The toaster option will only work for sliced bread, right?
Do you think / know if I put a whole frozen bread in the oven at low heat ( or maybe even high heat? ), that it will preserve the crispiness, but at the same time keep the inside soft?

I was at Savannakhet yesterday morning. I was worried because I only had a $100 note ( not the exact $30 ). I didn't know where I could change $100 to small notes. The $100 note was brand new. Only a "dent" from folding it in half. Just in case I obviously had the 1500 THB with me.
I handed them the $100 for my $30 Visa on Arrival fee. He took it, got out his register and gave me exact change....2x20 and 3x10. All those bills I received were in perfect shape as well.
I understand that it is very frustrating for you, but I wouldn't call it a scam...more so "unreasonable" on their end in regards to your case.

Interesting topic.
My dad swears that when you freeze it after freshly baking it ( letting it cool off first though ) and thaw it, it will taste just like when it was frozen. I tried it and disagree...it does taste good but the the crispy outside is not there anymore.
I will give it a try with the teatowel and also try the vacuum sealing.

The person I deal with is not local ( Bangkok ) and doesn't speak English, BUT seems to be very reliable ( follow up calls on my monthly filing, reminding me what I have to do and when etc. ). I E-Mail her whatever info she asks from me and a few days later get an EMS letter with papers to sign and hand in at the revenue department.
When I first started the business, I was looking for a local and preferably english speaking accountant, with no luck. A relative recommended the lady in bkk and so far she has been great.
Edit: If interested in her, let me know and I will PM you her phonenumber and E-Mail address.

Warin - Ubon. Same same but different
But I must agree with Dilligad and Marty. TSF is a great and huge furniture store that sell modern and / or good quality products. Their setup is very similar to that of IKEA.
They will not have hardware like tools, cement, granit, toilets, stoves / microwaves, TV's etc
What they do have: Pictures, Lamps, Decoration, Wallpaper, Tables/Chairs, Office desks/chairs/furniture, bedroom set, mattresses, sofas, Recliners, dining tables/sets, children bedrooms.
I also heard they have a small coffeeshop with some great tasting coffee
For more hardware specific things, I would visit Ubon Watsadu, which is also fairly near TSF Furniture. It is located near the Nakonchai Air Bus station and I think still considered Warin.
I think if you visit these two places, you will be able to fully furnish your house the way you like it.

I'm not sure if Makro thinks that way in regards to re-ordering. I've run into a couple of instances where I would buy certain products during my weekly shopping spree only to find the following week its not there anymore. So I figure they will have it the week after...then I am sure they will have it by the 3rd week out of stock. Then I give up and go to the customer service desk and ask when they will receive the product again. The answer I got twice already was that the product doesnt sell, so they don't reorder. Eventhough I have been buying it the past months
.
Anyways, what I am saying is, that eventhough some demand is there, it does not guarantee that Makro will reorder.
I will try the BeerLao Dark and possibly add it on our Beerlist and then talk to the customer service staff and see if I can help convince them to order it on a regular basis.

The question wasn't asked, but I thought I would throw in some "new" information regarding savannakhet.
From reading the visa section here on TV, they do same day visa processing. Go to the Thai consulate in the morning and pick up your visa after 3pm. However, not sure if this applies to every visa or only certain ones.
I will be heading there next week and plan on doing it that way.

You
probablycame in contact with the "airport taxi mafia". Most airports in Thailand, from what I heard, except Bangkok and currently Ubon do not allow metered Taxis on their premisses. That way they try to force you to use their service at an unbelievable rate. Usually the metered Taxis are waiting outside the airport by the entrance...you would have to walk there. -
I just read the article you mentioned. My best guess is that they will have Thai Smile at Don Mueang and Thai Airways at Suvarnabhumi. I went on the Thai airways website and searched for a random flight in November and found flights from Suvarnabhumi to Ubon. However, with Thai Smile I was also only able to find a flight from Suvarnabhumi to Ubon.
Either it is not confirmed yet or they didn't update the website yet ( which I would doubt ).

Hello Chris,
I just just renewed my 1 year license to a 5 year license about a month ago here in Ubon Ratchathani. I got my 1 year license in Surin and heard multiple versions that I have to get my 5 year license from Surin and others said I can get it in Ubon. Yes, you can renew it in Ubon.
Documents I needed:
- Passport copy ( main page, visa page, last entry stamp, departure card )
- Your current Thai Drivers License
- Resident Certificate ( have to get that at your lcoal immigration ). If you have a valid Work Permit, a copy of that will be a sufficient replacement for the resident certificate
- Doctors Certificate ( You can get that the day you head to the DMV to renew you license. On that main road by the DMV is a small shop that "sells" the Doctors Certificate for 50 Baht...or 80...I don't remember. It doesn't even look like a doctors office or anything like that ( all they need is your name...and birth date I think. No blood drawing, no blood pressure etc. ) . Its best to have a Thai speaker / reader with you, to point you to the correct building...its next to 7/11 ).
I think that was it. If they want other copies etc. they have a copy shop downstairs that can copy whatever other documents the DMV want from you.
Edit: I applied for my renewal 3 weeks before my 1 year expired. They gave me my old DL back and handed me the new one and told me to keep the old one until the new one kicks in. The issue date they printed on my new DL was when my old one expired ( 3 weeks into the future

The OP asked about Chinese restaurants. Has anyone ever been to Hongfah? I must have driven past it a few hundred times but have never dropped in.
https://plus.google.com/117367316607802546014/about?hl=en&gl=au
I went there once last month. I pass by there almost daily. They also claim international food on one of there signs.
Well, what can I say MeMock? You should drive by there a few hundred more times. It is an only chinese restaurant. The whole restaurant has a strange vibe to it and the food is not good at all.

Well John, Peppers may very well have the best breakfast anywhere, but in my experience it has never been opened at breakfast time. Not once. I have tried popping in at 6 am, 6:30 am, 7 am and even as really late as 7:30 am. Never once has Pepppers been open for breakfast. As far as I am concerned Peppers is a no-go for breakfast for us workers. So are there any Ubon western stlye breakfast places open at 6 am? Last time I was in Ubon that early no one not even thai places were open. this is not to complain, I really want to know so I have someplace to ride to before traffic get scary.
Interesting this topic came up. Just last week we were discussing about opening Peppers an hour earlier ( 7am ). Looks like it will be something we will implement in about 2-3 months. ( Haha, I hope my staff don't follow this thread...I want to break the news to them slowly and tactfully :) ).
Back on topic as far as other Western food besides the usual suspects:
In no particular order
- The Outside Inn: Delicious Tex-Mex and American Food. I haven't tried their Thai food, but have heard good things about it. "Near" Sapphasit Hospital. You'll be best off to google it ;).
- Spago: As Italian as it can get. Also worth a try. Inside the ring road of the intersection 231 and 23, across of Homemart.
- Sizzlers: Located in Central Plaza. IMHO: food portion and taste/quality does not match the price. I think it is the brand name that gets people to go there and/or go back
- Sincere: I haven't been here yet, but plan on visiting soon. I heard they serve French food. Also near the Sapphasit hospital, next to the police station
- Wrong Way: It's a bar, but they do serve some western food. I haven't eaten here yet, so I can not comment on the food. It's on Phadaeng rd across of Phadaeng Mansion.
- N-Joy Bar: Also a bar that serves some western food. But I also can not comment on their food.
- Jeffers: I am not quite sure what their business model / background is. They are a small? franchise. I ate there once and checked it off as "a lesson learned" :). It seems to be owned/operated by Thais trying to do western food. They are located inside the Sunee mall.
But like MeMock said, check out "trip advisor". The best restaurants are listed there :)

If you know your way around on Route 24, then its a piece of cake. But like SantiSuk said, it is easy to get lost in Warin. Especially since a small part of Route 24 in Warin turns into a 1 way street and you have to take a small detour to get back on to route 24.
But, if you can handle that part, the remaining part is easy.
Going north on Route 24 exiting Warin, you will go over a fairly large bridge. Keep going straight. On the right hand side you will pass a shell gas station. Then after about 2km you will see an intersection with a Esso gas station on the right. Pass that intersection. The NEXT intersection is your right turn on to Uppalisan Rd. about 100m into that street, you will see on the left "airforce 21" which you will pass. Keep going and there will be a white brick wall ( mostly with paintings of the King ) on your left that will basically lead you to the airport. Follow that wall. The 3rd traffic light you have to turn left which will lead you straight into the airport.
Good luck and safe travels

It was fun for my first fantasy game. Glad I could defend my 4th position

Next time will be a bit better.

To Aforek...
Goal keepers enjoy special privilege inside the penalty box. They are allowed to use their hands. They also have special "protection" inside the goal box (the rectangle around the goal inside the penalty box) where they cannot be obstructed / blocked by opposing players.
The knee thing looks a bit rough (it's primarily a self-protection measure) but if the intent is clearly to go for the ball (and getting there first!) there is no foul. If the goalie goes for the man then it's clearly a foul (including red / yellow cards and penalty).
That is basically what I was about to write as well.
I just looked at the video several times. normal speed and slo mo. I clearly went for the ball, which he accomplished AND got there first. I do not think Neuers leg/knee lifting was an intend to injure Higuain, but more to protect himself. If he didnt lift his leg, his whole upper body would have been exposed without any protection...at the speed and force the collision happened, with an exposed uppbody, Neuer would of most certainly suffered some sort of injury....broken rib(s) perhaps?
Neuer aimed for the ball, got there first and protected himself.
Higuain was trying to get to the ball first, didn't succeed and then collided with Neuer.
Why should a penalty/freekick been awarded? Or even a card given to Neuer?

I would say its Germanys turn again to win. Very simple reason. We win the world cup every 20 years
1954, 1974, 1990 ( 4 years early ) and now to get back on track: 2014
.
Just thought to bring this thread back up

Up until this morning it said...drumroll please:
3am.
-
Scarf, I believe you have the kickoff time wrong for this game. From what I researched it starts at 2am.
-
Can't wait
I don't think the German defense will be high up in the pitch as when they played Algeria...so Manuel Neuer will probably not be needed as a sweeper
-
Algeria had early chances to really rattle the Germans but could not take them. Once Germany settled the ship in the 2nd half you felt a German win was inevitable. Algeria took them to extra time and really made them work for it. Neure had to make several dashes outside the area to clear as Algeria exposed the pedestrian German central defence repeatedly.
Welcome to the future of soccer. It looked like the German central defenders were sleeping, but if you watch closely, they were always high up in the pitch...higher up than a usual central defender. Mainly to assist opening the game. This is only possible with Neuer as a goalie. Germany has many many other great and talented goalkeepers, but the coach chose Neuer for his playing style...an active goalkeeper. You'll see more of these "exposed" defenses...especially when other teams catch on to it or use it as another tactical option.
If you really recap the game, how many CLEAR chances did Algeria have? And with clear chances I don't mean " if Neuer wouldnt have stood where he was" or "the defender made a last second block"....not too many. Maybe 3 at most ( including the 1 they scored ).

Ok, I rearranged a few things. Thanks for the hint that now 6 players from a country can be picked. For some reason I thought I read 4 players and picked only 4. But with your note, I changed my lineup again. Let's see if I can move up a bit in the world ranking

Well, that makes me feel a bit better for being only average in this group. Looks like there are a few knowledgeable guys in the group
Marriage Visa without the 400,000 baht
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Posted
Another option and VERY easy ( besides the travel hassle ) is suvannakhet, Laos Thai Consulate. They do NOT require financial proof ( 400k or 40k a month ) and no need to take pictures of u and wife together in the house and outside etc.
You arrive there in the morning ( before 11am ) and drop off:
- Application with two pictures
- copy of your passport
- copy of wife's id, signed by her
- copy of wife's house book, also signed by her
- copy of marriage certificate ( bring original in case they ask to see it )
Come back at 2:30pm and pick up your multiple - O visa.
I just did this 3 days ago.
