  1. <script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

so the TV tweet about it being NOK AIR and THAI AIRASIA was Bolllox as to be expected alt=facepalm.gif>

RT @ChadapornLin: Nok Air plane clips Air Asia's plane while landing at Nakhon Si Thammarat airport causing damage to wing; 170 passengers safe

    Nok is Bird

Nok = Bird. Wonder what the correct story is.

No kidding? ...that would explain the odd design on the nose of those planes. Always wondered why it looked a bit like a bird.

  2. I once asked an officially licensed Thai tour guide who the first king of Ayutthaya was, in what year the former capital fell to the Burmese, and where in Thonburi King Taksin the Great set up his new palace after he'd having driven out the Burmese.

The guide got all three answers wrong - and I didn't even ask him in Mandarin, but in his own mother tongue.

On another occasion, in Chiang Rai, I eavesdropped on a Thai tour guide speaking German to a family of four, trying to explain to them the artistic significance of that white temple (can't remember its name). His German was so garbled and incomprehensible that I could see the agony in the eyes of the family. They were probably asking themselves, "Why oh why can't we have a native German-speaking guide for our good money?"

They walked away from that magnificent temple compound not one iota wiser as to its significance.

    .

After his pathetically incompetent performance the guide then probably took the family to some jewelry or silk store nearby that "has a government promotion ONLY TODAY!", where they could at least find some solace in the false assumption that they could get a fantastic bargain.

So you were just trying to be a smartarse asking questions that you knew the answers to because you had swotted-up on them?

"After his pathetically incompetent performance the guide then probably took the family to some jewelry or silk store nearby that "has a government promotion ONLY TODAY!", where they could at least find some solace in the false assumption that they could get a fantastic bargain."

No unfounded, Thai-bashing speculation in that statement then.

  3. This is a brushover .....the volume of hi-end vehicles bought into Thailand...whether in bits or full units, still pass through undetected....and NO!!...I don't have any further proof of this....but as we all know, it continues.

A few beat up Hiluxes and Nissans is hardly breaking news!

"....and NO!!...I don't have any further proof of this....but as we all know, it continues."

Well, you seem to know, but you speak for yourself and your own speculation. I don't think there were any "beat up" vehicles there, from what was shown they seemed to be in good nick

  4. We should all be very grateful that Thai Visa clearly has so many experienced bankers amongst it's members. The varying information provided on the international banking system is invaluable.

The bottom line is that those are the charges made by banks doing international transfers and the only way to avoid them is to not do the transfers. If you want to make use of the banking system (which costs banks money to operate) then expect to pay for it, to expect otherwise is just daft. No commercial business anywhere provides services without charge, banks or not.

  5. i would take another step,i would like to see a ''stop and frisk','police on thais and foriengers...call it ''profileing'' call it racism, call it what you want..it works..

Usually, the "stop and frisk" results in your wallet being handed back to you, empty.

You could call it "profiling" or "racism" but many times it's simply called, "robbery." smile.png

"Usually, the "stop and frisk" results in your wallet being handed back to you, empty."

Your nonsense really is never ending.

great dragnet / swoopnet" operation boys lol...but do be careful not to net any dolfins pleez.

    "nigerians? i see one."

Well done, that's because th report stated that there was only one.

Maybe the bigger fish have valid visas.

  7. 2 grams of "ice" is approximately 500 Baht.

This guy just threw his life away.

    Drugs destroy lives.

Why do so many people need drugs nowadays? Is life that bad?

So all in all, this drug suppression raid was a brilliant success. They seized somewhere in the region of 750 baht's worth of drugs... I remember back in about 2004 watching a guy selling cannabis on the the beach at Lamai. Once he'd sold his little pack (500 baht) the police jumped out from behind and arrested the buyer. The seller would run back, get his little bag of Cannabis back together with a 200 baht reward and they'd start again. I wonder if this kind of entrapment is classed as a "suppression operation"?

"So all in all, this drug suppression raid was a brilliant success. They seized somewhere in the region of 750 baht's worth of drugs..."

In this case the amount of drugs is irrelevant, 3 dealers/users were arrested and are now off the streets.

  8. Ride quality is achieved by a combination of suspension and tyre sidewall flex or just suspension in the case of rides with very little tyre sidewall.

On a truck the tyre sidewall is a part of suspension and ride quality. I have experimented on my truck just to see the difference. Though 29psi is recommended on my 4x4, I settled for 30 rear, 32 front. thumbsup.gif

Did you notice a lot of difference in ride quality when you adjusted the pressures from 29 to 30psi?

  9. The drinking continued inside the room and they consumed copious amounts of Beer. One of the victims did notice that one of the women was placing something inside the cans of beer but it was too late and the two men were rendered unconscious.

if you see someone putting something in your drink then why drink it? It was never to late to refuse to drink it.

They probably hadn't noticed the previous cans being spiked, that was why it was too late.

  10. "If your tourist friend didn't want to pay a fine to the officer all he had to do was ask for a ticket which he could then pay at the police station and be given a receipt. As it is, by agreeing to pay a fine at the scene your pal was just as corrupt as the police officer."--MMalow

Hello Earth to MMalow----have you ever actually got a ticket, ?? Do you think you just get back onto your motorbike & say--yes officer I will pay this, the correct amount, down at the station. Too-da-loo........

How do you think you are going to get there MMalow ??----because its not on your motorbike. That stays where you have been stopped, even if its 10 miles from the police station. Make your own way there, and back....yes fighting corruption, It all sounds very good MMalow---to people who have not actually lived in the real world.

Yes, I have had more than one ticket that I have paid at police stations. The way it works is the police take your licence and keep it until you pay the fine at the police station. And regardless of what your uninformed opinion is, yes they do let you drive away. If you don't have a licence and you refuse to pay the unofficial on-the-spot fine you will be arrested. Simple as that, bit like you.

  11. So every Gogo bar and beer bar in Pattaya will be closed now since prostitution is illegal?

Corruption and bribery keeps most Pattaya businesses open. I guess Pattaya is closed now?....

Dancing or working in a go-go bar or beer bar is not prostitution.

You won't find many girls working in those places they do not practice prostitution....

Amazingly, that is exactly why they are there. The big money is in the late night bumpity bump...not in drinks.

Amazingly, the point is that they are not prostituting themselves in the bars, that may or may not happen later.

I'm aware of that convenient loophole but it goes without saying that the bars are an intentional space to facilitate the meeting of prostitutes with customers. At the very least it is aiding and abetting. Every cop is knowingly allowing a criminal activity to go on by allowing these venues to operate.

Pattaya exists on a foundation of corruption. Without corruption there would be no Pattaya in the form that it takes.

"Every cop is knowingly allowing a criminal activity to go on by allowing these venues to operate."

Go on then, what's the criminal offence that is being committed in these venues? Meeting a prostitute certainly is not an offence and "aiding and abetting", aiding and abetting what?

  13. "The journals also revealed that up until now, 44 Korean and three American patients have been blinded by the injections, while Thailand has confirmed that eight patients have been blinded, with only one patient cured."

Still, curing blindness even only once is fairly impressive.

The blindness wasn't cured, eight patients were blinded and one was successfully treated for the effects of the filler, therefore avoiding blindness.
