The best thing is that when you identity is stolen and you are in big trouble, you can always go to the local police box, where you will find very competent people to handle your case… so don’t worry ???? -
So it finally looks like I will get my first vaccine shot to Thursday (Pfizer) and expect second shot I guess 4 weeks after. Question: If double vaccinated can I fly from CM to BKK and back without quarantine??

SURVEY: Will Thailand continue to be a favorable destination for retirees?
khunpa replied to Scott's topic in Thailand News
I don’t believe Thailand will change much, when it comes to their view of foreigners. Even though they financially could need it. Especially now. The problem with Thailand is “Thai-ness, their “loss of face” and “blame others” culture. They will NEVER admit when they screw up and will therefore also never learn or move forward. And It is deeply rooted in all classes of society. Even though the students and young generations are starting to look for change, they are still deep down affected and controlled by “Thai-ness”. And it is all due to upbringing and bad education, controlled from above. I know many so-called Thai Elites. Educated abroad and what you would consider to be “smart” people. However, they still lack the ability to be part of a critical and constructive discussion about their country. Their “lose face” concept is just overpowering their ability to be open-minded and express it. And that is why things will never really change much here. Which I somehow think is okay. Because very few Thais actually understand what e.g. true democracy is and what it requires of each individual person. The people who could make real changes will always be removed from power. That’s just how it is and most Thais accept that. Thais seem to be most content with a life as “followers”…. -
SURVEY: Will Thailand continue to be a favorable destination for retirees?

I have been coming yearly several times on holiday since 1989. Lived here full time since 2011 after a 7 year stretch in Vietnam. Overall I think Thailand is still a good country to retire to, but personally I am considering trying out Philippines for a couple of years, when Covid allows it. Maybe also a year in Belize. Want to try and see something new. Especially after this Covid period. Will still keep my stuff here, so will return after my new “adventure” is over. Basically I have no regrets moving here. Thailand offers a good relaxing lifestyle and is in my view still pretty cost-effective. For sure still beats my home-country, when it comes to the weather and a more relaxed life-style. And sure there are disadvantages, but same goes for all other places. -
Thai economy slows in July but stability still good - finance ministry
khunpa replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Reminds me of 2008 before the crash, when everyone said the economy was better than ever. And then one day we woke up to face the truth. Seems there is now new Covid variants which are resistant to vaccines. Something that indicates that Covid is likely to damage the economy (especially travel and tourism) far into the future. Many countries will properly close their borders tight to try to limit these new mutations from entering and spreading. Thailand will at some point have to face the facts. The tourists are not coming back for a long time. There will be no grand reopening soon and even if they open, most countries will make traveling here hard or even impossible. -
I find it amazing that these old guys in power even bothers to go to “work” every day. If me with all that money, I would retire and hire 20 super hot girls to entertain me. I am sure it would be way more fun and less risk of getting caught for corruption, hated or even killed. Why the hell even bother when he could be getting a 40-hands relaxing massage instead? Especially when he clearly even sucks at his job.

I don’t understand why the government does not focus only on 2 things: 1. Get everybody vaccinated with proper vaccines ASAP! 2. Focus on and provided financial support for domestic tourism and small businesses, to bring tourist areas and cities back to life. Nobody in their right mind will fly thousands of miles on holiday to a ghost-town where few people are vaccinated. They need to revive the now ghost-towns. And domestic tourism is the cheapest and fastest way to do it.

Heartbroken daughter desperate to fly bedridden dad home from Thailand
khunpa replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
In my home country many elders are sitting alone all day and only get a health care visit 2-3 times per week for a few hours. Some do not get to shower for days and sit in their own shxt for days. Getting old is also not a paradise for many back home. It sucks for most. -

We all as expats have an “end-game” and during our life we can all run into bad luck financially and health wise. Personally, I have no idea of what my end-game will be like, but could not imagine dying in my home-country, which I have been away from for so many years. I would hate ending up there… Could I end up like this guy? Sure we all could. Even the super healthy get sick and eventually die. All we can do is save as much money as possible…..Get a health insurance (if possible at old age) and hope for a quick easy death when the time comes. It sucks… but it’s life… That said I would never wish I had stayed in my “secure” home country. At least I lived the life I wanted when the time comes. -
Prepare for a spike, public health expert says, but don’t panic

No panic at all here. Got comfortable with the thought that I might die within 5-12 days every time I visit Makro because of no vaccine. If they can manage on death row, so can I ???? -
Phuket Sandbox is failing foreign tourists: tourism official
khunpa replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Look at the bright side. Thailand might one day wake up and realize it’s financially <deleted> for years to come. At that point they might get the idea to make it much easier for foreigners to come and stay long term. Sometimes it takes a good amount of suffering, before people wake up and face the facts. With 2/3 of all shops and businesses closed or in big financial trouble, we might be getting to the tipping-point. -
No COVID-19 South African C.1.2 variant in Thailand…yet
khunpa replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Might as well face it. This is going to be a never ending cycle of new stronger mutations being more resistant to vaccines and a constant flow of booster shots. The way the entire world handled this pandemic (all only thinking about themselves) the virus has won the race. With the slow and uneven rollout of vaccines around the world, by the time you get vaccinated a new strain will be ready to ensure you need a booster shot to hopefully survive an infection. And we will ALL end up getting infected several times. The rich countries think they are safe now. Just wait and let the virus do it’s thing in the poor countries. -

If me I would focus on domestic tourism to get Phuket and the other tourist destinations back to life. E.g. Offer cheap holiday packages with a free covid test and vacation before arrival. Then offer the last vaccination on site before returning back home. Once you have domestic tourism running, you then open up to foreigners and it will be a more “normal” holiday experience. Of course this would require Government investment, but it would be worth it in the long run. -
Lawyer who leaked Joe Ferrari tape sued for defamation
khunpa replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Hmm… let me try to make some common sense out of this…. So a guy releases a video of a killing and he is in the wrong for making the murderer and police force “lose face”. It does not make sense! Ohh wait it’s happening in Thailand, where you can kill, lie and steal as long as you do not get caught in the act and publicly “lose face”. Now it makes sense! What a <deleted> up way of thinking! -
England adds Thailand and Montenegro to travel red list
khunpa replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Don’t worry. You can be sure there will be an announcement next week of millions of other tourists coming soon. All spending billions of THB daily. For sure TAT will come up with something. -
What a bunch of ANIMALS! And they call themselves Buddhists. What a disgrace they are to anything civilized and human. And of course all it is about now, is not losing face, because they got exposed. And it is back to the… “we are sorry and here is some money for victims family” A VERY sick culture were doing a crime is okay as long as you do not get caught and “lose face”.
