  1. The good news is....the one year licence has now been extented for two years.

Last may i went for my second yearly renewal and dont have to go back for another 18month from now.

So agree with the poster above; that driving centre is just so busy it will be a case of "see you in 5yrs sir" very soon.

I read that all new "one" year issues were going to be 2. Just wasn't sure if that extended to a one year renewal.

Did you have a tourist visa or just visa exempt entry stamp?

  2. I would be very surprised if they will give you a 5 year licence on a Visa Exempt entry.

But if they do, be sure to let us know...stranger things have happened in this country.

Im not sure but you may need a medical certificate too. Checked the pinned topic relating to drivers licences, bound to be some good info in there.

Yes am all up to speed with the other docs required and am going for a 1 year renewal only as I know for sure they won't issue a 5 year license with a non imm visa

    Cheers

  3. You need a residence permit, in form of a work permit, yellow book or paper from embassy or immigration. Visa is not so important, but it differs locally. They may accept it or not. Question of weather, luck and last night of the officer. TiT.

Yes I will go to the office opposite promenada and get one there, from what I remember you can get those with just an entry stamp, i.e. Visa exempt not tourist visa per se

  4. Am due to renew my one year driving license after it expires next month. Just applying for a one year renewal, not a 5 year.

Last year when I applied for it I had a tourist visa, this year am using visa exempt rule to enter thailand, not a tourist visa. Can I still renew it with just an entry stamp? Or actually need a tourist visa?

  5. i too am needing to travel this weekend and do not have my passport with my, it is currently with another countries embassy getting stamped for a visa. my thai license is out of validity so not sure if that would work, but do have a second passport that I could use, but there is no immigration stamp in it as i entered using the one that has been sent away, does anyone know if this second passport would suffice?

  6. สารส้ม "saan som" buy it from a market, dirt cheap and exactly the same product, just comes as the crystal and lasts years, still on my first one I started using 4 years ago. works wonders. needs a bit of smoothing out when you first buy it, just run it under a tap and rub, or just start using it and it will soon smooth out the edges and you end up with a nice contoured crystal.

  7. Anyone know what type of work permit they could apply for in order to work 'online'?

I thought head honcho was quoted saying, a few months back now when all this recent visa fuss started, that these online workers were not the problem or indeed a problem? And although he didn't go as far to say it, he pretty much said these online types will be given a sort of carte Blanche. Albeit, yes this is Thailand and everything has to be taken with kilo of salt. Must be a bit of a worry for other online workers... Just saying...

  8. What a caring government we you have.

It's an absolute embarrassment of a place, now they are not even offering those services (most expensive piece of A4 paper I ever bought), it is better to close the place and stop some freeloaders getting salary for doing nothing.

The british government representation in Chiang Mai an absolute joke. But then the british government is a joke full stop.

  10. We can all agree, the current stock standard crossings (usually paint faded and barely discernable) are universally ignored.

agree they are ignored, although doesnt matter if they are bright, brand spanking new, they will still be universally ignored.

ignored not through the lack of desire to pay attention to them but through ignorance and lack of education. how many people actually sit a proper test and even know what road signage actually means?

the pedestrian crossings that they have with a push button and lighting system for BOTH pedestrians and road users that tell the people when to cross (and when the cars NOT to pass through) dont even get adhered to, what chance does a stripy pony on the tarmac gonna have?!

  11. Good idea,bright & helping safety

    +1...Keeping people happy.

+1 taking idiots out of the gene pool..

too busy taking a selfie of an already faded "zebra" picture to notice the cars/kids on bikes screaming down the road, coming to soon knock them over selfie takers.. then the drivers of cars and kids on bikes (of rich parent land owner families), claiming that if farang wasnt there in the first place the accident wouldnt have happened, so farang must pay.

  12. how about spending money on what is really needed. Noporatthara beach needs attention, the promenade is just down right dangerous. Better spending money on that rather than the local OBT creaming it and driving around in their nice red plated Porsches and BMWs...

stick three fingers up at em.

  13. Why do they not say Chinese and Taiwanese busted instead of leaving most of us to think it was a whitee busted

What part of: " Chinese ‘call center’ gang"

and "Police have arrested a gang of 49 Chinese and Taiwanese nationals"

and ... "Among the arrested, 15 were Chinese and 34 were Taiwanese."

    do you not understand?

Time to sharpen up your reading skills.

    The email newsletter says:

Foreign 'call center' gang hiding in Chiang Mai busted by the police

and also marked the Message as Must Read and this with only 5 replies are the time the news came in my mailbox.

If TV would label is as Chinese Call Center gang, I wouldn't even want to read it. A lot of German, Swedish and other Europeans are currently recruited to move to Chiang Mai to work in those call centers.

if you could pass on contact details of who is doing the recruiting, am currently out of work and looking..
