It would be nice if the ministry started penalising vendors that do this.

...but this is a country where logical consequences are not in favour of bahtism...
Ever wondered about the number of flies you will see when you leave a plate with minimal food leftovers at your open window? So why is it you won't spot any around the fish, chicken and meat on the uncovered sales tables at the wet market?
Stupidity, lack of education and greed seem to be vital aspects of what is commonly known as "thainess." The logic behind this is: I may get poisened, as well as my family and you,- after YOU paid for it!

and exercising civil disobedience against "unjust" rulings and decisions by independent agencies.
This includes the NACC, courts and any others who dare challenge them.
Unfortunately their version of unjust would be anything that goes against PT or themselves regardless of how many laws they, Yingluck or any other PT members have broken.
After all, good to know Thailand has choices- between "red shirt democracy" and "PDRC democracy"
Do the sheep know there are two gates to the slaughterhouse but no exit?

Which foreign country are they going to retaliate against?
Come on Commander name horse and rider!
Was it the French Foreign Legion, the Mossad, FARC, KGB, Ninjas or the IRA messing up your site ? Or are there others with vital interest in the back yard under your protection?

vendors know about the risk of smoke inhalation, but most of them don't install smoke hoods with fans over the grills.
it's the public, who should be protected from poisoning.
burning incense is a completely different matter, it's done in private, often outdoor. And I don't believe it's more dangerous than grilling meat/fat
I don't think the vendors understand the dangers. Some person cooking on the street isn't going to be reading science or medical journals, or have even taken a course in organic chemistry.
In respect to incense, I disagree with you. The more aromatic the incense, the more likely that stick is going to have been infused with the magical 6 carbon ring based chemicals. The use of the term aromatic carbon ring refers to the reactivity of the carbon ring.these rings are easy to engage in chemical reactions and burning releases a significant amount of dangerous chemicals. Would you sit there and inhale toluene? (Think of huffers/glue sniffers). Formaldehyde is another nasty by product of the burning. Incense is turned out by the ton from factories in India and China that couldn't care less about the dangerous chemicals they use.
Now we reached the lowest level of education. One don’t need to be a health nerd, medical doctor or rocket scientist to know that inhaling every kind of smoke is unhealthy. Why am I not surprised that the average Thai street BBQer is not aware of this?

And......what was the point in checking it?
Now that we told you it makes you and others sick go ahead and complain about people smoking a cigarette sitting at your camping table...

“It is not the way of life of Thais who are naturally considerate and empthatic to fellow citizens, rather than resort to senseless killings.”
Does that mean the guy who initiated the notorious “war on drugs” and his guard dog who declared “war on protesters” are native Montenegrin and Danish?

Great! Defy the courts when you don't agree with them. Let's see how many people will you idiots shoot dead this time. And you guys still have to rely on the useless police. The army will never back another bloody crackdown.
Great! Defy the courts when you don't agree with them.
Isn’t that what they mean when they’re talking about (Thai-style) democracy?

“All she did was point at the anti-government movement, saying it was using the issue in a political game to topple her administration.”
…and implementing an economically suicidal pldeging system to buy votes is not a political game?

Mr Radoun told police that David was a French national who had offered him 10,000 baht for a ride to the ATM machine. He then offered the officers a bribe to let him go, Col Sutthichai said.
Am I that cheap? I am a Col. You made a wrong amount of offer.
“Mr Radoun told police that David was a French national who had offered him 10,000 baht for a ride to the ATM machine.”
I just hope the Phuket tuk tuk drivers will never hear about the drastc price hike…

I think the problem the minister for ear medicine has with the judgment is that he doesnt understand the details, someone needs to translate it into drunkenese for him
Maybe it's time for him to switch from ear medicine to this:

“Mental Health Dept claims investigation shows farmers killed themselves for other reasons.”
Economic problems caused by large informal debts was also a main factor leading them to commit suicide," Panpimol said.
And the cause of large debts is not the issue here? How many farmers commited suicide in just a few weeks in the years before?
Is it confirmed, the quote was made by Department deputy director-general Dr Panpimol Wipulakorn, or was it made by a patient of one of their notorious institutions?

Didn't know what the loan was for? I smell 120 billion tonnes of bullsh*t!
There was probably a hotline call to Dubai recently: “Hey Bro, what do I need to do to blame this new mess on the protesters…”
“Acting GSB president Worawit Chailimpamontri, who resigned from his post this afternoon amid cheers from the bank staff, said he had no idea the BAAC would ask for loans for the rice pledging scheme.”
Btw after this statement I guess the guy should try a job as a parking lot attendant, not much expertise in bank business needed here.

So at last we see the fruits of the Chalerm comments concerning violence. If the police
farceforce had actually been capable of actually fulfilling and discharging their duties in the first place, or truth been known allowed to do their duty properly in the first place rather than expecting the military to act this current situation would not have arisen. The credibility of the P.T.P which was at zero has now disappeared into a deep abyss of deceit and distrust with no chance of rescue.
These current ongoing actions will sadly fan the flames of discontent.
I've said before that the fuse is burning slowly, however it now seems as if that fuse is burning even quicker now to the explosive charged and packed barrel of public discontent..
I fear that the blood price for the actions of the Shinwatra clan will be a tragic price to pay both politically and socially and we shall end up with a damaged and flawed society courtesy of the Dubai based megalomaniac and his cronies.
If Chalerm’s war on protesters get’s tough and they will count the corpses of a couple of rice farmers, they will probably do what anti government forces do elsewhere: they’ll will go underground. How many tons of fertilizer, useful for car bombs and truckloads of weapons stolen from the army during the red shirt protests are stockpiled in the rice barns nationwide?

If the farmers wish to dun people for money, instead of begging from
astounded tourists, I would think a better idea would be to find out who
has the 400 billion baht that is missing ( Thaksin and fellow elites),
and go get their money from them..... Is that an over application of farang logic ?
They sold their vote to this government. Ignoring the facts and warnings that the idea of a rice pledging system promising prices 40 to 50 % over the market price, would have lead to failure in any exam at any business school. And now they ask tourists for donations while on an average day they don’t like farrangs and their western opinion at all? That’s what you get if you refuse to look over the rim of your rice bowl.

On the BBC World News at 0800 Jonathan Head said the government's efforts so far were " more show than reality " then he tried to spice things up by saying
' hardliner ' Chalerm had been brought in, discreetly ignoring the fact that Chalerm has been CMPO Director since the off.
He did then balance it out by saying Chalerm talks tough but the govt insists it does not want to to use force.
Now for Act II, Overture and Beginners please and another bottle, or two, of Chateau Lao Khao '23 for K. Chalerm
Jonathan (D...Head) is a disgrace to any objective journalism, why read his BS anyway?

The government owned Ag Bank again. Lordy I wonder how deep into this the Ag Bank is. The stories keep changing, but if the worse case scenarios are to be believed, this will make it about 1 trillion baht, secured by way overpriced and rotting rice.
And notice she said payments will begin next week. How much?
...and what will happen, if only half of the farmers will get paid? Creating first and second class farmers would cause many more problems.

Well, if you don’t have a football club that would survive in the EPL, not a single invention recognised by the rest of the world as ‘Thai’. If you live under an incompetent government, corrupt religious leaders in a remote controlled nation and in your schoolbooks the country’s history is modyfied to fit, you are left with no reason to be proud of. Hence, you have to stick to obscure nationalism based on constructed ideas of ‘thainess’ and doubious interpretations of ‘culture’.The Thai Ministry of Culture make noises like this every few months to justify their existence.
I think you're being a little unkind .... but not much. Red Bull was invented here although it took outside help to make it international. Then there are the patents on cloud seeding from the king. Of course he wasn't born or educated here. Apart from that you're spot on.

I hope you don't mind this:
Vincent Schaefer (1906–1993) discovered the principle of cloud seeding in July 1946 through a series of serendipitous events. In Australia, CSIRO conducted major trials between 1947 and the early 1960s. etc.etc.
"Lipovitan D"
In the late 1950s the 20mL "ampoule" tonic dominated the mainstream market for nutritional supplements. Manufactured by the Japanese Taisho Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.
“RED BULL” Chaleo Yoovidhya founded T.C. Pharmaceuticals. In 1976 he introduced a drink called Krating Daeng in Thailand, which means "red gaur" in English.
It was inspired by the tonic Lipovitan, which prime ingredient is taurine, and was popular among Thai truck drivers and laborers.

Easy to say if you are overwhelmed by all the high standards in most other fields around you.

I feel so sorry for her. Not for what she did,- it's more over the fact she can't even blame a farrang for her mistake. Where is that omnipresent part of "Thainess" is this?
