  1. It would be nice if the ministry started penalising vendors that do this.

Sent from my Nexus 7 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

...but this is a country where logical consequences are not in favour of bahtism...

Ever wondered about the number of flies you will see when you leave a plate with minimal food leftovers at your open window? So why is it you won't spot any around the fish, chicken and meat on the uncovered sales tables at the wet market?

Stupidity, lack of education and greed seem to be vital aspects of what is commonly known as "thainess." The logic behind this is: I may get poisened, as well as my family and you,- after YOU paid for it!

  2. and exercising civil disobedience against "unjust" rulings and decisions by independent agencies.

This includes the NACC, courts and any others who dare challenge them.

Unfortunately their version of unjust would be anything that goes against PT or themselves regardless of how many laws they, Yingluck or any other PT members have broken.

After all, good to know Thailand has choices- between "red shirt democracy" and "PDRC democracy"

Do the sheep know there are two gates to the slaughterhouse but no exit?

  3. vendors know about the risk of smoke inhalation, but most of them don't install smoke hoods with fans over the grills.

it's the public, who should be protected from poisoning.

burning incense is a completely different matter, it's done in private, often outdoor. And I don't believe it's more dangerous than grilling meat/fat

I don't think the vendors understand the dangers. Some person cooking on the street isn't going to be reading science or medical journals, or have even taken a course in organic chemistry.

In respect to incense, I disagree with you. The more aromatic the incense, the more likely that stick is going to have been infused with the magical 6 carbon ring based chemicals. The use of the term aromatic carbon ring refers to the reactivity of the carbon ring.these rings are easy to engage in chemical reactions and burning releases a significant amount of dangerous chemicals. Would you sit there and inhale toluene? (Think of huffers/glue sniffers). Formaldehyde is another nasty by product of the burning. Incense is turned out by the ton from factories in India and China that couldn't care less about the dangerous chemicals they use.

Now we reached the lowest level of education. One don’t need to be a health nerd, medical doctor or rocket scientist to know that inhaling every kind of smoke is unhealthy. Why am I not surprised that the average Thai street BBQer is not aware of this?

  4. Mr Radoun told police that David was a French national who had offered him 10,000 baht for a ride to the ATM machine. He then offered the officers a bribe to let him go, Col Sutthichai said.

Am I that cheap? I am a Col. You made a wrong amount of offer.

“Mr Radoun told police that David was a French national who had offered him 10,000 baht for a ride to the ATM machine.”

I just hope the Phuket tuk tuk drivers will never hear about the drastc price hike…

  5. “Mental Health Dept claims investigation shows farmers killed themselves for other reasons.”

Economic problems caused by large informal debts was also a main factor leading them to commit suicide," Panpimol said.

And the cause of large debts is not the issue here? How many farmers commited suicide in just a few weeks in the years before?

Is it confirmed, the quote was made by Department deputy director-general Dr Panpimol Wipulakorn, or was it made by a patient of one of their notorious institutions?

  6. Didn't know what the loan was for? I smell 120 billion tonnes of bullsh*t!

There was probably a hotline call to Dubai recently: “Hey Bro, what do I need to do to blame this new mess on the protesters…”

“Acting GSB president Worawit Chailimpamontri, who resigned from his post this afternoon amid cheers from the bank staff, said he had no idea the BAAC would ask for loans for the rice pledging scheme.”

Btw after this statement I guess the guy should try a job as a parking lot attendant, not much expertise in bank business needed here.

  7. So at last we see the fruits of the Chalerm comments concerning violence. If the police farce force had actually been capable of actually fulfilling and discharging their duties in the first place, or truth been known allowed to do their duty properly in the first place rather than expecting the military to act this current situation would not have arisen.

The credibility of the P.T.P which was at zero has now disappeared into a deep abyss of deceit and distrust with no chance of rescue.

These current ongoing actions will sadly fan the flames of discontent.

I've said before that the fuse is burning slowly, however it now seems as if that fuse is burning even quicker now to the explosive charged and packed barrel of public discontent..

I fear that the blood price for the actions of the Shinwatra clan will be a tragic price to pay both politically and socially and we shall end up with a damaged and flawed society courtesy of the Dubai based megalomaniac and his cronies.

If Chalerm’s war on protesters get’s tough and they will count the corpses of a couple of rice farmers, they will probably do what anti government forces do elsewhere: they’ll will go underground. How many tons of fertilizer, useful for car bombs and truckloads of weapons stolen from the army during the red shirt protests are stockpiled in the rice barns nationwide?

  8. The government owned Ag Bank again. Lordy I wonder how deep into this the Ag Bank is. The stories keep changing, but if the worse case scenarios are to be believed, this will make it about 1 trillion baht, secured by way overpriced and rotting rice.

And notice she said payments will begin next week. How much?

...and what will happen, if only half of the farmers will get paid? Creating first and second class farmers would cause many more problems.

  9. The Thai Ministry of Culture make noises like this every few months to justify their existence.

Well, if you don’t have a football club that would survive in the EPL, not a single invention recognised by the rest of the world as ‘Thai’. If you live under an incompetent government, corrupt religious leaders in a remote controlled nation and in your schoolbooks the country’s history is modyfied to fit, you are left with no reason to be proud of. Hence, you have to stick to obscure nationalism based on constructed ideas of ‘thainess’ and doubious interpretations of ‘culture’.
