  1. But you are comparing a developed/advanced economy (US) to a developing one (TL). Apples to oranges. Better to compare TL's police force with, say, India's.

Well, if I am allowed... you dragged NYC in the thread wink.png

    Speaking of NYC: http://online.wsj.com/articles/new-york-city-police-officer-shoots-kills-unarmed-man-nypd-says-1416581975

The article is pay-per-view... and by the way you're quite OT. The topic is not about New York life mate.

  2. This is very upsetting...particularly to my wife and I. We spent many mornings in that park...just before sunrise. In the 3 years that we lived there, we went every day, and saw nothing like this. There was a gruesome murder of a bar owner by his own staff, at his house...but not random violence at the park.

Police and military are helpless against this kind of violence.

I know it sounds bad....because it is.

random violence happens everywhere. just a few days ago, an elderly asian-american man (who was with his wife) in nyc, was pushed onto the path of an oncoming subway for no apparent reason.

"Yes" but presumably NYC does have a functioning, competent police force, unlike here in Thailand.

  3. There was an interesting interview of one of the student arrested yesterday on Prachathai, for who still speak about PTP and Red Shirts, about the motive of the protests...

I guess the link is not permitted so I won't write it here, but djjamie and the other hardcore extremist anti red should read it to understand better the threats they faced and again the motive of the students protest.

  4. Any Minister has the right to privacy. But when it comes to such a large sale in the nearest family, it is fair game for the journalists questions. I still think it is better to have a Premier with some passion, instead of a puppet that only reads a script, and doesn't answer any further questions.

Yingluck couldn't even answer the Ombudsman's question about the new passport her cousin issued illegally as a birthday present to her criminal fugitive brother. Still silence on that subject from her.

The PM's father sold some land and apparently made gifts to his children from the proceeds. The PM as a recipient declared that.

But the Shin supporters judge everyone by their own standards so suspect every transaction to be corrupt in some way like most of their boss's.

Not everyone who is critical of the PM or Junta are Shin supporters, you generalise people too much.

You make a good point. I have been called red shirt each and every time I expressed a different idea from Suthep protests, and against army "intervention".

They even do not bother to look at the fact that life and world is not black and white. And never took a look at my signature as well...

  5. If Prayuth is so eager to see Thailand return to a democratic process then why not let these youngsters have their say?

In my opinion, these students should be encouraged to voice their opinions, providing they do so in a legal and peaceful manner. That's all part of a true democatractic process, right?

Merely dismissing them as saying they 'do not understand' is not only derogatory but is also nothing short of asinine in my view.

A leader of a country should lead, not just dismiss those beneath him who may have an opinion different from his own.

That's the same MO of some kind of posters here on TVF... lol

  6. Look at this topic and you will understand why I took a long break from posting here...

Insults, attacks, name calling is the best sport here on TVF.

Whichever idea you post on, you will be attacked and told you are part of a gang, herd, group.

Come on guys be not babies and if you were protesting against corruption few months ago and cheering the coup because it could make a change againt corruption, now it's time to stand by the same principles and ask questions about PM asset declarations and transparency.

If you feel it's not the case, you're being at least naive.

Why yes! We were all awaiting a post from you with bated breath! laugh.png

Comedy post of the year... and by the way, when you will delight us with some ON TOPIC insights?

  7. Not blaming the victim. Did you ever stop to think that the Thais are getting sick and tired of drunk and obnoxious foreigners ? I sure am. I do just fine here thank you very much. After twenty years never had a single problem.giggle.gif

I would guess with your social skills very few people pay any attention or care.

This has nothing to do with people being drunk or obnoxious, it's just outright thuggery.

99.9999 percent of my friends are Thai i avoid foreigners because most are trouble.

Well sure it jumps to my mind the question: where do you live?

I have a good job in Bkk, I have the luck to know many great people, foreigners and Thais.

I know which places to avoid if I don't want to have anything to do with drunk and obnoxious people...

Sure, in the years I came to know some despicable subject, but sure too I did not want to crack his head open with a hoe...

You are blaming on the foreigners commenting a case where the foreigner had been assaulted for be... foreigner. Assaulters wanted to imitated their heroes: killers on Koh Tao. Nothing much to dig here.

P.s. A little advice: you should put your post AFTER quoting, not before.

  8. I spotted an interesting article in Thai Rath over the week end, the gist of which I summarize below for the benefit of those who cannot read Thai.

"After the Koh Tao murders a crazy conspiracy developed with a view to making Thai people bitterly hate Thai police. They have repeatedly incited their friends to believe that Thai police looked for Burmese scapegoats to get forced confessions. After the dust had settled and the social media idiots all returned to America, it turned out after 3 DNA tests that the police were right.

Scotland Yard and the British Ambassador, who spent a long time engrossed in the case, asked to see all the details of the DNA tests of 300 people on Koh Tao and the taking of samples. All the Scotland Yard aunties and the British ambassador were so impressed that they asked the Thai police to come to the UK to train their own police. Even more important than the praise heaped on Thai police by the Brits was their admission that the Thai police used more advanced equipment and techniques in the investigation than their own.

Once the imaginative fantasies are over, hopefully people will stop criticizing Thai police."

    ...and I am John Belushi.

Dear Lord, how I would love to hear Scotland Yard opinion about these words.

Edit: Sorry for the second post but somehow text was cut out of the first...

  9. This red and yellow bickering is so amusing. Like two bald men fighting over a comb.

This should be elected as post of the year!

I totally agree with you, and I despise posters demising others just because they have different ideas.

    Guys: GROW UP!

How dare you interfere with our childish antics. Forgetting the near past. Majority here wish the Thai government well and hope in time the bad can be turned to good.

The minority here do not like military intervention, therefore hate the PM.

Childish has never been as appropriate... Majority, minority... Who tells who is in majority here? Is it established by number of posts of two factions? Or how many posters in a "brigade"?

    Oh gosh...

  11. I not shoot you down but I completely disagree.

The military never did any good to Thailand, as in the previous coups they always had put their hands and arms in the jar, no positive changes, no real care for the country but for themselves.

They talk reform and do almost nothing, and what happened before we are seeing now. Same same...

I had a dream: I saw a country ruled in the interest of the People, and with institution not governing for themselves, a country where military is on duty to protect people, not to (mal)govern them, a country where a clan cannot be "owner" of it.

...but it was only a dream.

Fair post but all doom and gloom. the military never BEFORE did a lot of good but recently not a bad record of getting shut of corrupt dead wood.

Your dream will come true in 2016 Feb ? hope the Thai people have grown up enough to vote honestly--they will definitely be more aware than last time---enlightened being the operative word.

Sorry, but I just saw the "Doom and gloom" referred to me... I am usually a positive guy, who knows me personally at least knows that. And least of all I am not part of any brigade, or group, or whatever. I have my own idea.

But allow me to be pessimistic on how things are going here in Thailand. Because everytime we had a coup here, there was always someone saying military will clean the situation, but just look back and look how this "wave" has started and I don't see any tiny difference.

But that's fine, it's my idea, you sure have a totally different one and I respect it. I hope the best for Thailand, but I don't really rely on any change at all.

Sorry but I really don't see anything good done against corruption... Plus no transparency on what the imposed government is doing now.

Beach cleaned? Situation back as usual.

Phuket taxi? Situation back as usual.

    Gambling? Situation back as usual.

Lottery tickets? Situation back as usual.

Some nice mirror change, that as people turn their heads go back to usual business. That's all.

By the way: as usual History will judge who is in power now. But I don't have much hopes it will be so benevolent.

About going to elections on Feb 2016? I not believe too much about it... Many "cheerful" articles on newspapers lately are preparing the field of "More time is needed"...

The problem is not about people to vote honestly. Is about POLITICIANS and WHOEVER else is in power to be honest, isn't it?

Glad anyway we had an honest and constructive debate...

  13. Ginjag "The next election will be fair---but please tell me who will be eligible to stand ??"

Well that is the question, I suspect that the Thai voters will have the option of voting for Retired General...insert any name you like or Khun Ying.... Insert any name you like. The Sino-Thai members of the Amart will pre-select the 'candidates', a situation not dissimilar to what is causing the protests in Hong Kong at the present time.

I think Fiji did well out of the Military intervention. Now open and fair.

My own honest opinion is there HAS to be some sorting out here, the only ones are the Military. The people could well have had PTP for the full term, BUT governance was non existent.

Thailand cannot afford to go down the road as was again and keep making the err. You see how much has been revealed ?? Thais ARE more enlightened so good the PM is paving the way for the next elections.

The minority on here will shoot me down for this.
