  1. Paid 100 baht last time from Nathon to Chaweng but that was after the last ferry and it was dark.

How did the conversation with the driver go exactly? Was it 'How much?' '100 baht' 'OK'?

100 baht phai Chaweng dai mai?

    Dai!

Don't want to get in a lengthy exchange of grammar or off topic, but my 200 hour course in Thai says its written and pronounced "bhai" as in buy or bye and not phai or p, but b.

    Yes?

  2. Very sad situation.

I had a situation, though not quite like yours. I was in Japan at the time.

There are many ways to show love towards your children and one of them is leaving the situation so that peace my ensue.

Later, when you can meet up again, explain it to him. I'm sure he'll understand after living with the crazy mom for years.

Not to worry. Life goes on.

  3. This seems to be the attitude not only in Thailand but in many places. People are not very concerned about others and their troubles. Not rite at all..Karma comes back to people very fast in Thailand I have noticed. Good or Bad....

    Exactly as you say it.

Has happened in Mainland China many times recently. Some of it making world news.

  4. HI Mole!

    Long time no see.

I'm back in Hong Kong for a short spell (I hope!)

    How's are baby boy doing?

I'm sure you're happy with such a well behaved creature?

I told you he was a good boy.

Again, thanks for your help on this.

I've got two dogs here to take care of.

    Cheers,

    MM

  5. "So according to the OP there is only one tesco in khon khen."

Eight that I can remember. Think there might be more.

    Were you there? NO

So, close it..........nothing of substance to say.

I understand where you are coming from, OP.

In most countries, we are a minority and very very unorganized compared to other nationalities who set up in our home countries.

They set up their own businesses, banks, TV and Radio stations and communities.

I think what you were looking for was a bit of comradery (sp?) or friendliness from your fellow Farang. Some recognition.

In smaller areas and towns, you can get that but I would not expect it in the bigger cities because we are just a dime a dozen.

I usually just do a simple nod of the head and walk on.

If I've got a question to ask, I don't hesitate to do so and start some small talk.

    Cheer up!

  6. Wow, just put your recycling in a bag next to one of the green bins.

    You mentioned "green bins".

    So, next question would be........Where?

    Where are these green bins?

    Thank you.

They are all over the island. They are mostly provided by the government for the use of people who PAY for garbage collecting. (This seems to be a strange concept to a lot of people.) Some individuals buy their own bin. (I did - and I pay for all of the houses that I manage.)

They are green in colour - not concept!

If you place your items to be recycled by one- the scavengers will come and take them away. If the scavengers don't - the garbos will and then recycle it themselves.

    Thank you for your reply.

Will be on the look out for those.........

When I was living in Japan, they had a solution, though complex or not, I do not know.

They burn their trash, which is usually located near the public swimming pools, thereby heating up the water for free. Makes sense.

If I remember correctly. You must buy your plastic bags from the supermarket:

    Moeru-burnable-red bags (usual trash)

Moerunai-unburnable-yellow bags (like your iron or pots and pans, tins, cans, foil)

    Organic-green bags (unfinished food scraps)

They are way way ahead of the game.

  7. I am quite surprised Samui has a Lion Dance.

I live in a village in Hong Kong for 8 years (yes, now in Samui) and we have the Lion Dance that comes door to door.

The deal is, the performers are usually, if not always, Kung <deleted> practitioners, with the lead being the Master of the Kung <deleted> school.

I have not noticed any Kung <deleted> dojo's (nor Japanese for that matter) in Samui except for Muay Thai and Tai Kwan Do.

    What gives?

  9. If a change in needed from Thai food, Babu's India Hot restaurant on Maenam resort road, still consistently good with his Indian food...thumbsup.gif

It's just about opposite the new turquoise blue green hotel being built!

Eat in or free Home or hotel delivery... drop by for a delivery menu!

    They also rent motor bikes!

Sounds like a place worth visiting when spending a few days in Maenam.

Which end of Maenam is it located at?

We're staying near this spot if that helps.

Me too, I'm trying to find it as well. Maybe a bit more direction? Thankx!

  10. "We used a company that ended in Nathon, but i actually can't recall if it started out in Nathon, but i think so.

Was very pleased with that tour, and the guide we had was absolutely great.

Here is a picture of the boat we used, maybe that is the companys name.

The boat is not very fast, but we enjoyed the time sailing out to Ang Thong."

You wouldn't have the ferry/boat price for that tour, would you by any chance?

  11. Sorry for necromansing this thread..........

I too am a Condo owner and in the past 6 months I've been here, there have been NO meetings of any sort.

Matter of fact, there has been no information as to where and how our maintenance fees are being spent.

We've also had painters come in and out, painting the outside. There has been no notice posted anywhere about this.

We've got both renters and owners here and I'm sure all of us would like to know what is going on around here.

Lastly, Juristic manager is using the complex to rent vehicles as a side business. Is this legal?

Could someone please provide me with any links to our rights within Thailand?

    Thank you for your help

  12. I was walking up my street back to the pad late last night and heard some rumbling noises from some bushes on the side of the road.

Suddenly, the strange creature darted out in front of me.

Now sure what it is. Could someone kindly identify it for me?

I would suggest clicking it for it's full size for better judgement..................
