  1. Rather stupid of him, does he think now all will be forgotten and he can keep the car? They know where he lives so now the police will come along next time and his loss of face will be even greater. The thought processes of some people is astonishing.

    Elder care at home

I can't really help with concrete info but some years ago an English friend put out a local newspaper ad looking for a retired nurse to look after his father, live in with food provided and a small wage, he found a 50 year old who did a good job and became like a family member, these days you could do it online. I don't have anymore info than that, worth a try.
  3. Chimerivax, it is undergoing phase two of the Thai trials.
  4. We just went to the village clinic, it's free for the village inhabitants, including me, but they have run out of stock, there has been a rush to get injected since dengue has been in the news. I've used the clinic several times for free in the past for small things, sprained ankle, a deep cut that needed stitches and a burnt hand when cooking oil caught fire but it surprised me that I could get this injection for free.
  5. I've just googled it, dengvaxia is only 65% effective and yes each subsequent infection is worse than the proceeding one, the 3rd infection usually produces massive internal bleeding and liver damage. There is a new better vaccine from France but it looks rather expensive, I shall ask my insurance if they will pay for it.
  6. I would only trust experts on dengue. When my symptoms first appeared, red spots on my skin, lack of appetite, tiredness and feeling dizzy, I went to a local doctor who said I had a sun allergy (hence the red spots) and I was dizzy because I was old (63 at the time) I distrusted him and drove to a private hospital who first tested my blood and urine, half an hour after the lab report the doctor told me I was an emergency admission as I was going into shock.
  7. completely wrong, the body produces no immunity to dengue.
  8. Any idea what this costs?
  9. A German colleague of mine (42 years old) was sent to Thailand as a rep, he had dengue twice, one year apart. The first time was relatively benign as in my case, the second time he had to have, like you, a complete blood transfusion and fell into a coma for two days. After a two week spell in hospital the head doctor in a private hospital in BKK told him to return to Germany and never come to Asia again as a third infection would kill him. He was given a medical report to this effect so that his company had to withdraw him.
  10. I wouldn't take aspirin for dengue, it's a blood thinner and you are bleeding internally as it is, I was answering a post that implied you couldn't buy aspirin in Thailand and of course you can.
  11. No, but despite my body going into shock the doctor told me I had the milder form of dengue; I was also told that any subsequent infection would be worse than the first, the body doesn't build any resistance to it but is somehow weakened by it, 3 or 4 further infections results in death.
  12. I've been hospitalized for dengue fever, there is no cure, all the doctors can do is to support the body's vital functions and hope for the best. I was woken every two hours and given a pill and blood was taken for the lab. It was the worst illness that I had ever had, after 4 days I was released from hospital but it took me 6 weeks to recover my normal vitality.
  13. every chemist and most supermarkets that have a medicine unit
  14. lower legs could refer to below the knees.
  15. That actually has happened in both America and the UK but I was talking more about the number of rules and regulations being rolled out every day and the speech masters (you can't say that), it's difficult to keep abreast of what you can and can't do (don't even start on the traffic rules). As an example;- I took early retirement in Germany at the age of 57, my company would pay me 90% of my salary for 2 years when I left their employment. I went to my tax office to inform them of my new address in Thailand. I was told that I can't do that, I pay tax in Germany so I have to have a German address. I told her she can't keep me a prisoner in Germany because of her rule book and that my company will still deduct tax from my salary where ever I live. She got all confused and apologetic but the fact remained, I must have a German address. In the end she suggested that I register an address with a friend, which I did, and she wouldn't make any waves. I told her that my German bank knew my real address in Thailand, could this cause problems, she had to consult with her manager first. another round of discussions ensued where they decided to turn a blind eye regarding the bank (all duly noted down) but it would be better if my company registered me as having the German address and not the Thai one......just in case.
  16. Freedom from the complexity and demands of an increasingly interfering state in farang land, by comparison Thailand is an exercise in the lightness of being.
  17. perhaps they meant unireingly drowned.
  18. The only reason the vociferous 'woke' mob has any success is because most people care about the opinions of others. The ancient Greek philosopher Diogenese taught a philosophy concerning the art of not giving a sh**. I definitely ascribe to this, the woke mob can lick me where the sun doesn't shine.
  19. It's 'watch' money for someone.
  20. They also used to call them 'hansom man'
  21. ACRO costs 55 pounds
  22. Nowhere is perfect, no marriage is bliss and no friendship is without problems, the most beautiful piece of art will find its detractors. In a way the observer becomes the subject of observation because you can turn it into what you will, no situation has an absolute truth and no behaviour is without its own specific reason. Both the optimist and pessimist have had to undergo a long journey to become what they are, they had no choice of the outcome because nobody can avoid the hand of causality, life is a continual series of causal events. While I disliked England, even as a child, and left never to return as soon as I was able, there is a majority who love their place of birth, where they heaped praise I heaped scorn, neither deserved merit. I considered Germany my true home for 37 years, of course it had its faults but unlike those of England I chose to oversee them because the positives outweighed the negatives; the same thing is true of Thailand, I've been here 19 years now and while many wouldn't be seen dead in Isaan I revel in it, all a matter of perspective. The lack of large numbers of foreigners has allowed them to keep their identity whereas in the large tourist centers they are lost, it is here that greed and envy with all the accompanying troubles will occur and the falang will fan the flames through ignorance and their own brand of arrogance and racism that they accuse the Thais of. That is all I can say on the subject.
  23. What a horrible way to live, if you are negative and suspicious all the time that is what you will get back, you make your own reality, how you see the world will be the way it will manifest. You collapse the wave function to negative when before it was in a super position and could have been anything at all, you chose 'bad'.
  24. I have to wonder why you live here, I wouldn't stay in a country if I didn't like the people.
  25. that's a very broad paint brush you are using.
