  1. That's a wonderful idea, and is already in place in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. I do not know where you do live, but meditation centers and retreats are full of farangs interested in Buddhism, and the same for most farangs local groups and expats groups online.

  2. Before moving here for good in 2010, I visited BK for 2 weeks, and I met the manager of a very big and well know international real estate company. My kind of business. He was from the UK. I am from the US.

Talking about training and results, because the company was not doing well in sales, he asks me to meet his sales staff of 20 people, to test them in some way, and give to him my opinion. At the end of 2 sessions, I told him that, if I was hired to do the training, I will have to start firing most of them.

I was not interested in work anyway, but I called the manager a week later.

He already renounced to his position.

If you like challenges, we prepared for a big one.

    Good luck.

  3. Thai Smile Travel Agency on Ravithi Road, 1 block from the channel close to the Ta Pae Gate, Soi 7?

    Owned by a beautiful Thai woman...with a beautiful smile....English speaker...Ask her for a date...Who knows?

  4. Ask your doctor or any non traditional doctor about oxygen therapy done with hyperbolic chambers. This kind of treatment, for any internal infection or tumors, is getting popular in some countries with fantastic results. I do not know if available in Thailand.

In any case, this is very beneficial to the human body, even on an apparently healthy ones. You can also find some info online.

    Take care. Get well.

  5. Like my wife, 20 years ago...... Luckily I met her when she was more "rounded".... and even more sexy.

Yes...Miss World 2014....now appearing in many TV commercials. Very beautiful woman.

Was elected the most beautiful in the world and interesting enough, she really represent Thai beauty in every way, skin color and tone, perfect long legs, long silky hair, black long eyes, small nose, defined face, skinny but shaped body, small boobies,....Its is easy to find many like her walking around Thailand streets.

She is my type if woman, but you do need to appreciate Asian women to like it or not. Even a Miss World may be ugly if you do not like the type, but this kind of body just get better with age, a lot better

  6. Thailand certainly did not feature in the Top 10 list I read earlier this week.....Brazil was ranked #1 with Columbia,Argentina,Ukraine and South Korea also being included the top 10.

It is very well known that Argentina have the most beautiful people in the world...men and women...but..because they know that...also is the land of the most arrogant people in the world. If you are bad looking or older...no chance, millionaires may do.

Argentinian men are very lucky.....Brazil is just a short ride away.

  7. You are very young and you will be new in Thailand. If you like her. just have a good time until you learn about the culture and also meet other people. At your age will be easy to learn the language, that you will need anyway to find a job and become a local, and not a tourist. You will meet also Thai young guys that will give you their opinions and advice. There are a lot of very nice girls in Thailand, and you will meet them, at work or school. Enjoy your time of a single man in Thailand and not hurry in taking decisions that may change your life. She may get pregnant even if that is not your intention. Looks also that you didn't meet her family and friends. Are you ready to deal with parenthood, without an independent life here?.

Many questions for you to think about, with the right head. Got it?

  8. Very funny. I think we were at the same wedding last week. In Doi Saket Resort? Welcome to the group.

You are right. Was beautiful setting, and with a lot on interesting and classy people around. I think we spoke with the same gals. Were too many beauties to get lost...but......I was with my wife too..... Looks like the new Thai wives are passing the "lead" about the parties. This one was a beauty parade, and looks like will be another party soon in Lamphun.

Send me a message, perhaps we meet there. OK?

  9. For some reason, that it is a mystery for me, bad things happens exactly when we decided to not have insurance.

First time, when I was 20 years old and was using my father's car. He had 3 company cars paying insurance and he decided to stopped and make a fund, because for many years nothing happened with its cars. Just 2 weeks after his decision, I crashed his car very badly.

Second time, 8 years ago in the US, I was 62, paying a heavy self employed health insurance for most than 10 years without any problem, and having a very good health. I decided to canceled. Less than a year later I was diagnosed with malign colon cancer. I had to retire to get into Medicare, but not without many problems and setbacks.

I have health insurance here in Thailand, but I just found out that its not cover much, and after paying more than a trip to the US will cost me. I am thinking in cancel, and I may do it, but it is not an easy decision after my past experiences.

  10. My opinion.

Beauty is a combination of body, mind, and sensuality......Considering this....

On my list I have to place Brazilians in #1

On body beauty...Argentinians and Russians ...but last in its minds.

Venezuelans and Mexicans...when are tall and beautiful..are stunning women.

On minds beauty..French, Italians and Spaniels

Thailand is somewhere in the middle...but..no doubts. Thailand women takes care of their selves very well, and genetically most have amazing skin tone, hair, and legs. Because most are very skinny they look a lot younger in any age. My wife is a very good example, and I know for sure that if I take her with me to any western country, everybody will think that she is my daughter....not only because is 23 years younger.

    Americans? Some are beautiful..but

A French police officer was doing a night round on a park when saw a man having sex with a woman.

The woman looked unresponsive...and the officer approached the scene..

What you are doing???, he shouted loudly. This woman is dead!

Dead? The French man responded. Dead???... I tough she was an American!

  11. Best wishes to the Brit.

I hope has first class insurance and a dash cam. Two things I would never drive here without.

If the deceased family demand some money, I hope they are swiftly told to F Off.

If he did not have a helmet nor insurance that covers death, and pulls across lanes without looking behind, then there is no one else to blame for his and their predicament.

I had an accident with my bicycle on a freeway long ago, and was my fault, but the driver stopped just to pull my bike from under the car, and speed away without a word. I commented the event with a Thai friend. I do not know if it is true, but he told me that in case of a crash with a motorbike or bicycle, even a pedestrian, without witnesses or a dash cam video to probe the contrary, the car driver will be the guilty part, and that may be the reason why some car drivers will leave the scene sometimes.

Comments from Thai and Farangs involved in accidents, makes me avoid any driving here. Only my Thai wife drives, with full insurance, and and I also installed a car cam. Cheaper solutions than deal with police and lawyers, here and in any other country.

  12. Long time ago I assisted to a seminar in the US, and a very well known speaker shows that arguments between people just get more intense, never ends, if people's mind do not get away from the issue. The speaker shows that, if during an argument, a distraction happens, that breaks the circle, ending the discussion. Sometimes creating a better energy to resolve it.

Back home, I try it with my wife, that seems to have the same kind of problem than yours. Just saying or asking anything, in casual way, totally unrelated to the discussion, was enough to end it. Anyway, we got divorced later, but I used in other occasions and with other people and works very well....sometimes even resolving the issue.

Bipolar disorder very often comes with impulsive - compulsive disorder behavior, and can be very negative if the person not focus all that "energy" in something positive and demanding that requires a lot of concentration and dedication. Most inventors and innovators, artist and actors, some very famous people like Steve Jobs and Robin Williams were suffering from bipolar disorder. Are not easy people. Frustration and non satisfaction with life, sometimes with simple things, makes them very aggressive, and demanding with them and other people. In extreme cases, them can be very violent and destructive. Confrontations and discussions never have a god ending with them. Understanding and compassion works better

Unfortunately is not a cure for that condition. Calm surroundings, meditation, gardening, art, and some natural herbal products may help. Thai people with behavior problems get counseling with monks, and some are really good in that.

    Take care.

  13. I love somtam but......without the crab. I do not know exactly the reason, but in Brazil crab is eaten after cooking it alive. Not even frozen. After dying, all dead crabs go to the trash, sometimes in enormous amounts that didn't sell in time in the markets....and it is not cheap.

Locals said that dead crab meat is poisonous.

  14. Not sure how long you plan to stay in Chaing Mai, but since you are coming here on a one way ticket, I assume that you plan on staying long term. If you plan on staying long term in CM you will probably need your own transportation. Hasn't been mentioned yet, but if you do plan on staying here for at least 6 months, it would be a better idea to buy a scooter. I recommend this for a couple of reasons, first it will be safer because there is a high probability that your rental scooter is not properly maintained and it's not worth the risk from a safety standpoint. The second reason is that it will probably be more cost effective to buy (new or used) your own bike. If you are planning to stay long term and you can afford to spend a little more for the first few weeks or a month, it is not a bad idea to find short term accommodation in a central area and take some time getting used to how traffic works here by not riding a scooter for the first few days or even a week. It cannot be overstated; driving a scooter or motorbike in Thailand is VERY dangerous, but there are many small things you can do to mitigate the danger and it will take time to figure out which work best for you.

    Bad advice.

    By my own experience.

A second hand motorbike can be a MELON and something to worry in a pleasure trip, and for sure, a waste of money and time.

Accidents may not happens...but it is a risk, and all that recommendations from you means....STRESS.

Who needs ALL that in a pleasure trip?

Looks like the OP is a young guy.....Before getting a motorbike...will be better for him to find a girlfriend with own transportation and time, and in Chiang Mai, that is very easy to achieve....too easy sometimes.

That is the only "risk" in Chiang Mai that makes sense to take.

  15. I have ridden a Vespa for 20 years in Asia and a scooter for nine in Thailand, plus travel destinations in between.

My advice is this: If you have never ridden a scooter or motorbike, be very careful and take it slow and easy.

The fact is that you can't live here without your own transportation, period (forget what other posters say about taking a songtao, tuk tuk or taxi. If you were here for a few weeks, I'd say okay, but longer? No way.).

The fact is that drivers here can be somewhat free-form, rude (by Western standards -- nothing compared to say, Egyptians) and simply bad drivers.

However, having said that, don't be dissuaded by people here saying how dangerous and life-threatening driving a scooter is. These are similar comments to those made, for example, by people visiting the wet markets and saying, "Oh my God! The meats are laying out without refrigeration! And the flies! This stuff is not fit for human consumption. Look at the cooked foods sitting there in the heat all day! OMG!"

The truth is that if you drive moderately, keep your wits about you, gain experience through practice, keep with the flow of traffic (don't go too slow) and relax, you will have no problem.

Obviously, you need to have all your paperwork/licence/registration in order and always wear a lid. ...and don't drink before you drive.

Biking is great fun and opens your horizons. Do it!

With close to 30 years experience driving a motorbike in Asia, I may believe that you know what you are doing...but our friend NEVER did, and I meet Thai people very often walking with cast legs and bandages..ask any hospital nurse about what they see every day at work..... You and many take that risk and nothing bad happens for years...until.... I hope never will happen with you.

  16. Thanks again for the advice.

So here's what I'm going to do. I just did a little research and apparently it's MUCH MUCH MUCH easier and faster to make sure I'm 100% legal driving a scooter (if I decide to do so) before I get there. That way I'll be covered by World Nomads travel insurance.

    * It's only going to cost me $15 to get an international driver's permit from AAA which I'm going to go in for next week

    * It's only going to cost me $200 to take a motorcycle driving course, which takes place on the weekend (Saturday and Sunday) over the course of 20 hours (8AM to 6PM) in which case, after I complete it, I am able to immediately go and get my motorcycle license and will be able to wave both the written and riding portions of the test.

So - pretty cut and dry!

    - William

Again..for a short and pleasure trip....Do not ride a motorbike in Thailand! With $200 you will have a lot more fun in Chiang Mai than getting a motorcycle license! Believe me!

  17. I was thinking of looking for a place to live around the front of Chiang Mai University (near Lanna Muay Thai gym - not that the reason I'm going is strictly due to martial arts). For everybody telling me not to rent a scooter, could you give me an idea on how much I'd pay just using taxis? I work from home and would of course be going out to eat and needing to get around the area - may go out on the weekends. Do you think like $5, $10, $20 a day? What did you spend when you first got there?

After 2 years spending weekends in Chiang Mai, and totally of more than 4 years in Thailand, I NEVER will use an scooter here. It is very easy for a foreigner to get into an accident for many reasons, and always the results will be against it. Tuk tuk is the faster, cheaper, and safer transportation in most cities, and most rides will be between $3 to $6 max. in Chiang Mai for daily short trips. Long trips can be negotiated, but tuk tuk cannot ride into some freeways.

The best way is to find a driver that speak a little English and is able to pick up you anywhere after a call in advance.

My tuk tuk guy in Chiang Mai do that most of the times I am there. (DELETED). Will wait for you at the airport, take to town for about $3, and most rides in town for the same money for up to 3 people. Late at night may be a problem to find a ride for a decent price, better to be with a Thai friend with car. If you need info about hotels, etc, send me a message.

Welcome to Chiang Mai. It is a great city.
