  1. Thanks GU22 for your info.

However if the house is rented from the Local Council they will only give a Tenancy Agreement is that sufficient?

The property is rented by my Mother and has been the family home for 22 years is that ok? There is ample space 3 bedrooms, only one occupied by my Mother. Will it be acceptable when I have a wife, myself and our soon tobe born Child is will 3 Adults and a child be to many people for a 3 bedroomed house?

I want to know as then I will rent a house or apartment if they might refuse.

Thanks GU22 you seem to be on here alot, your knowledge is much welcomed and anyone else who may know please feel free to add!

    Thanks

  2. Hiya all (Scouse)!

So closer by day before I comeback. :D

I have decided to stay in a family home which is rented from the local council when my fiance comes to England.

    * Do I need a tenancy agreement?

    * Will the local council expect me to declare it and will they have any rules and regulations against us staying, it is a family home with enough rooms etc.

    * What information, documents will I need?

Thanks again all. The beers on the wedding day are on me in the Irish Pub, Bangkok, patpong, I am true to my word so remind me and the bell ringer will be me!

Guess that even if people put their businesses up for sale no one would be interested in buying!

I am sure anyone who previously wanted to set-up a business on Phuket will wait at least a year to look for proper signs of a recovery.

My friend from Hua Hin (who lost his bar there to a Thai "lady") was down in Phuket about a month ago, looking for a business. He said that anything that was up for sale was extremely expensive !! I have read before that Thais are extremely to take a loss on any sort of deal, but you would think what with the situation there now, that there would be some bargains around??

There are far too many negatives out there ! Take my word Phuket will be MASSIVE in the next couple of years, the next high season will be no different from the last high season (prior to 26/12 of course).

The LT is looking even more rosy. Thousands of rooms have been lost in the surrounding areas, Kaolak, Pi-Pi making up the core of them, these are the places that will suffer in the LT and who will pick up all that lost business ? Yes, Phuket !!

This is why Thais in Phuket are not rushing to sell there business's, particularly resorts, they know that they dont need to take a loss. Although at present there is an over supply against demand this will be quite the reverse in the LT.

People expecting a drop in prices will be in for a surprise, as we are already seeing. The fact is it will (and should) continue to be the opposite !! :o

I hope you get what you presume, however a disaster that was so Globally Reported will have devastating effects to any local or national economy. Have a look at other disaster areas in the past that have suffered and you will see a sharp, longterm decline in tourism and business opportunity.

I am glad to see your optimism, the future will hold the key to the success of all businesses worldwide effected by this terrible disaster.

Goodluck to all those who are recovering and I hope it is a bright future for all.

  4. The tourists from Hong Kong aren't going to Phuket due to what they tell me are ghosts.

Don't laugh, for those of you unaware with chinese culture, this place is now considered a graveyard and it will take years for them to return enmass.

Not just the Chinese... my Thai friends and work colleagues also tell me that they would never visit Phuket because of the "pee".

    :D

On a similar line, I asked my Fiance "why she was not eating fish no more", as she loves it, as anyone knows Thais love plau. She replied "because of all the people in the sea in phuket, the fish eat the people, so they were no good. I think this indicates the general everyday fear in certain Thai people. However I promptly explained to her how crazy her thoughts were and asked who had told her this, she replied "Mare". :o

  5. Hiya all wanted to get a good list together of GOOD NIGHTCLUBS in Bangkok.  I know a few but want to get you lot to put a list together for me to make it easy.  Please do not add rubbish sleazy ones.  I would like good house music or dance venues.

    :o

More is better, as my Granny used to say! She was referring to Yorkshire puddings by the way...before I get snappy replies! :D

  6. have you thought about the cost of delivery, maternity and monthly checkups in UK?

If Lopburiguy's g/f enters the UK on either a fiancée or spouse visa she will be entitled to free NHS treatment.

    Scouse.

Hi Scouse, thats one thing the UK does do for free! I think its about the only thing and it isnt doing it very well! I hope they dont have a waiting listy at the door when the baby is due...

So are my chances quite low? Maybe a question that cannot be answered, howver it soon will.

The place of "Love" sounds all luvvvy Mattnich! Come on then I will have a look!

    Thanks All :o

  7. Hiya chaps

a little more on the visa thingy again! Just for a change...

Are 3 months wage slips and bank details sufficient as I have lived out of the UK so long and have just returned to work. I would love my "soon tobe wife" to be here with me, which is understandable, sooner rather than later. I have all the contact info, letters, calls etc. Will I stand a chance?

Also are there any reputable agencies or solicitors I could use to gold plate the application or are they a waste of time? I understand the visa application quite indepth and have built up a good file. However will an agency benefit my girlfriend, as in interview techniques etc?

    Any comments welcomed. Thanks :o

  8. I rate Narcissus for its amazing selection of tunes, the sound system and the venue itself.  It really is unbelievable.  It's only busy on weekends though, and not an especially friendly crowd...quite aloof mafia-types with money are often present. Substances definitely obvious too.

Zantika's cool with an older crowd, not many freelancers visible.  Music is VERY loud though and alternates between a rock band and dance/hip hop tunes.

For chill-out try Distil and Sirocco at the State Tower (expensive and no dancefloor) or Cafe Democ, Hu'u, Bed (left side room).

For the benefit of others here it the link for Cafe Democ and many others...Enjoy...

  9. So what about mellow style places for house music with a more chilled out feel. You know like setees and all that stuff I have been to Mystique etc and went to Balcony bar, but where are they all hidden?

I like sometimes to chill in a club envirnment. :o

  10. Only kidding Sateef, might be good if you like that sort of thing, as for the insomnia thats probably off the crazy people you meet in Nana!

However I may pop in on a drunken night out, who knows!

  11. As always in Thailand a case flitters from one lie to the next when it involves a policeman in the wrong. However it is unusual that the policeman is even brought before the courts as many people would have not come forward to give his name in fear of reprecussions.

When will Thailand learn that these cases bring International attention.

  12. Heres a few hUsh, the first one being good fun as I wnet a dance my scoks off not so long ago.

The Salsa Club:Address: Pathumwan Princess Hotel MBK Shopping Center

    444 Phayathai Road, Pathumwan, Bangkok

The Salsa Club provides the ultimate Latin experience in Bangkok, with delicious food, appetising drinks, exotic Latin flavors, and hot dancing and live entertainment. The club brings together all concepts that are Latin under one roof: a dash of spice, plenty of rhythms, exotic dance steps, refreshing Latin-Thai culinary flavors, and lots of style.

    Tapas Music Club:

Tapas is a refreshing club with music, dancing and rhythms ranging from salsa to jazzy house and disco beats. Its top floor has a more relaxed Garage/House vibe and its bottom floor has a Deep House for dancing. Tapas is a good option for those tired of poppy techno/trance. It opens daily from 7.00 pm to 3.00 am.

Address: 114/17 Silom Soi 4, Saladaeng, Bangkok

    QUE PASA

    Located at Silom Soi 4

Tiny Tex Mex Tijuana style border bar on Silom Soi 4.

Latin and western dance , pop CDs, that maintains a good

times groove. Every square inch is for dancing in, with little

room to move. Forget the steps; just wiggle.

    BAR LATINO

RCA Road RCA Road Tel: 641 4169

Classic RCA theme pub. Ricky Martin and Lambada pop

from a Thai DJ. Thai drinking food from Siam Cafe.

Well, chilli is from Latin America.

    Salsa dance leader 8-9 PM.

hope that helps. They are not really classic latin, but offer a fun night out. I would like to hear of any good latin clubs playing less mainstream stuff if anyone knows?

    Ty

  13. Thanks for the input Mak, it seems to be a popular choice RCA. I think i will give it a go! *Dancing shoes ready for return!

Keep em coming please. Any ideas for a Hip Hop club.. Come on there must be more to Bangkok than this!

  14. Hiya Foxy...

heres a few that will keep you busy if you need them. Some you have to be quick before they all go, others register and get a set amount a month. However dont trust them if I were you I would just get the O2 Mobile package which offers bolt on messages for 10p per text.

In my honest opinion I have been back and forward to the UK and found that free internet messaging is so unreliable. Anyways give it ago.

  15. Hiya all

just a basic question on exchanging money. I want to know the best rate I can get in Thailand when exchanging GBP (sterling) cash. I have been a resident and have several bank accounts that give low rates on depositing cash (Bangkok Bank, Siam etc etc).

Please let me know of any method that allows me get a better interest rate when depositing or exchanging.

    Those Nung bahts add up!

    Ty all :o

  16. Sorry to blow the old trumpet towards the UK, butttttt, I would go back to Keswick, The Lakes, England to my dads cottage and mountain bike the rest of my days away in a cool mountain bike friendly climate!

I live in the Uk and Thailand so my passion for both countries is strong. I never forget my Thai girlfriend or family, but I also never forget the green fields of England.

However thats not going to happen hopefully... :o

  17. Well I've been here nearly five years and have checked out every place there is on a number of occasions:

Lucifers used to be my favourite a few years ago but, as someone has mentioned, it has become sleazy over the last year or so. And worse, they tend to play music that's now a few years old with little variation.

DDM is poorly DJ-ed and is a guesthouse/come disco, a concept that I can't ever see taking off.

The only quality place I have found that plays imported house/trance is Eeze on RCA. It's a small club so you will get to know the people though go there very quickly, and if you genuinely do like the music mentioned above, then this is your best option. I will be there next Saturday so can chat to you about this in person if you like.

Some of the clubs further along RCA are okay, though more expensive and the quality of the music can be variable.

For the benefit of a dimwit like myself, could you tell me the address of Eeze and RCA.

    Thanks :o
