My answer:
Yes, I love it
No, I hate my life here
Wish I could turn back time and live somewhere else
I am bored with Thailand
Yes, if it wasn't the people
Sums up my thoughts

She attended a language course in my home town......she was 19 and I was 18.
My parents worried that such a relation might cause trouble in the future as our families will be spread around the globe. I didn´t care, told her how much I liked her and then it all happend very quick.
She told her dad that she won´t come back and I told my partens that I will leave home 2-3 years earlyier than planned. We got married and started to work and build our life.
Surprisingly her dad was full of support and even sent us some money to make our new home more comfortable, I still was only a student so our life was simple but great.
The first time I ever went to Thailand was 1 year after we married. I dind´t talk to my family for more than 4 years, after that time they made the first step towards us and today we´re fine again.
We´ve lived in Europe in a great relation when suddenly after many years the old warnings of my family camre true and my FIL got really sick. At first my wife said that she will be fine and life will go on.
But then after a while she decided that she HAD to go back and help the family as they began to struggle. Daddy used to have money but never had an insurance and his accident also happend while he was abroad, so help was needed. I felt guilty for what my wife and her dad had done for me and so I followed her to a land where I actually didn´t want to go and live. She said the same but she also felt that it is her "duty" to come back. This time my parents didn´t complain a lot when we left home and went here, they just said that they now have more reasons to go on holiday more often.

I´d guess the clunks may come from the suspension strut mount, the bearing where the whole shock is mounted in. Makes ugly clunks when you go over something specially speed bumps.
My car just had the same issue, though it´s merely 3 years old and has done only 24.000km the Thai roads took their toll. Never happend so early before, but BMW replaced it under the BSI warranty

Good point, I acutally wonder how many of those first car buyers renewed their first free year of 1st class as they might be on a tight budget already anyway.
And what is when they crash their cars without insurance, they´ll continue to pay for a pile of scrap metal......
If they're tight on money I presume the car is financed. And if on finance they can not get away with not having first class insurance, the finance company will not accept that, too big of a risk to them.
So will and can the finance company monitor if you have a 1st class insurance during the finance time? Would be Interesting to know, in Germany it´s possible (afaik) to have a financed vehicle with only the basic coverage. Serious question, I´ve no idea how this works in Thailand Will Toyota call and say: Hey your first free year is over you need to renew it?
Yes, they can and do. If you don't renew with their in-house broker they require you to submit insurance papers indicating sufficient coverage.
So that is different here, but of course it makes a lot of sense that you are forced to have one.

If you can afford BMW....just her go. She is probably one of those first time car owner who can barely make her monthly car payment...be nice and let 1st class I insurance take care of it.

She doesn't have insurance.
And the 2000 baht compensation is on top of the repair bill.
I thought about asking my insurance to take care of it, but I have a sneaking suspicion that no matter that it wasn't my fault, I'll still get marked in their systems as a liability :-)
So she got no insurance, but i guess her Iphone is the newest Gotta love Thailand.

Actually you have the CCTV footage, the security guy and her licencse plate and name. Just give that to your insurance and then at least you will have your car repaired without any increased premium. I really think your insurance company can help you out with this problem as her car has to be registered somewhere too. In my last accident we both had the same company, made it even faster.
And just forget about her, no need to talk with her any further as all the evidence needed is there and your insurance should take care......now you only have to find a taxi while you wait for your repaired car
Edit, yes just what NBD says should be true.

Don't be so pedantic.
Make her kiss your bmw goodnight and say sorry also.
I don´t let others kiss my BM, who knows what they have kissed before

1st class insurance is always handy.
But a 1st class insurcance doesn´t take away all the costs YOU will have to pay YOURSELF like the taxi or rental car and all the inconvenience it caused. Thailand is different
At home my first class insurance would provide me a car while mine is beeing repaired or compensate me with the amount that an equivalent rental car would be worth. When the car is new they even might compensate for the loss of value. It would be no big deal cause I could drive around with another BMW rental car, probably a higher spec. model from the dealer to convince me for the next buy. Here I get nothing, not from the insurance nor from the dealer, except that they repair my car.
Last time my Bimmer got scratched they kept my car for 7 days cause they realised that a spare part was missing when they had began their work. The girl that scratched my car said sorry, that´s all I got from her. Asking for compensation or playing the blame game wouldn´t have been very promising or reasonable and a waste of time.
And when you pay shitloads of money for your dream car and pamper it everyday then something like that is not beeing pedantic but fully understandable....it´s not a freakin Hilux
Just leave it, not worth any further time and effort.

Somehow it´s about time that others deliver the message to Thailand that they have to clean up their mess. Now that the neighbouringing countries aren´t communists or isolated dictorships anymore Thailands advantages begin to melt away and other spots become more and more interesting for future business.

witgearauto.com they seem to have some experience with different Benz models: http://www.witgearauto.com/forum/7--benz.html (click the threads for pics of their work)
http://www.bkg-garage.com/ They say they can help most cars but don´t mention Benz directly.
But not at your doorstep......

I once talked to some guy who was responsible for marketing in a company. He told me exactly what you guys also guessed right. Double the price and give 90% discount. That´s the way it works, everywhere in the world. It´s stupid, it´s simple but it works and the customers still want it and ask for this kind of "scam".
But i feel sorry for everyone who is loosing money or even his job just because of this. Thailands needs to change somehow someday, but Suthep is not the saviour. He should be in jail right now for all the damage he did, he went too far.
but isn't that still quite a significant discount?
Here let's try. Take something worth 90 double the price to 180 at 90% discount it's now worth 18. At 90% discount of the original price of 90 it would be 9.
Of course the math behind that is wrong, I meant that the inital offer will already contain a large discount tag like 50% which is already included in the calculations.
But he works for a company that sells furniture, not everyone does this of course. It would destroy the reputation of the product (or the brandname). Let´s say they want 500€ for something, then they just go ahead and say that this thing would acutally cost 999€ but right now we have a limited 50% promotion. But they´ll never ask for that 999€, that is just for show and to make the customers believe that the product they buy is even better. The customers still fall for that "cheap" trick. Because when you are in the shop these awesome discounts will stop your brain from being reasonable. Just watch the flyers and brochues in Germany, every front page has something like OMG 50-70% discount.......all the time
Sorry for the OP

Thainess is where you think 2+2=4 then find out its 4 and a little bit!
Or 3.5.
But Thai 4 not same same as Farang 4, you no understand Thai 4.
Good about Thainess, to see everything in a relaxed way
Bad about Thainess, to see everything in a relaxed way
Somedays I like it, somedays it drives me crazy.

At least it looks better than the old taxi.

i'm 10 y here,
never met a farang whit a hi so girl,
maybe they claim to be well educated, but lol,
they are all ex-bar ladies,no exception.
The better English they speak, the longer they were flirting with farangs.
Some can speak a little italian, or dutch,or ......just gives away what nationality
was B#nging them before you did.
But no offence ,and there are exceptions !
Virgins.....witch were invisible to the thai boys in their village? lol
Some worked in a "shoe shop" in BKK ,lol (they massage your shoes there?)
But even if you have the sole pure GF, 5 minutes and she will accept 1000bht ( if you are not looking !)
Bets are on .
I would grant your comment if you would say a big part of or the majority!
But insulting everyone´s asian wife as a h**ker isn´t fair play
fair play ?
In Thailand ?
You must be joking?
did you read:"But no offence ,and there are exceptions !" ?
Sorry again ,for everyone's virgin!
But the 1000 bht rule stands, lol ,also for you ,just move away a few weeks and see what happens ?
TIT
I saw that you wrote "no offence and exceptions" but after that sentence you sad that even that ones will grab the 1K Baht.

walk into any hi-so public place like a mall or a social club and you will spot the "im too rich to give a fuc_k "
kinda women out shopping ,always impeccably dressed and usually shopping in farang style supermarkets
for organic impoprted produce rather than thai style side of the road stalls
pharmacys are a great place to spot them too ,buying expensive whitening creams and make up
if anyone says they cant tell the differnce between a isaan farm girl and a minted bkk girl from a wealthy
family or marriage to a thai billionaire they must be blind
take a walk around paragon or jewellery shops ,real designer shops like prada (not mbk designer lol ) and you will
see them blowing money like its nothing on the stupidest items
there is shitloads of these women in bkk ,expensive overpriced coffees during the day with friends and maybe wine
or exensive cocktail bars at night there is some classy birds
its just a matter of going to the right places ,although most of these women are not looking for a farang so you may
have to put in a lot of groundwork before you get anywhere
too much wannabes if you only concentrate on the looks and what they buy/eat. May be a first hint, but could also be a middle class bank staff living on the cost of 2-3 boyfriends and maxed out credit desperately trying to be what she cannot be.
Ok, maybe the ones in the Prada shop will have shitloads of money, but they will ignore all of us Though we are so hansum
-
Try bank employees. They fits to your needs.
Bank staff? Hi-So? What did I miss? They are kinda well educated and definately would be a good catch, but not what the OP asked for.

These girls are mentally fine, don´t worry.
But the fact that they regularly come home with their hair matted with spunk is neither here, nor there.....
There are always exceptions.
-
This is a joke, right?
If you're serious, then yes, stick with what you've got. For the most part, the kind of girls you described only date foreigners if they're mentally broken or just completely soured on Thai men (which I would say also qualifies as mentally broken, since in the end we men are all the same). Or if the foreigner is rich. But even then, I'd wager that girl is not hi-so and is in fact a gold digger in sheeps' clothing.
I know 2 examples of hi-so thai/chinese who dated foreigners. But they all got to know each other abroad , not in Thailand. These girls are mentally fine, don´t worry. They are out there and it happens, just not very often. One was studying in the US and the other traveling through Europe, that´s how it happend. Their new boyfriends weren´t as rich as they were, well educated (uni) middle class guys.
About the gold digger in sheeps' clothing, when I got to know these girls I never thought any second that they might have a lot more money than I do. They did not have a 1 million handbag (fake or real) or anything special on them. They didn´t try hard to show off like the ones you can see walking at Paragon on the weekend...........
No need to believe me, I know what I´ve seen and who I´ve met. Just because it does only happen in 0,0001% of all cases it´s not fantasyland, imagination. My wife´s family isn´t super rich or very hi-so, well off I´d say. But Daddy faught hard to send her to an über expensive school where she got to know a lot of these Hi-So folks. Some are indeed very arrogant and I wouldn´t want to talk with them about anything serious, and surprisingly some are so "normal" you would never guess who they are.
Ahh and I almost forgot it, they were roughly the same age, that helped too. I doubt they would have dated men 25years older..........rich or poor.
