Will the new version import the several hundred Book Marks that I have
in Opera?
The old version did not, which is why I canned it.
There is an issue on bookmarks with Firefox. it imports from IE if you choose. However it has a gliched in the system as all your bookmarks can be lost and you have to import from IE again losing those you saved on Firefox that were not on explorer!!!
If someone could advise on where and IF firefox has a save function for favourites on your comp. It has not saved my firefox bookmarks, where are they!!!!
Thanks all

hmmmmmm.....
it would seem alot easier to use this rather than bug people all the time!
Except getting to use someone elses skype account to call premium numbers (that you collect the proceeds on) is harder then using a mobile account (maybe not actually but you know what I mean)..
lol... yeah well you cant win em all, if you can win anything in this day and age!!!

2 of my mates trained to be LST's (Life support techs) in a simple 2 week course (Thiers was in Plymouth but these one in India and I think another in Oz or NZ).. That plus thier saftey / drop training and a medical and they are both working regularly now..
First jobs only 180 USD per day but already thats creeping up (200 I think 2nd or 3rd time away).. By year end they have been told they should be good for 250 per day..
Considering its a 2 week course I consider that pretty good for what has to be only semi skilled.. Phone call came in that LOADS were needed for S China / Vietnam the other day but these guys are both in with a crowd already.
Usually , it is one month or six week on board and then one month off and unpaid.
So it may be 100usd/day due to the unpaid month.
Well it seems alot more attractive than a Rousty job in the North Sea forever!!!!

Hiya all
Do not know about you guys and gals, but the grey icon box on AVG firewall used to go grey for no reason... I checked it out and what I found was not good. It seems to turn itself off from updating and loses its connection..why who knows.
I would not like to trust a firewall that does not update and seems to not respond! Heres a little link about it and many more if you google it.

Hiya All
I have my offshore survival, medical etc the reason I am asking these questions is to gain an insight into future plans, so all advice is relevant as I have an open mind and wish to gain a knowledgeable outlook on the oil industry. Not being from an Engineeriing background I am very thankful for all your comments and guidance.
Please dont pick on the Roustys to much as it could be me!!!! lol
Thanks all

Tytus - Whichever firewall you choose, make sure it is a bi-directional firewall (one which monitors not only incoming but also outgoing data).
Most cable and dsl modem/routers (as well as the Windows XP built-in firewall) only monitor incoming data. A good firewall, like ZoneAlarm not only monitors traffic both ways, but it is one of the few which also checks your "pre-approved" outgoing traffic against an encrypted profile, to insure the original "approved" program has not been modified by a virus or spyware.
Regardless of which software firewall you select, run the ShieldsUp and LeakTest here, to test your system for "holes". You may be suprised at the findings.
cheers
(PS - This subject has been discussed quite a bit in earlier threads. A quick check using the "Search" function at top of this page, will provide links to those threads.)
I agree Waldwolf
Monitoring traffic in and out is vitally important. Zonealarm offers good protection. After using Norton, AVG and others in the past a find Zonealram is the best. I have never had any problems with speed etc.
Zonealarm Suite is very good and offers a good alround package for protection.

You could have a tough time finding work offshore in GOT, unless you have a decade or so rig experience
I get resumes from the US & Austrailia quite often but it is just so much easier to hire Thais. Just send them on a good intensive english course and they are fine in a few months! Just wish there were more countries I could send them to!
Hiya Ian
Yeah I have just started at Entry level (roustabout) so I knew there would be problems. I am also training in Autocad at the moment, someone said it may help when I am on to open doors in other areas on the rig??? Whether this is true or not I dont know. It is all a learning curve as I was Teaching and working in construction before.
Well I am trying anyways, thats about all one can do!!! I feel that the closed shop forces are working against me. In your opinion would it be more worthwhile to train as a crane handler or something. I just really I am unclear on the best experience to gain. I would like to build upon gaining valid experience, so at leats i have a chance of a career path or at the least a little progression. I know it will be hard but I am eager and willing to take on the challenge, whatever it brings!!!
Thanks for all your replies.

Lopburi, I presume you spoke to Housing Dept about copy of tenancy agreement. Whist of course they do not have to give you a copy, they must provide one to your mother on request. There may be a small charge for photocopying. If you get no satifaction telephone legal department, as housing officers rarely understand. The rental agreement will state clearly who may reside in the property. Normally close relatives of the tenant.
Sorry i missed your post there!!! Blind as a bat! I have spoke to the housng Dept. They say they do not have a copy of the agreement and they have contacted their Legal Team and they have stated a Rent book is sufficient evidence. I think as you say I will contact the legal dept and hope for a better result.
Thanks Dragonman
Tell them that if they do not have a copy of the Agreement (probably missing with so many Local Government reorganisations) they should provide you with a copy of Council's policy on tenants. They must have a copy of a tenancy agreement now issued to new tenants showing current rules. I would like to know how they take people to court for having horses, or goats( I have dealt with such cases) in their flats, without tenancy agreements.
Hiya all
I do have an Email from the UK based embassy stating a letter and rent book are sufficient evidence, however Bangkok said no . I have a book from the local housing office with guidance of all the rules and it seems clear it would be fine to stay, upto the legal tenant.
However on the Tenancy agreement they state I have to contact legal advice to request a tenancy ageement and thats a 100 quid! Seems like more money in the pot!
Thanks all for your help
.
Any ideas thanks
Hi Lopburiguy. As I thought they have lost the agreement and it is doubtful if your mother could find her copy after this time. Better for her not to have one as there will be few restrictions. Personally I would forward the e-mail and the Housing Department booklet to the Embassy in Bangkok, recorded delivery, telling them this is all the Council will provide as they cannot provide proof of any Tenancy Agreement having existed. Put the onus on the Embassy by saying " I hope the enclosed information is sufficient for your purposes, however if not would you please advise me as soon as possible how you wish me to proceed".
Hi Dragonman
Yes I will forward the email and see what the reply is? differs everytime!!! lol
Anyways I have a little time to spare, which is lucky!!!
Thanks again for your helpful response.

Thanks both of you for your replies.
I have looked at both, one i know already if you have anymore please feel free to put them on here or PM me with them. I have so many oil rig sites it dam confusing!!!
Thanks again..

Prefer using Mozzila firefox myself, keeps most things at bay and has an option so only YOU can choose Activ Xs and file dowloads. IE is really horrid after using Mozzila.
give it a go, set up play and it is a better browser and more.

Enjoy

Could not see this on the list, however I am sure I will be corrected if I am wrong!!!

have not had many bad downloads ie. virus, fakes but try not to get exe. files, stick to winzip in my opinion.
Has a Pro version which I got fast as, turbospeed....enjoy

Just posted this on another thread about hotels:
"I usually find that the Prince on Petchaburi @ B700 for double occupancy (B600 single) is plenty good with swimming pool and unlimited breakfast buffet included. Also it is nice and clean, though some rooms are nicer than others. Check out your room before accepting. I think 6th and 7th are the better floors."
Very close to UK embassy and I see lots of families staying here. Somewhat quiet as it is set back off of Petchaburi a little. Not sure what they charge for children in room. Maybe they will even bargain a little, but never tried as I thought it was good value for the money in BKK (though more than half of what I paid monthly for nice 2 bedroom house in Mae Rim).
Don't know if they have website but here are their details:
Prince Hotel
1537/1 New Petchburi Road
Bangkok 10310
Tel: (02) 251 6171-6
Fax: (02) 251 3318
GM: Supon Bumroongsook
Thats all I could find on Prince Palace..

As for the holiday Mansion mentioned by Dragonman, I have this which is on Wireless road. Doubt you can get much closer than that...

Hi all
I once saw a terrible death by jumping in the UK. It is not a pretty sight as one can imagine. I could never undertsand the logic of jumpers, however it does come to me that these people have been pushed so far there is no return.
I once had a girlfriend who made me feel so wound up and angry that I could see it could force ones self to do something stupid in anger or when low, I just removed myself from the situation and realised how silly it was tobe in it in the first place (English girl by the way). However I am not a depressant and I do sympathise with those who are, I have seen it in family and friends it is a horrible illness.
My final point which people have touched on is why someone would jump rather than choose another method, maybe whisky and pills or something. Anyways all methods are a final cry for help or a final exit. My thought s go to his family and loved ones.
RIP

Is Hua Hin still the same nice little place that I remember it to be from 2 years ago, or is it true that it is now BIGGER than Phuket ( and more expensive )?
Since no one has replied yet, I'll have a go- It's growing alright but not so much that you'd notice since all the new housing estates tend to be on the periphery and off the main and side sois.
Drove by the Tesco Lotus and "Market Village" construction site a couple days ago and it looks like the 3rd floor is up, so it won't be too long now. It's shaping up to be a HUGE complex. Still, Hua Hin's nowhere near the size of a Phuket.
What specifically are you referring to when you ask if it's more expensive? Cost of living, land, 5 star hotels, bungalows, foodstuffs or? All in all, I would say Hua Hin is significantly less expensive but advancing all the time, like most other seaside resort towns.
I read that Hua Hin is the fastest growing city in Thailand. I first went there five years ago and even then talk of airports and progression on a big scale were common. The main street when I was there 7 weeks ago and the restaurant, bar areas have exploded in size with smaller sois opening new establishments. I only had a burger king so who knows about the price I cannot imagine a huge change.
I did notice the amout of building work on the outskrts and thought it was overwheming the way it is being thrown up at that speed. Hope the builders are good...
I still like Hau hin whether big or small it has some good memories.

Sometimes you just gotta do what ya gotta do!!! I work in a harsh environment, the North Sea to be precise. However after spending alongtime in Thailand I knew that making money was just a matter of time. Yes I could have saved all my pennys and held on, but how long for. No one is to blame, some people just want more money than others. That is freedom of choice.

no worries thanks for these, i shall get on the case asap
what offshore work exactly? comm diving/rov/... ?I know there is a big community in singapore, or are you specifically looking for Thai based companies only?
Hiya Lobin
I am looking for anywhere in Asia area for Drilling contracts (Driller), more so in the area of drilling maintenance etc. I am currently learning Autocad and hoping to develop my skills in that area. Its such a closed shop its annoying. Have contacted all the internet sites and companies I can, but they are not quickly to respond. For a growth area it seems like Africa have the only jobs available online.
goodluck hunting.

The drinks prices at the Londoner are really expensive!
They are on par with many places in Covent Garden, only the Londoner is a plastic "Weatherspoons" pub in a red light district in Bangkok.
They are so arrogant. Why would people pay such outragous prices (they do)?
Also Orileys and Irish Exchange on/near Silom road also charge crazy prices - although I have to admit they arent as tacky as the Londoner - which actually more closely resembles an American style bar. Its a far cry from a good British style pub.
You can drink in the Oriental for the same price as Londoner.
I have to admit that the sunday carvery at Londoner for 400B is reasonable value and the food is good.
O'Rileys on Siom is ok. I only go when the Happy hour is on!!! I am Cheap charlie!!!
It still is a nice place to pop into and meet friends. The prices in Bangkok in general will always continue to rise at Falang establishments....

Hi, yeah I updated some while ago and got the ZA Suite which is all in one and it runs well. Updates auto and certainly doesnt go grey or lose connections. I looked into it more and found AVG were in my opinion not the best choice.
