  1. Get over it, it's been that way since forever and it's not going to change any time soon. If it bothers you so much, don't partake. It's your problem, not theirs.

What a nonsense quote. It is not because things have been in place for 100 years that there should not be progress. There has been slavery for hundred years too and it used to be legal to beat your wife...

With your mentality this country will never move forward as fast as we want. Luckily The General might be able to help.

And to add to the list(even with a WP)

@ Crocodile farm in Samut Prakan

    @ Most temples in Ayutthaya

@ National Park Kao Lak (North of Phuket)

  2. There are three Air Chief Marshals on the Board of Directors.................

Thanks for highlighting that the Junta are not biased.

Well done and Fab4's example here typifies the anti nepotistic and anti cronyism approach by the Junta. It does not matter who you are or who you support the Junta are doing this for the country as a whole.

This is exactly what has been lacking for the past few years and thanks Fab4 for inadvertently highlighting it.

For the past 100 years I guess....

Good that General Prayuth is doing and initiating so many good things.

  3. Hello Mate

my wife just rang him..He done a valve grind, new head gasket and tuning and spacing . He said that is what he charges for a valve grind. He has the new reco auto gearbox there with the gaskets. I will tell you more on Monday . I offered this man a thousand baht tip and he refused to take it . I just dont know as I never have come across a mechanic like this before .

    kevvy

You CAN'T offer an honest man a 1000 baht tip on a 1000 baht job. That's really insulting. I am sure he does not want to feel like the car hooker.,, You meant well but IMHO it is completely inappropriate to throw your money at him...

  4. Got my car fixed yesterday .I forgot to tell members that we went to Toyota and asked them the problem first , they came back with replacement of all the valves and they would have the car for 3 days and a cost of 32000 baht!! Our gas mechanic gave us a number in Angsila chon buri . He said come back in 34 hours and will be fixed . Went went back and he showed me what he fixed , 1 exhaust valve was damaged .The car runs great again ..Cost was ....1000baht!! I tried to give in more but refused to take it . He told me about the wind in my gearbox which I new about and he will put in a change over one for 9000 baht.. His yard was a typical junk yard , had motors everywhere and old cars. He had about 30 cars to fix and a staff of 10.He told my wife in the next yard was all the cars from service centers he fixes for them as they cannot do it .I have never seen a man as honest as this in my life . I would have paid him whatever he ask a long as it was below Toyota price.Oh , Toyota told my wife the had to send the car outside to be fixed . .As you can see the pics , a real junkyard to some , a treasure chest to others.

Hi Kevvy, Could you please let us know who this great mechanic is and how we can know where he exactly is located? Thank you

  5. Mine gets an average of 10.5 liter per 100 km on propane, at 14.76 per liter

13 liter per 100 km on 95, at 44 per liter (the most expensive gas, but it likes it)

    No brainer for me.

Am checking out the new MPFI systems, but at 20K I don't know if I will live long enuf to recoup.

    Propane = THB 155 per 100 km

    95 = THB 572 per 100 km

Difference = THB 417 per 100 km or 4.17 per km.

Investment in LPG conversion is THB. 20,000

So Return on Investment is 20,000 / 4.17 = 4,796 km ! after that you save over THB 400 for every 100 km you drive.

I drive 20.000 a year so savings would be 83,400 THB per year

But of course if you already have propane installed... What is the consumption and price per Liter when using a new MPFI system?

  6. Well I bought a Seat Cordoba with high mileage and LP, don't know how long the LP was in the car prior to my purchase but we owned it almost 2 years and drove it quite a bit in that time. I sold it a little under 2 years ago, the new owner didn't drive it that much as I understand but he has now sold it on due to leaving the country for medical reasons, to my knowledge it's still going strong and it wasn't a young buck when I acquired it. I did give it a proper tuning however which is a large part of the problem there.

Where can you get your car properly tuned/adjusted in bangkok? Who do you recommend?

  7. Perhaps they can do the aiport next where similar problems have existed in the past and fees still remain twice as much as Bangkok. 750 Baht to Kamala is extortionate.

It is of course possible that the reason for high prices FROM the airport is that they are unable to find rides OUT to the airport because of the corruption. We have been told by taxi drivers if they collected us from our hotel in Karon to the airport they could get a bullet in the head. They run out there empty. Most of the drivers waiting at the airport are not part of the corruption.

    THAT'S ALL VERY TRUE!

  8. Set up a NEW Police force:

    * Set up a project with the help of a reputable foreign Police corps.

    * Retrain the Police man and woman and ask them for a new vow according to the new principles

    * Change all uniforms to something more comfortable in hot weather. Also more visible, e.g. G4S style.

    * Automate fines: the whole process should be accountable. Send people a bill for a fine at home.

    * Increase the salary of the Police

    * Give a one time pardon for past corruption

    * Establish a complaint Centre for anonymous complaints regarding corruption and abuse of power.

    * Create a police of police, internal affairs

    * As Police is supposed to give the good example, punish hard in case of misbehaving e.g. drinking while still carrying a gun, corruption, extortion, torture, human trafficking... Send wrongdoers to jail.

    * Open the books. SHOW ACCOUNTABILITY.

Khun Prajut has a fantastic opportunity to become the hero of all living in Thailand. We wish him lots of success and many That and Expatriates are ready to help.

  9. My missus is in BKK right now. Flying to Udon this morning staying at Best Western next to Bumrungrad. She is scared to death but she's like that.

I'd really like some info on traffic and whether the military is visible on the streets ...

Traffic will be very light and she should not be scared. She should go to the airport in time as their might be only few taxis. She is safe in her hotel room and even outside.

  11. My email notification: "Danish woman robbed by Farang man in Chiang Mai"

Why not "Farang woman robbed by European-looking man" ... or "Farang woman robbed by Farang man"?

There are millions of "European-looking" men in Australia, the United States of America and England.

Question: Who is writing these headlines?!

    Answer: Someone who needs education.

Technicall, you are a grumpy sort. Of the worst ones needs to be said.

    Annoying parasite.

  12. The 1 hour refresher course was more a course in social classes then a course in correct driving and rules.

The good driver is a kikou anone family, mother father (driver) and cute kid. White skin and advertisement models. In a fortuner.

The bad guy had long hair, never smiling and drove and old car. He was Claire socially less enviable. The whole video was full of stereotypes about rich and poor. Meanwhile very little instructions. This video should be redone. Same or similar model. Same car. Bad guy in a red shirt and good guy in a green shirt. Or both in a white shirt and clearly indicate what is right and wrong. That would be much more effective. Not this social classes video which is really a shame and thinks those taking the refresher are idiots.

  13. I bought a LED Samsung SMART TV and i think the premium on a normal LED Samsung TV was a waste of money. I would not do it again.

    1) Aside of the higher price you need to buy an DONGLE Separately. This add about Thb. 2500

    2) Surfing on the TV and typing in website addresses is an absolute nightmare. (Try to type a web-address using your remote control)

    3) Some apps (e.g. youTube) do not show full content. You will only be able to see some clips

    4) You can not download anything (movies/music) as it all streams

    5) It is all very slow and complicated

    5) Sometimes the internet connection is not fast enough and then the picture will hang and freeze. Extremely irritating.

All in all this SMART makes me think of the kind of gadgets we had when internet just started, some 20 years ago.

I recommend to buy a normal LED TV and then to connect your computer/laptop though the HDMI cable. To control your laptop from the comfort of your sofa you buy a wireless key board (400 Thb) and a wireless mouse (200 Thb).

With this solution you will save around Thb 5,000 (+ dongle) and will have much better abilities. My SMART is really irritating me and i seldom use it. I use the laptop connected to the TV all the time and it is convenient and fast.

  14. Try getting it straight from the farm and not the store and buy a Toshiba rice cooker with a 4mm forged thick pot. I now cook all the rice at home by request. My cooker also has a timed thing so I can set it at night to start cooking an hour before we get up.

    Cool, you seem quiet rice-organized!
