  1. I have absolutely no problem with selfies. It's innocent fun to share with others. No one gets harmed, it is safe, not harmful to the health of others, and does not pollute the environment. I can't say that about smokers. Don't get get me started.

    Please do get started!

I like to hear how you spend every waking moment of your life in your condo or only go outside with a mouth cap because traffic pollution is even worse.

    Enlighten me please.

    OP: Sounds like a plan.

    555 spot on!

  3. First of all chin up mate :) you can do this if you really want to.

This thread has resonated with me even tho my situation is a little bit different.

I'm also in my early thirties and I work 12 hour (min) days here. After work I have been religiously drinking 3 big changs a day. Eat then sleep. Worst thing regarding weight gain. I'm overweight by about 20 kg as well.

Make a new year resolution as I am going to make and stick with it. Drink once a week, clean up my diet and train at a gym 3 times a week. I've been here before and beat the vicious cycle (lost 30 kg in the process) but a car accident and complacency put the weight back on.

I've been wanting to start again these past few months as more people are commenting on my weight gain, I run out of breath easily and have started taking medication for high blood pressure (runs in the family).

My excuse is that I'm working too hard, don't have time for a 45 min training session and that the beer is well deserved after a hard day at work.

    ALL EXCUSES.

It's not easy but I swore to myself that 2016 will kick my ass back into action. It will be difficult for the first couple of weeks then it will get better.

There's nothing more rewarding than going out clothes shopping and not have people raise eyebrows when you ask for a 44 inch waist jeans.

Best of luck to you and shame you aren't on samui as it would have been great to hook up, slap each other's faces and wake the hell up.

When I read that 77 year olds are keeping fit, I feel ashamed and so i should be,

All the best to everyone reading this for New Years! God bless!

Different situations indeed. I wish you all the best, hopefully we both can end 2016 on a high note!

  4. There are some really outstanding contributions here but where is the OP?

    Did he go AWOL?

Probably still in bed, because, unlike yourself, he still lives in Thailand.

    Good one ;-)

But, seriously, its almost 8:00 a.m.

Never going to set the world on fire if still asleep at that hour.

:) im awake! There are so many advices mainly positive a few negative but all in all more then enough to get me some ideas. I really appreciate all the input.

Sorry if I don't reply to all of them.

The topic can be closed if people get annoyed by my absence or we can leave it open since I've seen a couple other posters say they like the topic and learn a thing or 2 themselves.

Thanks from me for all the contributions, good and bad. Merry Christmas to all.

  5. It would seem the OP has achieved his objective !

70+ responses to read thus relieving the "boredom"

Im really not trolling if that's what you're implying.

Your choice of word! If the cap fits you are welcome to wear it ! smile.png

I "implied" nothing other than to suggest the "boredom" would be relived by 70+ responses you have available to read !

Yet you love to emphasise 'boredom' twice wich implies something negative in my opinion, for what that's 'worth' to you.

  6. Wow so many replies. Sorry if I didn't answer but just to many. I appreciate it a lot. I'm not sure how to move on but a couple replies about changing the whole attitude got me thinking. Hope I can make a change soon. Ingeneral most of you really tried to give some great advice. Thanks guys.

  7. I fell into the same pattern about 10 years ago, drinking a lot, not doing much, eating the wrong foods. I started jogging, bought a bicycle to ride around the parks near my apt, but then decided to ride it everywhere, cut out the drinking and bad food. Took about 6 months to get into shape. Lost a lot of weight.

Yeah that's kind of the advice I gave myself. Cut the drinking and be more active. Sounds so easy...
    I found a new hobby...spear fishing...burns a lot of calories and time..,..

Yeah 1 thing I didn't mention. Budget. Isn't spear fishing expensive?

  8. "In your thirties" is much too young to be virtually retired, especially to a Country like Thailand.

Nobody can tell you what to do,the fact that you know you are in rut,is a good start, think long and carefully what you want to do with the rest of your life!

I wanted to live in Thailand since my first holiday 15 years ago. I think I'm trapped in the holiday experience.

  9. I find each day starts and is affected by the time I go to bed. Go to bed by a set time. Make it a habit. Change to a healthy breakfast, I love oats, soy milk with banana. Then add a gym visit 90 mins after breakie. You'll love yourself so much by now you will want a healthy lunch. See where I'm going? Build a healthy life. It takes time, but its all about habits. One at a time.

I would love to do this. I just don't know where to start. I hate my routine but it's very easy to maintain.

  10. So lifestyle change then.

I've been thinking about joining badminton. I'm not to bad with this sport. The problem is transferring thinking in to doing.

It's a start but ultimately weight loss is more about reducing what you put into your body. You'll need to do both. Btw, apart from feel better, you'll probably start saving money. I know many people in BKK who go straight down the bars after work, blow most of their salary in those places and aren't in great shape either.

Yes you are right. I don't even want to say how much a day I spend on alcohol.

  11. Wow people here are really picking my brain. I was looking for a more general solution. But ok. Came here because I love Asia, always have loved Asia since I was young, can't explain why really. On and off with the gf, not a really good relationship but she is really pretty so hard to let go, silly I know. Don't know what that has to do with my question though...because everybody here has a beautiful gf.

    Not everyone

I've seen some guys with real oinkers. You know what I mean. They must've been really drunk.

Yes but I want to keep it friendly. Everybody here thinks they have miss universe including me.

  12. Boredom is a danger, you might be eating comfort food or drinking lots to alleviate it, in which case you might want to consider relocating if the problem doesn't go away. Many foreigners develop health problems in Thailand as they find life unsatisfying and make the wrong choices. Its an easy trap to fall into when so many others fall into it too.

Auch. Spot on. But I don't want to leave. That's why I opened this topic. Help! For sure other people experienced the same and came through.

  15. Go somewhere less boring maybe.

Well deserved. Bkk is not boring at all I agree. I just hope there are some people who understand me and give some real advise. Your answer is just an easy score. That's ok though, I do the same to other people.
