Lets hope it is not the violent minority that are upset with the charter referendum results. They will certainly become even more of a minority if it is in fact them.

RIP to the victim and I hope the injured make a quick and full recovery.

I wonder if you can explain us which elements bring you to this bright conclusion.

Only if you can't read or write, same as in Thailand - no rocket science or super intelligence needed to think that through.

    Wait a minute.

Yesterday everyone had to mark his ballot with their thumbprint. Not only who couldn't write...

And there was nothing to write tho. Only mark yes or no...

In Europe, not only do you have to be registered in a particular province but also you have to be registered at a specific polling station!.... So we can put away the tinfoil!

Which tinfoil? I just explained why someone could vote in Bangkok although their home Province was hundreds kms away, I did not express an opinion, just stating a fact... These are rules in Thailand, and topic was about voting in Thailand.

About the first part, you stated your opinion very well.

What is their opinion based on? And where did I express an opinion about the Thai gov?

I havent seen any sad thais today, all I've spoken to are either indifferent or positive about the referendum... the only sadness I'm seeing is in this thread coming from the usual haters/whingers.

    ______

As for having to vote in home province, it's bs cos I know at least 3 thais who voted outside their hp and none who were prevented for the same.

If anyone that has a different opinion from YOU is a hater / whingers, your consideration of freedom of speech is not dissimilar from who is in charge now, I guess. That's why I speculated you could be very happy with the actual people in charge.

If I'm wrong I apologize, but I guess is not much classy demise who has a different opinion or feeling than your as a hater/whinger.

About voting outside home province, there was a timeframe to request to vote in the city where people live for work (example), so who did not request had to vote at home province.

  5. The US should focus on its own problems. They are far from perfect but keep telling the world how to do things.

How about the UN? They should mind their business too?

Not really but you can't expect them to know what is going on in Thailand.. They often judge all countries the same regardless of culture, history etc.

I didn't expect a different answer. Wonder why even Thailand bothers to be part of the UN then.

  6. Two weeks ago a friend of my brothers son in Melbourne went to the aid of a friend felled in a pub brawl. He was attacked by a man who stomped on his head. He died.

These kinds of things happen all over the world fuelled by alcohol or drugs. Thailand has no monopoly on this.

The tourists are rich in comparison to the thug perpetrators. Therein lies part of the problem: divide between rich and poor which distills down to the core of the problem in this country.

The loss of face issue exacerbates the problem of course and Thainess only causes anger and frustration to be pent up rather than dissipated..

Let me state that I am not trying to justify the actions of thugs, rather getting to the reasons why a society gets this way.

The publicity/CCTV issue being attacked by the government is typical boneheaded unskilled management common in military dictatorships.

If you control the media, you control thought processes, if you control thoughts, you suppress and keep people under the thumb.

Thailand is in a downward spiral heading out of control. Only a matter of time before its otherwise previously good reputation is in tatters.

Until the divide between rich and poor is addressed, this problem will only get worse.

Places like Pattaya and Patong and the red light districts in Bangkok should be avoided, especially late at night. This will be more the case as time progresses without action by diligent authorities that are sadly lacking in the LOS.

It happened in Hua Hin... Well different from Pattaya and red light districts of Bangkok...

  7. I lived many years in Pattaya.
Never, never have I seen Thais men beat a stranger for no reason.
I believe that this information is incomplete.
So the comments that follow will be pure fanciful speculations as usual.

You are a sad man... If you think that anything can justify such a vicious attack, you are dangerous too. Shame on you.

  8. Here's an idea.....why don't we all take a picture posing with the body. That should assist in the investigation.

    Disgusting morons. bah.gif

The Thais aren't offended by it, dead bodies are all part of life and death; it's quite common for families to have pics of a dead relative lying in a coffin before cremation. I think your rude comment about the rescue workers is a sign of someone not being able to assimilate into the culture; enjoy your holiday, hope you're happier with your next destination.

    Regards, LJ.

Maybe they should respect the deceased culture too? Just saying...

  9. From khaosod, "In an interview with MCOT, Jenphop’s father said his son had no memory of the crash and he asked people not to rush to judgment. He said they would act responsibly toward the families of the deceased."

I hope the as yet unidentified parents of the as yet unidentified victims DO NOT accept this thinly veiled and vile offer of cash.

But I don't hold out much hope.

I did read on a Thai-written newspaper that dad of one of the victims promised to go all the way in till the perp will be punished.

    I wish him best luck.
