Harrry, you are so right !!

I agree wholeheartedly with Dr Dave, and that is my experience too! Very often it is farangs who light up inside restaurants, and resent being asked to desist! Many travel to LOS because of the lax attitude towards smoking inside, as the Thai owners are fearful of losing business! Little do they realise they are also losing the custom of non-smokers who are fed up at having their meal spoilt by chain smoking at nearby tables !

Buick is right ! There does seem to be much more hassle at DMK now than Suvarnabhumi, which is a pain, as that is usually the exit and entry point for genuine visits to neighbouring countries !

I would have thought that the Visa exempt stamp would be best, then just renew for a further 30 days at any Immigration Office for 1,900 baht!
-
No more double entry visas!
-
I find that a Govt.Hospital medical card with photo is accepted everywhere, though sometimes reluctantly!
-
Sounds like good advice!

Agreed ! Visiting friends is the smart move, though someone I know has never entered an answer to that question in 20 years !
-
By my simple calculations, I make the fall of the £ far greater than quoted! Less than a year ago, it touched 55 baht to the £, and as of yesterday at Suvarnabhumi, a shade over 40 was being quoted !

Of course IO's can allow or refuse entry, but surely there must be some template?

Are there any hard and fast rules relating to the number of VE entries, or is it arbitrary? If they made visa application easier in the U.K rather than harder, many more would obtain a 60 day visa ¬
-
So what are the number of visa exempt entries allowed?
It has been made so difficult in the U.K to obtain a 60 day visa, that many people revert to using the 30 day VE entry. Consulates no longer accept postal entries, and one has to trek to London to apply for a visa, then another journey on a different day to collect it. Not everyone has the luxury of the time required to spend on that exercise !
-
Flights to Yangon or sometimes Singapore can be even cheaper!

Is there any rule whatever which says one is only allowed 4 visa exempt entries per year, or are certain I.O.'s exceeding their authority? I know it was talked about, but thought it was never enacted? Ubonjoe, please!

Harsh but accurate! Expensive lesson!

Koh Chang has everything you are looking for, but is rather like Samui was 20-30 years ago. I prefer Samui because of all the facilities, but would avoid Chaweng and Lamai. There are some lovely parts in the North between Maenam and Nathon, and again Southwards from Nathon, which are completely unspoilt yet near a beach, some with reasonable waves depending on the time of year and how far the sea goes out!

I agree with most posts! 100 - 200 Km is ideal ! Certainly no nearer!

Good advice!

Try AAM - Anti-aging Medicine - which acts not only preventatively but in vivo as well. Surely the main point is not necessarily longevity but quality of life in later years, and avoiding the onset of debilitation and dementia et al ?

Fans rather than a/c, and loose fitting clothes- preferably cotton and white!

Getting a Visa is a good idea, but in the U.K they have made it so difficult, many people. myself included, have just given up and risk Visa exempt entry. The problem is two fold. Firstly, postal applications have now been stopped, necessitating travelling to the Embassy or Consulate, then returning another day to collect the passport and visa. Secondly, if you are travelling in and out of Thailand, only a single entry visa is now obtainable. The METV in the U.K. is onerous to obtain, to say the least. All the recent changes seem to be for the worst!

Lots of sensible advice! I also would recommend a trial period of several months and then decide for sure, but with your wife!
