Driver had a screw loose...

It would be painful to watch. Abhisit is in a different weight class intellectually and diplomatically.
Yingluck would just look silly. No comment about the other in case I have the BIB at my door 5 am tomorrow.
That is one way to look at it. Abhisit looks and sounds the part, Mr Reasonable with a public school accent. But who/what is behind the expensive suit and the soft words? His schoolmates might have had good cause to call him "veggie"( in addition to the name play).

It is a continuation of a pattern of behaviour that has existed for decades. In recent times we have seen the senior customs official box the ears of a staff member of the airport ( for trying to screen him through security); also the former chief cop taking a gun onto a plane. This is the culture of those who see themselves as untouchable, above the law, accountable to no one.
The solution in this case should be simple: the sack. Won't happen because those above him have the same attitude.

Business must be great at this joint if they can afford to offend and effectively turn away this kind of customer. I see it all the time at Au Bon Pain ...they don't seem to have an issue with and nor should they , providing there is a spend ( and the prospect of a repeat customer).
What gets up my nose is the solo customer who thinks it's appropriate to make 'phone calls , sometimes even on speaker, that everyone else has to hear ( usually farang)

Like on the plane? Brace! Brace! Brace!

The issue here is not so much the veracity of her claims, or in this case the falsity, but the fact that so many people believe that it could have been possible, even plausible for someone in power to have done such a thing. That has nothing to do with military or civilian govt but more the deep and abiding suspicion that anyone could be on the take. That's a sad thing.
-
I don't give a sh-t about Thainess or the roti seller. There's something about this translator story that doesn't make sense.
No matter what the issue is, if it doesn't fit with your version of 'the truth' you reject out of hand. What possible motive would an interpreter have for making up a story about being warned off. It DOES have a ring of truth, all things considered.

Your rare books are sitting in a dump somewhere. What to do? of course...set up a committee to discuss the problem.

The expression on his face is pure gold , similar but better than my own in that situation.

"The procurements were carried out between 2012 and 2014,"
He said the DSI had found that specifications had been laid down in a way that looked set to block out domestic manufacturers.
"The equipment procured was finally overpriced, about four to five times higher than the original price declared by the importing supplier," Pong-in said.
He said evidence suggested that some firms were hired to tender bids, only for price comparisons.
This looks like corruption to me. This happened when PM Yingluck was taking care of the 'little people'. Wasn't the
YingluckThaksin administration always going on about being for the people and and how they were corruption fighters? Now we know that smile of hers was because she was playing everyone who believed in her for fools. But as you very well know, this issue is endemic and is no better or worse regardless of the politics. It will continue to tear away at the fabric of Thai society and ultimately destroy the economy....it's well on the way to doing that now.
If the General is serious, let's see some action about corporate corruption in addition to these civil servants, chickenfeed by comparison with the big boys

Why all this focus on Greece. The story for Thailand is what's happening in China...pretty scary and of far greater relevance

Pathetic posturing at the worst possible time. Either they don't understand that everyone else will see this for what it is: a toothless, de-clawed cat's paw of China. Or they don't care. Woeful judgement by the junta.

While he's no angel ( that could hardly be expected given the details of his childhood), he deserves another chance . I support the thrust of these laws but they have to be tempered with some compassion and to allow for circumstances such as these.

So how long until the current Australian government changes to one that will be ready to join this wonderful international movement of furthering LGBT basic civil rights by including them in the choice of marriage?
If the private member's bill is unsuccessful this year, the real change will come in the first year of the incoming govt ( 2016). If the conservatives get back, they will feel confident enough to allow a conscience vote; if Labour wins they will do the same thing.
The private bill is being proposed by 2 conservative (govt) members and seconded by Labour. On a free vote it would be successful but both parties are fearful of backlash in conservative rural areas ( they have the potential to determine the outcome of the next elections)

I am more than a 'straight' man. All my life I've been strictly a 'lesbian'.
On the other hand I have no objections to people with different tastes or as they call it 'sexual orientation'.
What really pisses me off in all these bitter fights between gays, lesbians and straight groups is the following:
1) Nobody cares who one has sex with. Thus gays, lesbians and heterosexuals have the same civil rights and obligations.
2) Marriage is only for those who potentially can reproduce - ensure continuation of the species - thus it is available only to heterosexuals. As dictated by God, Nature or both. With condolences to all other groups.
3) Any Judge in Australia following in steps with USA Supreme Court in my books is an unnatural cross between a Frankenstein and an Alien.
4) I do not care what kind of a fruit is American Ambassador Berry, - see point 1). But his comments on the way the Australians will debate this issue is a transparent biased and improper attempt to interfere with our sovereign rights.
Prime Minister Tony Abbott should ask him to pack up and go back where he's come from. Diplomatic protocols are not entirely depending on who one has sex with, - again see point 1).
In fairness to the Ambassador, he did not in any way push the gay marriage issue. The interview was broadcast on Radio National and covered many topics. He was at pains to point out that gay marriage was strictly an issue for Australians to contemplate and that he did not have a view about it ( other than discussing the death of his partner and his subsequent marriage to his current partner).
The interviewer tried to push him for a comment about Australia but he was not buying into the discussion.

Before meters and the BTS, every single trip had to be a negotiation over the fare....a complete pain but usually if not always, good natured haggling. It's only in the last 15 or 20 years that the element of menace has crept in.

One assumes the drugs were for her own use.
But as another poster said, the glass ceiling was shattered so someone had to pay.
And especially as that someone was a foreigner!
Posted the package to herself, disguised and declared the pills to be a necklace....sounds like a desperate act related to addiction, even if the addiction relates to real pain

Trawling along the bottom to drag up a 10 year old case ( and pretty trivial at that). It's all about a political ban rather than concern about the matter itself. Not in the spirit of reconciliation regardless of the substance of the matter.
