  1. You cannot access this incident with western or first world standards. lift analysis, operation licenses . These incident will conti ue to happen due to the third world mentality, gross incompetence and corruption within construction industry in this part of the word. It will not change , you can do as many lift analysis as you like , people will still die. Serious legal consequences , fine and imprisonment with proper enforcement is what is required. And as mentioned with the people running the companies in with politicians, that is not likely to happen

surely your not suggesting construction cranes in the West don't collapse ? and for the very same reasons you state for Thailand and SEA,

a quick look at U-tube will prove other wise, my friend, cranes like this collapse all over the world for the same reasons, in review of these western crane collapse's go an see what the "legal" consequences where with respect to fines and imprisonment....thumbsup.gif

If you wish go an compare the number of cranes of this type that collapse in Farangistan versus Thailand and SEA and come back and tell us the numbers..wink.png

Just for the UK alone off the top of my head, and this is in a country which has some of the most rabid Occupational Health and Safety officials on the planet...thumbsup.gif

    Liverpool tower crane collapse

    Canada Square crane collapse

    Batersea power station collapse

Agree with you . I work on constructionsites in Europe , mainly the Netherlands , where I get fined 3500 euro's if I not wear my safety harnas or wear my bloody hardhat .

In belgium I have seen brown envelopes going to safety inspectors .

Crane accidents happen , seen it several times , failling sensors , sudden wing gusts , ice on cranes frozen ground that defrosts ( not for Thailand tho )

Nobody on a constructionsite has a deathwish , accidents just happen if 1000's of metric tons are on the move .

  2. People are commenting like these acts only happen in Thailand.

Sure I'm a male, but I feel safer in BKK than I do in most other western cities I've visited.

I know what you mean, but just because one feels safer does not necessarily mean one IS actually safer. I think this perception has caused more than a few people to come unstuck, whether the city is Bangkok, Buenos Aires or Barcelona.

I hope the victim is recuperating as best as she possibly can. It must have been traumatic to say the least.

The other Bs are far more dangerous. The difference, however, is that they do not claim to be the "Land of Smiles" with all the trust and warmth that this implies.

You think Israel is safe ? The land of milk and honey ?

  3. Guess the snake was just agrassive . If the snake went true a 4 inch pipe It can't eat a human , pythons are agrassive animals .

Where I live there is a big python , scares the shit out of all of us here , it is as thick as the upper leg of and adult ,stayed in our fish pond for a while , couple a times a year it crosses the road . Nobody ever try to go near her or him .

Btw , I always check the toilet before i go sit on it .

Don't kill it... We're the one's who have encroached on their territory.

I for sure won't , I love it , and locals to scared so that's a good thing .We have the knowledge here that we not swim in tha fishpond anymore :)

  4. How's that then? Not the usual 'rush' by the police, only a 'swoop' 3 hours after being 'tipped-off'. I must have missed a news item, because so far as I've read the RTP haven't attended the HRC summons to discusss the alleged 'coercion' of the 2 Burmese guys held in custody. The reason RTP gave for not attending is at best lame, if not contemptible.

Burmese? I didn't read that these guys were Burmese. Perhaps you are confusing it with another incident.

As for 3 hours...yes, that is quite quick actually given the nature of the tip-off. Three hours would give the police an opportunity to verify the accusation, time to discuss possible suspects with the local beat cops, time to gather a large enough force to overwhelm the armed and drugged up suspects, etc..

    Cheers

Clutch, one of my best friend on TV, is again defending his favorite brown boys...clap2.gifcheesy.gif

    Hello Amigo,

Not so much a defense of the Thai police but an attempt to explain to the naive poster what actually occurs following a complaint of a criminal act the world over.

And when it comes to law enforcement agencies the world over, the RTP are most certainly not my favorite; however, I do recognize they do a better job of keeping the streets safe than many posters seem to understand.

Thanks for a good-natured post. Seriously. Thanks.

I come to Thailand since 1992 , never had any problem with RTP . guess depends on where u live . when i was to drunk to drive home on me bike a local copper asked me how i would go back home , I told him that i would walk along the beach , he sayed " no way you walk , " he took his private car to get me home safe . My brother in law was driving me old pick-up truck , boat in tha back sticking out more then half of the length and I sat on the boat so it would not fall out , counterweight , me son and daughter in tha boat to , police stopped us and asked for driverlicense , " expired 7 years , been in washingmachine several times " copper looks at all of us , has a big smile and just sayed " pay pay pay " no probs , they are not all bad .

  6. The dogs should go through a inspected licensed abortare.[sic]

I was with you up until this. Why should any dog, cat, pig cow or any other sentient creature be forced to endure the panic and distress of being forcibly shepherded into a warehouse reeking of fear, sh1t, p1ss and blood to be slaughtered for what? Because you are too lazy/incompetent/unimaginative to be able to make a meal for yourself from anything other than that you and your family brought you up on?

Guess u never been to a home for elderly sick people then , it smells like shit , piss , because there is not enough care for them , I talk about the netherlands , germany and belgium. They lie in there own shit and piss for a night or more .

I am talking about 1 world top class country's .

Back on topic , eat what nature provides does not go up anymore , Since we call us humans we where hunters and gatherers , so humans eat veggy's , frute , meat , anything that is eatible , I agree about it being a factorystyle bussines and animals suffer to much .

  7. 5 years mandatory prison for ANYONE just carrying a knife and 10 years for ANYONE just carrying a gun.

Triple the sentence for using it, and that on top of a sentence for the result of the use.

    No royal pardon.

That will make em think twice.

I always cary a knife , trying to peel off all the insecticides of the frute that I give to my kids .

Machete too , depends where I go . It fels a banana tree in one blow , just in case .

German steel , great quality .

  8. I suspect there would have been a few British government employees who work out of the Embassy sent to Koh Tao the same day these murders happened.

The type of worker who patiently watches from the background and records what's going on without saying a word.

+1 you are spot on. The Germany Embassy too has police officers stationed permanently and follow up on suspicious deaths of German nationals in Thailand. They are also used to bring back Germans that have a warrant open to send them back to Germany to face the music.

Yep and not only German police is here , lotta international police , and they gather there info together .

Mainly to get there homegrown criminals get there ass back to where they belong

  9. yes, how dare any country try to issue warnings about these products to save peoples lives when the manufacturers can make huge profits from peoples miseryw00t.gif , companies will do what ever they can if they think they will lose money, they dont give a sh*t about the people as long as the profits keep rollng in.

Agree that they make shit loads of money , I not agree that everybody that enjoys alcohol is in misery ,

Probably most of us enjoys alcohol without being in " misery " or make a problem to anybody , .

I am a drinking man and it relaxes me , same goes for me mates ..

  10. Tired of reading the word democracy , its a lie whne it starts , give the general time .

Governing a country needs people with dicipline and honour .

The general has both and love for the country and its people .

Time for all of us , Thai and foreignor to put effort in making Thailand a better place .

Maybe its time that we "farangs " and Thais start to respect eachother and learn from eachother .

We are all human beings living in the same country , there is no superiour race .

excuse for my bad english . but good luck to all of us

  11. Raising minimum wages to 300 a day was the killer . big company's and factory's have to and did raise it , lotta things got more expensive because of this .

the big bosses still want there same percentage of the profit .

not need half a brain to know who gets richer and who gets poorer .

Where I live the people in the fields get 200 to 250 a day .

There is few competition in Thailand for the big company's because they created " cartels"

Why is frutejuice " product of Thailand " in europe cheaper then in Thailand ? ( small example )
