  1. Well just to make things a little more interesting it seems there are now posts on Facebook insulting the British queen. Some nice colourful language because she won't send this woman back to Thailand. Then going on about how if she refuses to send her back to Thailand the Thai army will invade England . Oh my god , made my day, good job I finished my coffee as it would have gone all over the keyboard.

Can just imagine some of my UK army friends knocking the ... out of the Thai army.

Now I suppose someone should go to this persons house with a spray can and install the union jack on their door? Any takers.?

    Irony, irony, irony.

Looks like the post has now been removed with an apology!

I´d love to see that cheesy.gif Some reality check may help these hotheads to calm down........anyway

What does this tell us when now these people copy the very same childish behaviour they allegedly despise so much?? coffee1.gif

  2. Swimming pool with high voltage lighting, no RCDs, no earthing - An accident waiting to happen. When will these people ever learn?

Thai electricity different, no need earth.

Yes you worrie too mutt, no need earth.....

Maybe Europe is a police state in many ppl´s eyes, but at least you cannot build a new house without an RCD for every plug.

  3. I read that there was a faulty batch of ZF gearboxes, maybe your first and your replacment car are of the same batch? The amount of CKD kits brought to Thailand aren´t that high, so this might be possible.

When you posted that you´ll get a replacement car I thought that exactly this might happen....very very unlucky!! German crap biggrin.png I never had a problem though.

Maybe you also have one of the faulty radiator fans? There was also a faulty batch of these whistling.gif Someone here posted that his 3 series went into limp mode for no obvious reason. That was very often caused by faulty radiator fans which are connected to the car´s computer as well. So to protect the engine the car suddenly goes to limp mode.

  4. Swimming pool with high voltage lighting, no RCDs, no earthing - An accident waiting to happen. When will these people ever learn?

Never, as a RCD / RCBO probably costs about Bht 3000 - much too expensive to even consider for saving a life.

    What a sad story sad.png

Don´t forget that it´s not just the presence of saftey equipment, it also has to be installed correctly and needs maintenance. Most workers are NOT qualified and everyone can do everything!

This is where all the "mai ben rai" leads in the end......loss of life.

  5. She should really work herself and learn that money isn´t growing on trees, noone likes spoilt brats. Look at the "Civic Girl" or "Red Bull Heir" They´ve never learned anythingcoffee1.gif

Apart from that I would also say: Mazda 3, the best car in your price range right now. Everything else is either old stuff, ugly, a taxi or all of that.

Why no Mini? As money is not the problem then buy something that brings face and style wub.png

  6. My ultimate driving machine (usually stuck in BKK traffic)biggrin.png

Ok it´s no classic like Nam´s ride but I´m happy!

What ever floats your boat on this forum is coooooooooooool, as long as tyre pressures are strictly adhered tooo, OK.........smile.png

Tyre pressure is second on my list, right after wash`n wax.

  7. I'm sure that if one of you guys wanted to undertake the "education campaign", and guaranteed one of the local manufacturers minimum sales of 5K units/month, they'd do a production run for you tongue.png

Does anyone here actually think that these big, global manufacturers are completely missing the market here?

How can they miss the market if they make it? As if there would be any choice.

It's a hotly competitive market with plenty of players - if there was an opportunity to increase sales by offering lower-end diesel engined passenger cars, surely they would take it (especially the tier-2 brands).

There's no doubt the mainstream brands are watching Benz and BMW sales closely, but haven't yet seen a solid business opportunity in their own segments.

The other factor at play here is the slow, but sure, electrification of the passenger car market.

For me it looks like everyone is selling the same with just a different badge on it. Noone of the big players has ANYTHING that is outstanding from the masses?! Imagine a Jazz with a small turbo petrol engine like VW or Ford have got it, like 1.4 140 HP 250NM = FUN. I bet the Thais would love it! But why does noone try to sell something "new"?

Merc, BMW, VW may be interesting but that´s a very small segment of the market.

I agree that Thais will prefer the hybrids over the Diesels, just like the Japanese. And someday soon the Diesel won´t be able to compete with the hybrids anymore anyway and loose ground.

  8. I'm sure that if one of you guys wanted to undertake the "education campaign", and guaranteed one of the local manufacturers minimum sales of 5K units/month, they'd do a production run for you tongue.png

  9. In Thailand, appearance is all, substance is not important. That's why people here buy such crappy cars like a Benz E200. The cheapest way to get the 3-pointed star on the hood.

That is also why cars like Toyota Vios or Honda City sell so well: they appear like real cars with hood and trunk. Hatchbacks are still not as popular as these 3-volume cars, although hatchbacks have more passenger space and are much more versatile.

And only "agricultural" cars like pick-ups have Diesel engines, poor people cars.

And Thais don't want to appear poor, dark skin, Diesel engine etc.

    Consequently they buy gasoline cars.

Doesn't make sense I know. But as I said: Appearance over substance!

It doesn't matter that a modern Diesel engine (I am not talking about Diesel engines used in pick-ups ) are at least equal to their counterpart using gasoline in terms of sound and top power. But are way better in terms of low-end power (torque) and of course mileage.

Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

Everyday in BKK, 320d, 525d, E250CDI, don´t think these Thais would consider themself poor, the diesel seems a popular choice. Even saw a 535D import, some seem to want it thumbsup.gif

  10. Perhaps there are folks who don't like the Sound of them. Im one.thumbsup.gif

The only downside of a Diesel yes. Of course I´m in love with everything that has 6 cylindes +, but I also really like Diesel cars for some reason, maybe cause I grew up in the countryside and developed some passion for tractor sounds. biggrin.png

But I think Vdub did an ok job with the sound design on the new Golf VII GTD 184. A great car, was at the dealer for a test drive.

  11. While small capacity diesel engined passenger cars sell will in EU, that does not translate to US, South America, SEA, Australasia, or pretty much any of the rest of the world.. including Thailand.

Thais are buying small capacity petrol cars in their droves. I am sure the Honda City, Toyota Vios and the Nissan Almera are by far the best selling cars in Thailand. The driving experience of a modern diesel would be virtually no different.

Those shitty 1.2CVT eco cars drive like crap. Such little asthmatic engines with no displacement worth to talk of and no turbo either are terrible dull and slow.

I´ve driven a lot of cars, rental, from friends or by any other chance just to try it. I think I know how these small 50-80HP eco cars feel. And most of them with their gasoline engines are underpowered, specially with auto and aircon like in LOS. It´s ok for the permanent traffic jam maybe but when you leave town and have 2-3 passengers it´s crap!

A while ago I got a chance to drive a friends Nissan Micra (March?) diesel, 86HP 200NM, this engine doesn´t have a lot more power than the 1.2 80Hp but it got the DOUBLE amount of torque. It will never feel underpowered, you can climb a hill with a full trunk and overtake with some more confidence. And you can achieve 5-6 liters per 100km without trying hard to save fuel. Or the Ford Ecoboost 1.0 125HP, great, I loved it in the new Fiesta.

I guess it´s a price and maybe an image problem, those simple 1.2-1.4 engines are cheap and uncomplicated, good for develepong markets. All Thai cars are build to a price and stripped down. Sometimes just 1 Airbag (still), missing features from other markets.

  12. "The Thailand Automotive Institute is aiming to achieve a production target of 3 million vehicles annually by 2017, as set by the Industry Ministry."

The Thailand Automotive Institute is aiming to achieve nothing.

It's the Japanese motor giants that regulate the production of cars.

Without them and their investments, Thailand would be producing and regulating fresh air.

Everyone´s always talking about the Thai Auto industry, but such thing doesn´t exist. It´s ALL japanese! All parts, all licences, all knowledge is foreign!!! Cheap labour is the Thai contribution.

    Yes I´m angry today smile.png

  13. The 60 second mode of binary options is a "gamble" yes. But not in legal terms I´d say. Most "brokers" also offer 30/60 minutes and 1 day or 1 week/month as a timeframe. And then it´s not more or less of a gamble than any other investments available from "normal" banks. I also invest in stocks, FX and knock out certificates for the DAX or Dow Jones. Some products offered by banks may also lose all their value if a certain price or date is reached, could also be called "binary" All or nothing, so where´s the difference to "investing" then? I think investing used to mean you buy stocks from a company, but it has become a a much wider field with complicated and risky products.

Whenever my wife asks me why I bought this or that and I show her the chart full of drawings, lines and indicators, she always said: Ah, so you´re trying to figure out if it´s going up or down, you bet on high or low. biggrin.png It´s always a game somehow, you just call yourself investor or trader instead of gambling addict.

Legal status? Greyzone maybe, investing is ok in Thailand, so why to worry. Work permit? Why? You´re not taking away any Thai job, you don´t have a shop, you don´t do it in public, you don´t register a company, you don´t hire anyone, you´re not in competition to someone, you´re not selling anything, you´re not creating anything. Wouldn´t call this work.

  14. What beats me is that the likes of Rolex, GUCCI, Louis Vitton etc. haven't had their own investigators here for the last decade, to try to combine visits to Laos and Myanmar, and locate the large watch/bag/jeans factory producing all the fakes. So a Thai company is asking for royalties, because Thai bands now copy their ownership rights. Cobblers..... complete and utter rubbish if this gets anywhere. The BIB take the money to permit production...... as the BIB takes from everything else illegal.....

Fake Rolex? There are no fake products in Thailand. YOU! Stop lying, Lady Gaga, stopy lying!! Stop insulting Thailand cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

As long as the big guys manage everything illegal here nothing will change. It just creates Karma and might backfire someday wai2.gif

  15. I sometimes feel like doing that to be honest.

    Several times a day.

You´d love to, but you won´t as you´re not completely nuts like this guy facepalm.gif It´s not only the intentionally caused accident alone, but the statement of him afterwards is what really makes him deserve a real kick in the n***. Not just a few k Baht fine for road rage and then he´s on the road again.

I guess there is a point for everyone when you´d just love to crush some of these motorbikes (mostly deg waen though, not Kawasakis) biggrin.png

  16. Mail it to CW.

As long as you a have a receipt to prove you sent it and then can use the number on it to track it you are covered if you don't get the receipt back. Just print out the tracking info to show that it was delivered.

Ok CW then, bet they get thousands of 90d mails anyway, no matter how it´s suposed to be done right now. They´ll know how to handle biggrin.png

Of course I´ll keep my EMS receipt safe and also a copy of the last 90d report, just in case something goes wrong,

    Thx

  17. You cannot mail in your report to Lad Prao as that is their policy. At the two alternate locations you can only do 90 day reporting in person (or have another person report for you).

Mail in to CW-road and the postman will send it on to Lad Prao whille the closure of CW-road continous.

Called 1111 two weeks ago, asked if it´s ok to mail the 90d to Lad Pharo as long as CW is closed. After the lady reconfirmed that with someone I got told it´s ok to do so.

So what now.......TiT. Actually I wanted to send it today, was a bit early when I phoned them cause I messed up the due date.

  18. Was gonna get one but now i am leaning more towards the upcoming 2014-2015 w205 c class with 210 plus HP and 0-100 km/h in 6.6 sec faster than the 3 series

My beginner's motobike is quicker than that...

    clap2.gif

In BKK even a Honda Click is faster, but that´s not the point is it?

BMW has the 328i, 218HP, 2.99M. But it is detuned from 245HP, Thai tax strikes again.

  19. I cannot find it quickly but it was on the website of transport in the requirements for driving instructors section.

It is a normal large bay but not excessively large.

I sympathise with him as they also have a test where you reverse through a soi of flags about twice the leangth of a car and as I drove the test in a Vigo I had driven for about 10 minutes clipped one the first time. THey let me have a second go. It was pretty tight for a truck but would be no problem in a small car.

Easiest for the test if he does it in a normal car. The bends he has to go through are more geared to that. Make sure he knows a hill start unless he does it in an auto..

I thought it was about 500 bht wide. thumbsup.gif

    cheesy.gifclap2.gif 500B wide...

  20. Both slower than a Civic.

Neither a Civic 2.0 nor an Altis 2.0 and for sure not the 1.8 have more performance than a 320d.......these 9,26 secs for the 320d? Naaahhh. There are more tests and videos everywhere that will support the average 0-100 to 7,x-8.0 sec. In my 320d , the tailgating Camry, Altis, Civic couldn´t catch up when I pushed it.

Biggest advantage of the 320d is it´s massive amount of torque, always ready. You´ll need to rev. the Civic or Altis until you´ll have power. In an everyday situation the 320d will ALWAYS provide more power faster than a 1.8 or 2.0 Altis, everything else would be a miracle. The only question is if this little advantage is worth 1.xxx.xxx sad.png Damn tax and greedy BMW. The Focus Tdci Ford used to sell here would have been a nice alternative in this price range, but the new one doesn´t have a diesel anymore. Too expensive or Thais don´t like Diesels, dunno.

The Civic or Altis do well though, I agree. Could drive both as 2.0l, and they are way better than the Mitsu Lancer 2.0 for example. I think the new Altis is a good choice and I like it more than the old one. Maybe I´ll have a chance to drive the new one someday, I´ll try to get one when I need a rental car for my next holidays.

  21. Well why the hell not?

People work very hard to earn money to buy a nice, more luxurious car, what is the problem with that?

Or steal govt revenue that wes supposed to be used for a project for the betterment of the population?

cheesy.gif so everybody who drives BMW or Benz works for the government and steals?

Daddy, that description would fit a lot of 7 series and S Class government limos.
But you are right, as well as politicians, drug dealers and pimps seem partial to BM's and Mercs, at least according to Top Gear. wink.png

Though you are right with all this, did you forget that this is TV? Hardly any corrupt Thai Government officials here. And the OP "only" got a 3series, so he can´t be that corrupt at allwink.png

But whenever I see a Ferari in BKK with a 20year old driver I´m always courious where Daddy got the money from.....maybe be hard work, maybe......

Top Gear, I love you Brits for this jewel of television. This is miles ahead of anything thumbsup.gif

  22. IEU car reliability index put Jap cars and korean cars even those made in EU at top ,,, VW, BMW and Mercedes came bottom ,, lower even than Renault , Fiat and American cars ,

Ferraris catch fire, I still would like to have one.

Doing the right thing doesn´t always make you happy. Maybe it´s great to know that a Camry hardly ever will break down. But when I sit in it and drive though Bangkok 10 other cars around me will be white Toyotas. And then I say to myself: You did the right thing, your 20 yealr old 2.0 engine and 20year old 4speed auto are perfectly reliable. What a pleasure saai.gifsaai.gifsaai.gif

Maybe the 3series will cause some trouble, maybe it is perfectly fine from now on. But one thing is for sure (just like in the advertisig) It will bring some joy! thumbsup.gif

And whatever brakes, 5 or 6 years BSI will fix that.

  23. I'd still budget 120k not every year but have that available just for the car.

Budget less for the ones with the toyota engine

Maybe that´s a good idea, have at least 100K per year available and if you don´t use it all up, just leave the rest for anything to come.

You don´t need to buy from a dealer, I only think you might be a little more on the safe side. But I would watch out that the car you are going to be was sold by BMW Thailand and therefore had

the service package. That means that the car got all the care it needed while it was with the previous owner for at least 5 years. And usually your car will have had any additional recall service actions made too.

80.000 miles or kilometer? If you mean miles I would look for a car with half the amount of miles. Diesel or gasoline version? The diesel might bring you more problems while getting older.

The 163hp diesel is know to have turbo problems and the 177hp and 184hp may have trouble with the timing chain. The 6 cylinder engines in the E60 are usually more reliable. The models until the facelift do have Idrive but no satnav, but there are some shops that can help out. https://www.facebook.com/DynavinShopThailandGermanDesignForGermanCars.
