There is an extreme shortage of qualified tour guides, due to the applying restrictions.
Reasonable language skills in different European languages + others not even taken in account.
Why not opening this profession to foreigners, who are willing to study for this in useful languages ?

Do THB 2 k make a difference, if one is planning his trip to Thailand ? No, I don't think so.
They ( TAT ) and many, many others just screwed up, last nail in the coffin have been new National Park regulations.
Oversupply at every corner and tourism business sucks almost allover the place, thanks to a flood of Chinese during the last 4 years.

Buy it for 12 k. Fixing is relatively cheap, if needed.

The bike riders are very much right, no reason why not to use these roads with a bike ( maybe not a 100 / 125 cc )
Same for highways or tunnels on Phuket.

Phuket should rather start with taking the tuk tuks off the roads. This definitely would be a huge step ahead.

Chinese tourists don't buy fakes in Thailand. as they have them at every corner in their home country.

This is all about the cheap snorkeling trips for the Chinese, killing the reefs. Thousands have been taken out every day to the islands. But not only.
Every morning the death trap caravan from Phuket to Tab Lamu was clogging the road and they were racing like maniacs, same thing back in the afternoon.
Pollution, waste, dirt allover the harbor. Just hope the Government won't row back in this case and keeps the still even too high quota for the speed boats

Didn't read all 6 pages of comments, too much for me.
Mine tried the same. I explained to her that this won't happen and she understood an accepted. Still sometimes some very odd demands for little money, like 1000 Baht for the beauty parlor, though she has millions of her money in the bank. If it makes her happy, so what. But absolutely no big figures at all, though.
