  1. That's reassuring to know, I may just give the 1 year ext a go then but does money need to be in Thai bank or can I show it coming in monthly into my UK account?

If that's a no-go and to prepare for the next time, do you suggest from now on, I transfer just over 40,000 baht a month into my wife's thai bank account from my UK or Paypal?

Would this be enough to qualify the financial side of things?

You would prove your 40k baht income with a income letter from the UK embassy. Info for getting it is here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/how-to-obtain-a-pensionincome-letter-for-thai-immigration

Showing the money going into your UK bank account would be enough to get the letter.

You could get the 60 day extension and the apply for the one year extension during the last 30 days of it.

    UPDATE:

I thought I'd try my luck at the border and try for the 30 days ( try and milk the Non O Multiple for another 3 months instead of 2 ) but before I went there I called in immigration and asked them how many days I'm entitled to.

After looking at my passport the nice lady in Satun immigration said 60 days extension, I asked her how many days would I get if I go out/in at the border, she said 30 days but then said "up to him at border"

So went to the border and handed my passport over and told him what Satun Imm said, he told me to go and speak his boss.

Told the boss the same and he started to get a little angry, asking me who was it who said 30 days at Satun Imm? I want to know their name? This is wrong! You leave today you no come back because you no have visa now.

After realizing I was misinformed, he calmed down and politely told me, the new government are changing the rules all the time and everyone isn't on the same page.

So off I went back to Satun Imm, I wanted to double check the docs I needed for the 60 day extension so called them up and asked.

A different lady asked me what visa I had, I told her Non Imm O Multiple. She said you can't get 60 day extension because you no have reason for stay. I told her I'm married and have a son and that I've had them before. She said you can only get a 1 year extension. Before losing it, I ended the call.

I called in about an hour later and made sure I spoke to the nice lady I saw earlier and got my 60 day extension without any problems.

After which I asked her what I needed for the 1 yr extension regards finances, after reading her manual she said 400k in a Thai bank or 65,000 baht a month salary. I asked her was that not 40,000 and she said no it's 65,000 baht.

I'm not sure if any of this will still stand a few weeks from now though :)

I thought I'd hit a brick wall when you mentioned the UK embassy, I'm living all the way down in the South but I can mail the info to them, nice. I'll give this a bash.

Thanks Joe as usual reassuring, great advice!

  3. You would only get 15 days at a border crossing unless you are from a G7 country which would allow 30 days. You could then get a 60 day extension for that entry.

You could also get a 60 day extension do a border hop and get another 60 day extension.

I assume you have done or plan on doing an entry on or before the enter before date on your visa to get a new 90 day entry.

I'm from the UK Joe, so that means I should get 30 days at the border then? What to say if they refuse me the 30 days? They can be a funny bunch at the border, when I was last there he said I would next need to go to Imm and get an extension of stay for 30 days only based on marriage. I think these guys are a bit behind on the rules lol.

I've used my last entry on the Non O, the "enter before date" is the 30th of Sep and I'm stamped in until the 2nd of Dec.

I didn't know I could do a border hop and then get another 60 days at Imm, that's poses the question, is there any need to back to Laos for a new Non O Multi?

How long could I get away with do that?

I don't want to do the 1 year extension based on marriage because of all the carry on there seems to be to get it.

A lot depends upon the border crossing you go to. There are now 3 crossings to Myanmar at this time that are not allowing crossing for a out/in visa exempt entry. At the others it would not be a problem.

Being able to do the 60 day extension after a a couple of exempt entries would depend upon the immigration office you have to use.

Doing visa exempt entries and 60 day extensions would not be a practical option since you can get the multiple entry non-o.

I suggest you get the 60 day extension for your current entry and then decide what you want to do after that.

Getting the new non-o next week would mean applying on Monday or Tuesday since the consulate will be closed on the 2nd and again on the 7th.

I don't understand what you are saying about getting the extension. It is now near as bad as some people try to make it out to be. I have done 8 of them and have it not found it to be a problem.

  5. You can only apply for the 60 day extension there is no 30 day extension for a non immigrant visa entry.

I'm also coming to the end of my last entry on a Multiple O Visa. I know I can go to Imm and get a 60 day extension but before that can I go to the border and do a quick out and in and get 30 days first and then go for 60 days at imm?

I'm sure I've read people saying that on here so I could stretch this Non O Multi another 3 months instead of just 2.

  6. There are no such rules. Visa exempt entries are still possible.

I don't know where some of these crossing are getting their rules from unless the are making them up.

It seems a very quiet border UbonJoe, maybe it's going to take some time for the "new rules" as they put it, to be updated again. I think you're right though some seem to lack knowledge of the current rules and just act how they see fit.

  7. <script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

Some members have reported problems at border crossings in the south recently, not only with visa-exempt out-in entries but also with tourist and nonimmigrant visas.

According to the rules you can get a visa exempt entry since you have not had one previously.

    ***IMPORTANT UPDATE***

Well, I went to the Wang Prachan border in Satun this morning. I thought it best to ask the immigration officer how many (if any) days could I get today for my current circumstances first, rather than just stamping out, and I'm so pleased I did.

I told him about my expiring 60 day extension and that I had a triple entry TV before that and a Non-O visa before that and I didn't have any 30 day visa exempts i.e out / ins in my passport. I thought this would sway his judgment and reassure him that I wasn't a typical visa runner but in a nice and friendly manner, he asked me if I had any type of new visa from a Thai Consulate? I said no and then he asked for my passport, took a few minutes looking at it and said, I'm sorry but we have new rules now and we cannot let anyone back in Thailand without a proper visa from the consulate.

I said can you at least give me 15 or even 7 days and he said politely, I'm sorry but we can't do that, you'll have to go back to the immigration in Satun and ask them for a 7 day extension.

Just a heads up and a warning to anyone coming into Thailand from the South esp at Wang Prachan border in Satun.

Make sure you have a visa from a Thai Consulate or you're not getting in! smile.png

  8. I was due to head off to Penang tomorrow to get a Non-O but due to a sudden change of circumstances I can't .

It's my last day tomorrow, there's a nice little border called Wang Prachan in Satun.

If I head there tomorrow will I be okay to do 1 out/in and get 30 days okay without the need for an air ticket? I have financial proof if they ask for it.

In my passport they'll see my 60 day extension, ending tomorrow, before that I had a triple entry tourist visa and before that a multiple Non O based on family.

    Thanks in advance

  9. Hi UbonJoe,

I'm off to Penang next week to get a single Non O based on having a child with the ex but the OP stated that he took financial proof equivalent to 150k thai baht.

I thought proof for a Single Non O wasn't needed or ever asked for. Am I wrong?

    Thanks

The important thing is that you got the visa. Now you have 90 days that you can extend easily for another 60 days at immigration. You should start the process to get your parenthood legitimized.

  10. I wasn't clear enough sorry chaps.

I'm not married yet but was going to go to BKK to get married and then pop to Savannakhet and apply for a multiple Non O based on it.

I'm living in the South of Thailand so a trip up to the big city is something I'd rather not do if I can avoid it.

I was thinking of going to Penang for a single Non O based on my thai daughter with my ex GF but I'm not legalized as the father and only have my name on the BC.

How strict is Penang for a single Non O visa and what documents do they need for it?

  11. If he's getting 30 days, that's not a tourist visa, it's a visa exempt entry.

After 29th August, visa exempt entries can be extended for an additional 30 days. See quote below and click the link below that for a thread discussing it.

Longer visa exemption extensions begin August 29, 2014

BANGKOK: -- The Immigration Bureau has announced that of August 29. 2014 you will be able to extend your visa exemption period whilst you're in Thailand by 30 days, instead of the current 7 days, giving a total visa-exemption stay of 60 days. The fee for extension of stay is 1,900 Baht (unchanged).

Currently, a visa exemption entry can be extended by 7 days at your nearest Immigration office. From August 29th, it can be extended by 30 days. In effect, you can be in the country without a visa for 60 days.

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/744440-longer-visa-exemption-extensions-begin-august-29-2014/

I'm coming to he end of a 60 day extension (reason visiting child) I got this after my 3rd entry ended on my tourist visa ( couldn't get a multi non O last year due to lack of financial requirements at that time) I'm stamped in until the 2nd of September.

I was going to go to Bangkok tomorrow and start the ball rolling with a marriage visa but after reading the above does this give me some more time i.e 30 more days if I pop into the local immigration and pay 1900 baht after the 29th of August?

    Thanks in advance smile.png

  12. UPDATE: First of all, thanks for some really good advice. I appreciate the good bits ;-)

Well after spending over a month in the UK, I've put on a few pounds so I've decided to do the right thing and give this place a go for a month and use the stairs as one way to lose my excess baggage.

The Mrs is overjoyed, so is my wallet and waistline!

Note to self: Don't always take the easy option, sometimes the difficult one has more benefits.

Thanks again for your help and advice.

  13. I'd just like to ask you guys, what you make of this situation and what if anything can be done about it.

To cut a long story short, the Mrs went apartment hunting for us both and found what she thought to be a nice suitable place.

She decided it was okay for us and asked what she needed to pay. The reception lady told her she had to pay 1000 baht and the remainder when she signed the contract on moving in day.

The Mrs was so pleased with the place she said never mind I will pay the full whack and so she did and the receptionist gave her a small paper receipt.

I got to view the place yesterday and it's far from suitable. It's too small and on the 5th floor with no lift.

So I asked her to get her money back, thinking we would only lose 1000 baht but the receptionist was having none of it and said we couldn't get anything back.

I politely asked her to reconsider and reminded her that no contract has been signed and the only legal binding document between them was a small paper receipt which doesn't state any policy or terms of business.

I asked to speak to the boss and she said she would call her. After a very short conversation she came back and said the boss is willing to give you back 3000 baht only, which means we will lose 5000 baht.

So my question to you all is, can they get away with this without a signed contract and if not what should we do to solve this in a calm professional manor? Get the police involved? It seems like they're stealing our money to me.

    Any sensible advice appreciated.

  14. From my recent experience with Emirates they let me board with a one way ticket to Phuket but only with a valid visa, in my case a tourist visa (not to be confused with a tourist visa exemption). My mate didn't have a visa and had to show his return ticket and a return date within the first 30 days. So I'd get a visa if I were you.

  15. Looks like the Hull Thai Consulate website has decided to update their downloadable links and they have now removed the link I attached talking about one way tickets into Thailand.

But a quick look on the here

    http://www.thaiembassyuk.org.uk/?q=node/188

    I found this below.

Foreigners entering Thailand by any means under the Tourist Visa Exemption category are required at the port of entry to have proof of onward travel (confirmed air, train, bus or boat tickets) to leave Thailand within 30 days of the arrival date (otherwise a tourist visa must be obtained).

I imagine the Emerites staff are getting confused with Tourist Visa Exemption and a Tourist Visa.

  16. Just another response from them.

I replied to their email to me above with this below

    Dear Samantha,

Please read the link below from the Thai Consulate and advise your staff accordingly. It quite clearly says people are allowed entry with a valid visa and does not mention anywhere it needs to be a residence visa.

    http://www.thaiconsul-uk.com/download.aspx?id=20130520184044

I personally have travelled many times into Thailand and never, have I been refused entry with a triple entry tourist visa or a Non O Visa.

This is their reply back to me below

    Thank you for your e-mail.

We suggest you to please check the visa requirements and detailed information directly with the local Thailand Consulate/Embassy.

Should you have any queries do not hesitate to contact us.

    Sincerely,

    NARGISA MAVLYANOVA

Looks like they are just giving me the run around and nobody wants to give me a certain yes or no answer.

I'm going to try calling the bloody airport in Newcastle and see if I can get any joy from them. Will let you all know.

    Watch this space..

  17. Dear all,

I received my three entry tourist visa and I've just bought a one way ticket to Phuket with Emirates Airline. I wish I had looked on Thai Visa first. Upon browsing this forum I found a post talking about other people having problems boarding flights with a one way ticket. So I emailed Emirates and asked them to confirm my boarding because I have a valid visa.

    Their response is below.

    Thank you for contacting Emirates.

On checking with our concerned team at the airport, we wish to inform you that you would still need a return ticket as the visa is still a tourist visa not a residence visa, if you do travel on a one way ticket, then you may be made to buy a return ticket on arrival or refused entry.

Should you need further information or assistance, please contact us and we will be pleased to assist.

    Sincerely,

    Samantha Fernandes

    Customer Sales and Service Representative

    Emirates Airline

What am I supposed to do now? This is ridiculous!

I have looked on the Thai Consulate website and they say I will be allowed entry into Thailand with a valid visa so what is their problem.

Has anyone else flew with Emirates and had this problem? I don't want to buy a return ticket yet as I am planing on staying in Thailand for a year. Can anyone please advise me on what options I have to get around this problem.

    Thank you in advance.

  18. First post for me and it's good news.

Just wanted to share with you all some good news about Hull Consulate.

I was considering, going there to pick up my Tourist Visa after reading quite a few complaints about their slow turn around postal service.

I called them up last Wednesday at about 2:30pm and got straight through after trying all day on Tuesday.

I asked them about their back log and had they caught up with it yet. A lovely polite lady said don't mention that word backlog to us it's a bad word and went onto to say that they had got rid of it all and are now processing visas for January 3rd.

They've had some staff off sick so that didn't help things.

I said, can you reassure me that if I post my application the next day I would get it I back before the New Year and she said yes for sure.

I posted it Thursday at about 1:30 pm and was told by the post office they would get it by 1:00pm Friday. Today it was back in my hand before 11:00 am! Not bad at all, I say.

So if anyone is worried about their postal service, don't be, they are back on track and at a speedy reliable pace for now at least :-) Or am I just one of the lucky ones, you tell me.

Hope this helps reassure some of you and saves you a trip there.

    Happy hols everyone!
