If you lived in Mexico, are you going to eat Mexican food or some dish from South Africa?
OF COURSE! you're are going to date people from your host country as well as assimilate in the host culture.
Besides, I've found Thai women to be carrying less excess baggage.

All three denied the drug belonged to them.
People need to read that carefully before commenting like "they deserve it!"

RIP Hong Konger!
I'm in Hong Kong now.
I now men like their brew and like to drink with others but seldom do they drink alone, much less 24 cans.

You are a man right?
highly unlikely
Just because some people sit around all day drinking piss and expect their wife to do everything doesnt include me
A little more swagger when you are being a man. Cursing can be very butch. You should try it.
I agree with this statement.
I'd also like to add that a good back hand, knuckle side, once in a while will put her in her place!
Be a man!
Even James Bond silly slapped his ho once..........From Russia with Love................She LOVED him for it!

Gone are the days when we socialized more with people which included going up to the window and interfacing with a teller and not a machine.
Not that I don't enjoy technology and all it offers, I sometimes wonder if our youth these days have EVER in their life waited in line and did their transactions with the teller.
If we went back to doing this (besides the fact of losing time in lines and parking and such) things like this (scams) would not be happening.
LONG LIVE BANK TELLERS!

Why is it always the bald headed dudes with tattoos?
Signalers of criminals?

Can we also "God Bless" Japanese girls, one in all who work in Snack Clubs, busy patting one's ego?
How about Chinese girls? The working girls who sell their services?
Sounds about the same as Thai bar girls.
Did I hear a KAMPAI/GAMBEI/CHOK DEE!!

He seems to be holding onto the money pretty tight in the picture.
Perhaps he fears it'll disappear again.

I think your "friend" is actually a HE and not a SHE.
As soon as she gets home, the make-up comes off and the baritone voice comes on.
You = in big trouble

As an American citizen, I am so ashamed of my government. Please understand, this does not reflect the American peoples wishes. We continue to provide aid to countries who hate us, but go after our friends. Shame, shame, shame.
Exactly! As an American who left at the age of 28, lived in Asia for 25 yrs, I haven't looked back!
Who cares what Murika thinks. To hell with them.

How did you get to the border? I didn't see in your post.
Did you take a scooter?
-
Um, how are they going to target them?
Certainly they are not going to be parading around in Red Shirts at the border?

Slightly on a tangent, I remember when I first met her she wanted to go swimming in the hotel pool, but didn't have a swimming costume. She knew a shop, not far away and I bought her a bikini. Only 2500 baht. Such a nice a kind person that she is, that on the way back to the hotel, she went straight back to the shop to thank the owner. I love her I do.
2500 bt for a bikini? Dude, you were ripped.
Go into the tourist shops and they are around 300 bt BEFORE you talk them down.

" feel a little uncomfortable knowing she lives like this. I don't want to become a sponsor "
Well, instead of becoming a sponsor, you could buy her something she could use?
Maybe an AC or a fan?
Maybe a new mattress? Kitchen wares?
New scooter?
I have a girlfriend and she knows I cannot be her sponsor, but I do get her gifts that she can use and live with.
She appreciates that just as much.
I suspect, like most farrangs, you have a time share in a "girlfriend".
Nothing wrong with that.
Um, cough cough....actually two..........

A friend of mine changed his route yesterday on Friday. Instead holidays in Thailand he will take a flight at Suvarnabhumi right away to Vietnam.
i guess he is not the only one.
Yeah, because Vietnam's nice and quiet at the moment...not!
Yes, it might be said that right now, it's more dangerous to be in Vietnam than it is to be in Thailand !
Still, the buildings being burnt down are owned by mainland Chinese companies, and the ones being killed are Chinese workers in those companies. So you should be safe if you're from Europe. But the violence might spread out of control, some Taiwan companies in Vietnam have been attacked. And Singaporean companies are a bit worried.
Hey, Burma is 'safer' than Thailand and Vietnam !
Actually, they are not just Chinese companies and workers being attacked. There are also Taiwanese and Hong Kong companies there being attacked people being injured.
Anything with Chinese characters "MUST" be from China.
Surprised the young man in the pic didn't get behind the M60 for the photo op.

Just for clarification, is is absolutely necessary to have a return ticket, no matter the visa, no matter the kind of visa and no matter the length of stay?
I'm coming in from Hong Kong with a 60 day visa, then will be hired by a school for work......later to get a Work permit for teaching EFL with a one year contract.

I'd rather NOT be buried or cremated in the U.S., nor do I ever care to go back, dead or alive.
I'm fine where I am...........Asia!

My first and last Visa Van run, the van stopped at the border, we got out, went through immigration then used taxi's on the Malaysian side.
Hasn't it always been like this?

To the OP,
I just purchashed my Condo in Koh Samui last year in July.
Asking price was 1.4mil
I asked for 1.2mil and got it.
I paid it all off in cash within a week. The whole deal was through the Juristic manager. The owner was in BKK at the time.
Met the owner on contract signing day and found him to be a nice guy. Wants to put his kids through college in Australia.
I'm now in Hong Kong until summer time and currently renting my place out for the entire year. Juristic manager finds long term renters for me, so of course they get their hands in the cookie jar, but not that much.
It 's worth it because they find the renters and take care of my place as well as my scooter that I can leave in the underground parking.
So, next I come in, I'll just go out and rent some place between 2000 to 5000 bt per month and live off what is being deposited into my account from renting my place out.
In the end, it's not a bad investment at all.
I have no plans on selling it and of course, would only do so when housing cycle goes up, which historically it does.
I can make money off of it and I've already got my retirement home/condo paid for and waiting for me when I'm ready (now 51 yrs young).
Keep in mind, for every person who has purchased land or a condo, there are that many stories to go along with it. Some good, some bad, some frightening some great.
If someone say's, "why bother when you rent a place blah blah blah and move around the country blah blah blah......."
Keep in mind, that is THEIR life and not yours. Perhaps THEY already have real estate someplace else? They can only suggest and not judge you.
Good luck!

The main Hobbies among Farang i see here are drinking copious amounts of alcohol or picking up Totty.
Totty? What's a totty?
Is that a LBFM you find in South East Asia, Indonesia, Philippines, Central and South America?

Stay completely out of it
Why stay out of it when he doesn't have to?
This is completely misleading advice.
It is stipulated in the contract when purchasing/leasing a Condo to "keep the peace". If you don't, you are breaking one of the rules.
This is a justified reason to get the management involved.
He can even knock on the door as it is happening and ask "Is everything OK?"
He can call the police.
He can get other neighbors involved.
He can get the cleaning people involved.
Condo's have monthly or bi-annual meetings. Somebody would naturally bring it up.
No one should have to live with that crap and telling someone because it's not "Thai custom" to get involved is giving the wrong information.
Living in a Condo, which is a completely Western concept and invention means living under Western conventions. Keeping it clean, keeping it repaired and keeping the peace is all part of the deal.

Have you thought about using a FAN instead of AC?
My bills for a one bedroom/bathroom with open living room/kitchen was around 1600bt per month.
(Yes, I know, not much to some folks but I was not inside all day).
Bought a fan and got it down to 500 bt.
Yeah me!

OP didn't say whether any Thais were actually offended or complained.
If the restaurant owner wishes to apply a dress code in her establishment the OP could help her write an appropriate sign to that effect.
Non sense. Common sense is common sense and NOBODY should go shirtless in Tesco, Makro, BigC or any restaurant like that, period, although I have witnessed it.
You don't need a sign to tell you something you WOULD NOT DO in your own country.
The only reason why they do it is because they can get away with it and that's the shame in this whole affair.
