  1. I disagree about the sunglasses. I have prescription glasses and sometimes it's just a pain in the ass to bring a second pair of glasses. So yes I will be the one walking in the shopping mall with sunglasses.

Yes I can understand your predicament.

Have you ever considered putting your second pair of glasses in your pocket? Much less painful!

    555 nice!

But to be serious it's just not realistic sometimes depending on the pants. The case for the glasses is big and bulky and just doesn't fit. On second thought...big and bulky, maybe I should put them in my underwear wink.png

Plenty of room left in there, eh?

Are those your sunglasses, or are you so very happy to see me?

Huge upgrade from the peppermint role though!

Isn't that the case for all posters on this forum.

  4. Oh--one more. Just yesterday I was coming back to Udom Suk on a bus from Bangna area and noticed...if you walk past Udom Suk station heading toward Bangna...you go past a couple nice bicycle shops...then a little further, on the left is a Turkish kebab/shwarma (whatever you call it) shop. Looked like something definitely worth checking out!

Actually made a mistake here...this shop (called Kebap Co.), is *before* the bicycle shops, not after. ;-)

It was good, but has been closed for over a month.

Do you know if it has re-opened?

I can confirm it is still closed.

Ate a kebab/wrap there once and I thought it was awful actually, maybe just a bad day.

  5. Went in to 101 Restaurant the other day and asked if they could make a veggie omelet. (I actually typed out basic instructions in Thai and English, in case they were clueless). After talking with the waitress (who spoke no English; I speak very basic Thai, but the Talking Thai app on my phone works wonders), who then spoke with the cook, they said yes, they could make it. But when I asked how much, they said B240 (with coffee and toast). I can get the same in Nana for (including small tip), B140, so I declined. Cool spot, with nice yard (UK: garden), in back. But a bit expensive for me. Baan Chang restaurant, just 3 minutes from my apartment, has American breakfast (2 eggs, bacon, toast, coffee), for just B85. But they don't do omelets.

Agree that's a bit expensive. But besides that I highly recommend 101 restaurant. If you take the normal menu the food is excellent and good priced. Bangers and mash. Beef stew. Schnitzel etc etc al very good quality price wise.

I'm looking for mexican, Indian, Arabic kinds of restaurant in the udom suk area but so far no luck.

  6. I lived is several parts of town so far.

    My top choices would be:

Soi Rangnam: decent area with a lot of local lifestyle, small shopping- center with supermarket, BTS-station nearby, lots of nice local restaurants and pubs.

Narathiwas/ Sathorn: excellent BTS/BRT- connection, rather quiet in the many side-sois.

Rangnam seems to be a good place. Are Farangs accepted in the bars etc. I've read somewere that some loacals can be quit agressive if you come in 'local' bars.

Can you confirm if I can get a nice condo with swimming pool and fitness and utilities like cable, wifi, electrics etc. for 15.000 and less? Or is this really wishfull thinking?

  7. Ladies and Gentlemen,

I have read many topics about this subject already, but I'm looking for an area tailord to my wishes and hoped you could help me out.

I am a male 31 years old and will stay in bangkok for 6 months starting in October to see if there are any job opportunities and if I like thailand for the long term.

Here is a sum up of all the things I am looking for and hopefully this will generate some good suggestions.

-looking for a furnished condo/appartement with gym and swimming pool included.

-not to expensive, I would love it if I can stay under 15.000 baht a month including internet (wifi), cable TV, all utilities/fixed costs. (I know this depends on personal use, so lets say I'm an average user :)

-good mix of friendlyThai people and a few westerners, not all westerners like in sukhumvit.

-within walking distance of metro/train so I can get around easy.

-plenty of good and cheap Thai food around.

-some nice places to go out, no gogo bars but just nice places to get a beer and meet people. Cinema, shopping mall closeby maybe?

-I'm on a 50.000 baht a month budget so all of the above needs to be covered with this amount.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to answer me. :)

    Cheers,

    Chris
