  1. It happens. A German friend of mine experienced, as he put it, the worst day of his life. His wallet with money and cards was stolen from his back pocket at swampy as he was leaving to return home, he still had his passport and air ticket but that was all. To make matters worse he had contacted an STD which was staining his white trousers with a yellow patch. He had a fever, was tired and had a hangover. The most immediate problem however was he didn't have the 500 Baht to pay the departure tax as it was then (about 20 years ago). In desperation he walked into a bank to see if he could get a small loan on the strength of his passport alone, this wasn't possible of course but the 40 year old male bank teller upon hearing his story took pity on him especially when my friend promised to transfer 10 times that amount to the Thai man's bank account when he was back in Germany, the bank teller lent him the 500 Baht and my friend was true to his word.
  2. It won't affect tourist couples because police will only act on a complaint to them from a relative of the couple, so it's unlikely to affect anybody at all.
  3. There are plenty of wives banning it inside marriage as well
  4. For me that is normal, often it takes 24 hours, German bank- Bangkok bank, Wise is fast enough for me.
  5. Be thankful, we are still better off than being in Europe at the moment and the UK is in a right mess. I read that a top notch German restaurant near the Black Forest has had to take its traditional Christmas dinner, a top favourate, of goose off the menu because it has become unaffordable even for the well heeled. The reports there of electric bills doubling and people being afraid to heat their homes makes our situation look easy.
  6. I had my second visit around two years ago. A van turned up with 5, FIVE, officers, they were apologetic and pi**ed off that they had to drive around the countryside in the heat instead of staying in their air-con office, big boss had ordered a check on all falangs in his area. What surprised me was what they knew about me. I have been here 17 years and raised two stepdaughters, the oldest is married to a car repair man who has his workshop on the edge of our village, they drove there first in order to get my stepdaughter to guide them to my house (house numbers are not in numerical order) She is rather feisty and told them to line up first so she could take a picture of them and then photographed the vans number plate before guiding them to me. One officer said to me, "I wouldn't like to annoy her" to which I replied, "Tell me about it, she's been that way since she was 5 years old." Where they knew about my stepdaughter eludes me.
  7. It was suicide........what!.....oh....no wait we'll get to the bottom of it.
  8. I saw an evil spirit once but I had made the mistake of saying my ex= wife's name out loud in the dark.
  9. Obviously a Mercedes design flaw not taking a Thai driver and power poles into consideration.
  10. The British people got through it all with binge drinking and street drugs, they haven't stopped since then. No British government has ever been keen to do anything for its citizens, why start now, the EU regulations must have been a thorn in their sides.
  11. I thought my life was complicated.......no it's not, not really, not like this.
  12. My 15 year old son British/Thai born in Thailand with all the accompanying documents is on the chanod of two houses with his mothers name as co-owner.
  13. I couldn't help laughing, adding insult to injury by stealing his watch, maybe he could get fined as well for 'procurement.' No doubt he won't see the funny side of it while weeping on his curry, as far as he is concerned Pattaya is a pain in the rrrrrs
  14. I don't know if it still exists but some years ago a German citizen who commits a crime abroad and is charged for it in that country will face the same charges in a German court of law once they return home.
