You can't categorically dismiss Personal Protection Equipment such as a mask by 'you can still get the virus'. Wearing a mask offer a level of protection versus not wearing one.
By this rationale wearing a bulletproof vest and helmet in war is useless too - because you can still get shot in the face.Actually, on an internet forum you can.
You can (as Accidental Tourist did) write absolute bu11sh1t with impunity.
You Sir, on the other hand, will not last long by writing commonsense posts - like wot you did. ????

There are checkpoints between Australian States now so if the Thais were serious it could be done.
Absolutely no argument with that.

So travel between the provinces is still OK (for Thais) so long as they "self quarantine" when they get home ?
I've been told (by some Thais) that they are not allowed to travel home to Sa Kaeo province. They went to Lop Buri last week and say they've been told they can't leave now.
I know a Thai who traveled from Pattaya to Sa Kaeo 2 days ago - no problems. How can they be stopped? There are no road blocks to my knowledge.

That's where the govt failed. Leaving option should 've been closed. food & help should've been part of the plan.
No precedent for that.
I would have done what Hun Sen did when the Cambodian illegal workers fled building sites in Thailand....... Arrange fleets of (free) buses from Bangkok and Pattaya and screen + record all passengers..... with ongoing reporting at the point of destination .... where local food supplies could also be arranged.

Totally agree, said the same on the phone to my Mother an hour ago. But living in Thailand, I was commenting about the Thai govt, especially their actions over the exodus to the provinces.
What did you think they were going to once their work places were closed down ?

Yes.
The visa/extension is irrelevant; the requirement is for ALL foreigners to have that cover

The NHS is overwhelmed without covi-19, I have friends in the UK that say getting a GP appointment pre-corona is like winning the lottery and then if and when he says you need a specialist appointment you can wait another 3 months.
Change your friends...........................????
I walked straight in for a hernia check (well, straight in after calling at 9:00 am to request a call back, which I received at 11.00 with the doc saying "best you pop in", which I did at 11.15).
He confirmed the need for surgery and made the referral.
Admittedly, the 18 week waiting period became 27 weeks but the NHS team were first class when I eventually went in for the op.
So, yes, the NHS was already stretched (as it has been for the last 40/50 years to my knowledge) but still better than the Lottery (where I didn't have a win in the 27 weeks of waiting!).

Here in the village there are 2 big parties going on near us right now. Loads of tables at both and the usual communal plates of food in the middle of each.
We declined to attend.
My daily walk usually takes me to Mahan coffee on the navy training site near Sattahip. I was surprised (should I have been?) to see a large wedding taking place today in the Officer's Club. I counted 71 cars and 2 minibuses; that is a lot of people in one place at one time in the current climate.
In the U.K. the Church of England has limited weddings to 5 people - bride and groom, two witnesses and the vicar.- 2

Don't believe a word of that. Just another excuse to have a go at smokers. I am a responsible smoker, I don't throw my tabs down, I don't smoke in confined spaces - I don't even smkoe in the house and I live alone.
Tired of hearing this rubbish! "Doctor, I have a pain in my big toe" - "How many cigarettes do you smoke each day?"
Those anti smokers amongst you - take note: The very same people who are responsible for instigating much of the anti-smoking laws and hysteria in the UK, having achieved most of their aims, are now turning their attention to drinking - its just a matter of time. Thailand will no doubt follow suit.
Just to be clear..................... are you saying that discouraging smoking is a bad thing ?

Btw. I did report my own post to the moderators to think if they wish to keep either me or you and yourkind Putinists on this site.
I told them how exactly I think of yourkind and how they need to make a decision to keep either me or you on this forum.
They will take their time to think about this dilemma. Tomorrow one of us will no longer be part of this forum. It's either you and your various aliases (vogie) or me.
I'm fine with any solution as long as there is a fine and defined solution.
Goodbye.

Johnson was well warned. He could see what was happening the same as the rest of us.
He chose to protect the economy not people.
We were and still are two weeks behind Italy. The measures Italy put in place two weeks ago should have been implemented in the UK immediately so we could get ahead of the contagion and be proactive. This would have saved lives.
In stead we got some nonsense about herd immunity and carry on regardless.
Go BoJo.
He’s doing a great job; just the man for the job.
Fortunately, your politicised opinion counts for Jack. Boris will be judged on his actions/results and I think he will come out fine.
Get over it. As a hater you can hate....... but it counts for zilch.

Here's an idea. Could you sign up to 10 of these packages that offer 100,000 baht in medical expenses for about 500 baht? It would cost about 5000 baht and give you 1 million baht medical cover.

Many Thais are ignorant/oblivious to the situation..."
Really, says who and where has that been reported? Interesting that your crystal ball allows you to see into the future and make allegations around Songkran events that haven't yet happened. Well done.
So you're quoting hearsay about a bar that held a party that you did not attend and, obviously, could not see the attendees and the proximity they may have had to each other or the precautions they may have taken and from that you deduce that they represent "the Thais"? They don't, they represent the the people at that party, not "the Thais" as a nation. Well done, again, and do you put that in the aware/smart category?
Everything I quote is fact and from experience..... close your eyes if you wish....... there are none so dumb as those who will not see.
-
2 minutes ago, Just Weird said:
Yes, I have.
You can't mean that Thais aren't aware of the situation, obviously, so perhaps you could expand on what your profound statement actually means?
Many Thais are ignorant/oblivious to the situation with many carrying on 'normal' life regardless. Songkran to some extent will happen in the provinces and there will be gatherings of Thais.
They need reminding at every opportunity - as do many Farangs who also fail to recognise the potential seriousness of the situation. On Wednesday this week in my locale a bar (that has a food licence) held and publicized a party for the owners wife. I understand 20+ attended (Thais and Farangs).
Do you put that in the aware/smart category ?

Now is this a request made in ignorance? Is it a stupid request? Are the Management of the BTS totally clueless of facts?
Imagine, one infected person in one crowded carriage. He/she maybe in conversation with another. Or maybe cough or sneeze. The chances of contaminating the hand rails etc exists. As he/she does not know they are already infected, they will not wear a mask.
In this scenario...
Is the chance of spreading the COVID-19 virus zero if no one is wearing a mask?
If all are wearing masks, whats the risk factor?
Just asking, to update myself.
I think irrespective of the facts about how a virus is transmitted, wearing a mask is a visible message, and a reminder, of Covid-19 and may just keep people's attention.
