day it closed.
Or have they re-opened elsewhere ?
As they were along from the Buffalo Bar when I used to eat there, not across from Xzyte.

"Rua Khao Poon" on third road, opposite former X-zite; the portions are small (for THB 50) so order two. Both chicken or pork available; perfect - take it from the horse's mouth as an old Chiang Mai Khao Soy lover.
Enjoy!Ruen Khao Poon has been closed for 2 years now.

Another place is here.
IMO not as good as the place mentioned above, but still okay.
I know they used to sell Khao Soy, but I thought it changed hands last year and the menu changed ?

This query comes up year on year, and as others open and close, the longstanding Northern Thai place on Third Road remains the place to go.

I found a decent selection in Mr. DIY Royal Garden.

New Pho place opening up on Thappraya ?

Less of the "we", yours seems to have gone missing, if you ever had one.
Considering this a thread of Restaurant Reviews in Pattaya, WE still await your first one.

Nope. It's another "if you want to eat good food in Thailand, ask a Thai where to eat" post.
As I explained, we spotted a restaurant at the side of the road, stopped and grabbed a bite to eat. Why would I remember the name of the town or restaurant? Don't know the name of the dish as it was the only thing that they served, no need to ask. These restaurants are everywhere, commonly referred to as tin cup restaurants.
The point of my post was that these restaurants serve the best food and they don't have a menu (which was the reason I replied to the post.) Sorry I didn't shock you.
If you want great Chinese food, go and live in China.
Damn, you are correct .... I missed out the inevitable RTP mention LOL

Absolutely the best food in Thailand is to be found in Thai "tin cup" restaurant's. No menu, only one dish on offer.
Stopped at one for lunch, in a small town, en route to Koh Chang, with a friend over on holiday from the UK. He insisted that he didn't like Thai food but agreed to try it. Stewed pork with rice, 40 baht.
The restaurant was heaving, all Thais (always a good sign). All trestle tables and we joined 4 RTP guys, having their lunch. We all cleared our plates and my friend had a second plate. When paying the bill he asked me what kind of pork it was. I pointed out to him that they only served meat from pigs heads. He baulked at that but had to admit that it was the best food he'd eaten in Thailand.
Another 'if its cheap, it must be good' post.
Name of the Restaurant ? .... no idea it was in Thai.
Name of the Dish ? .... no idea its Thai Food.
Add a detail that might shock.

They used to be full of Russians when they were still visiting Pattaya. I think they were located near T21 on 2nd road that time, was a few years back.
No, they originally opened next door to Alcazar.

No, it's because they have introduced a reasonably priced combination menu and got rid of the large, unpleasant girl that used to work there.
Thanks for that.

Have any of you guys been to Schnitzel Hans........They were located in Drinking Street for many years until high rents forced them to move a few years back...
Yes, many years ago.
Good to see they are still cooking.
Too far away for me.

Walked around Naklua last night and was surprised how busy it was.
Would be much better if you had said that you walked around Naklua Road or even Wong Amart.
Naklua itself (which has some great restaurants) is quite some distance away.

Wow very surprised by that, shows how often I go out eating to not even know that. A guy from Belgium ran it and it appeared he was doing okay, though never very busy the few times we've been there the service and food was great but on average 2000 baht/person easily.
There was a mention of health problems, but the main rant on why he was closing was the lack of quality tourists.

Mata Hari and Bruno serve great steaks, but they are both located at Thappraya road, not cheap but quality is never cheap, wondering if there's something comparable on the dark side.
Mata Hari has been closed for several years.

While on the topic of Thappraya, I see the longstanding PIC Kitchen on Soi 4 is moving to Thappraya "late 2019" in the same grounds as the Sugar Hut.
Must make a sentimental visit to Soi 4 while still open.

Since the change to a military government, 4 and a half years ago, it seems the army have taken more of an interest in local problems.
Don't think we are too far from the return of our local problems.
