  1. I am sure that most people who are regular readers and contributors to TVF would like to think that they are reasonably intelligent, so they should be able to discriminate between the trolls,

detractors, cynics and those who are genuinely objective ? Many posts are just derisory and should be treated as such ! On the other hand I have sometimes been amazed by the depth of knowledge on a specific subject shown by one or two posts !

  2. Some I.O's make up the rules as they go along. It appears to be somewhat arbitrary. Someone who is retired might elect to travel around Asia, visiting LOS many times in the process. He/she should not need a Visa for short stays and might not have a spare £5000 already sitting in the Bank for the previous 6 months, just in case !! The METV requirements were a great shock to many people. who had been led to believe that it would be an answer to their prayers, encouraged by the Thai Press, then found it penalized certain nationals, especially British !

  3. Not only would a European not park £5,000 in a current account, but until the requirements were published on November 13th, they would even know that was going to be required. Are Brits now meant to be telepathic as well as being penalized under the new rules? There is no way I can think of, as to how someone can park £5,000 in an account retrospectively for the previous 6 months, of you never dreamt that was going to be asked for !

  4. Ubonjoe,

I have always kept within the 30 day limit on Visa Exempt, and never back to back. However. last week I was refused entry at Don Mueang by a female officer for having in her opinion too many Thai stamps in my passport. I argued and she called over a male superior, who was clearly embarrassed but felt he had to back her up, and asked me to get an extension next time !! Of what?

Clearly she was wanting to implement a rule that has never been enacted, but she felt she had the power to introduce it unilaterally!
