  1. Also to add to webfact's post, since you are accessing the net a lot you should get the optional unlimited data package, about 1000 Baht on both AIS and DTAC. I have recently learnt that AIS prioritizes voice calls over data on it's network, so at the busiest times for voice calls you will probably not have any data connection, whereas DTAC have dedicated some of their bandwidth to data only, and should always have access to a data connection, in theory, as I have no access to a DTAC sim. I'm positive that AIS has no data connections a few times each day! FYI I use an iPhone.

I quite enjoy watching Nicholas cage in most of his movies. He does a great job.

One gripe about the movie is the Title!!! There is already a movie made a few years ago in Bangkok called Bangkok Danerous. It's a thai movie about a deaf thai guy getting caught up in Bangkok criminal life. It was pretty good and I found it in the Foreign Language section of the video store with the other action asian movies.

But most of you guys didnt know it and the same goes with the rest of the world so they just stole the name. Of well, good movie. I want to see those places they visited too.

The original Bangkok Dangerous was a 1999 film written and directed by the Pang brothers (Danny and Oxide) of Hong Kong but set in Thailand and which used an all Thai cast. It was primarily a low budget art house film which received good reviews internationally. The newer Bangkok Dangerous was a poor remake of the original with lots of script changes. It was primarily made to capitalize on the Nicholas Cage brand name and was thoroughly panned by the critics. The name was not stolen. I'm sure the Hollywood film company paid the Pang brothers quite well to use it...

Indeed the movie is a rescripted version of the original to suit Nicholas Cage and a wider audience. The Pang brothers actually directed the new version also, with Hollywood backing.

IMHO I have enjoyed a few Cage films like, Wild at Heart, The Rock and Lord of War. I like to see films that have been shot in Thailand to see how different directors picture Thailand in the context of their film.

  3. This gets me every year, last year I was 8,000 miles short, and would have hit it last week if not for the re-set. If its just the lounge you want, get an Amex or Citi Thai Airlines co-branded credit card, or a K-Bank Platinum credit card. All allow access to the TG Biz Class lounge at Suwanabpumi.

I use a platinum Amex/Thai Airlines linked card, but I cannot use it to access business class lounges. Can you give me any reference in print of this? Then I can wave it under their noses the next time I fly. :o

I use my normal Citi Platinum to get into the Louis Tavern lounges at Suvarnabhumi twice a year for free, I could also pay with the card to get in when the freebies run out, it's somewhere between 1000-1500 baht a pop.

You can see the benefits here

Scroll down and open the Platinum Select Travel Benefits tab

But as you can see this is not the Royal Orchid Lounge..

  4. I'm not sure if this is a bit off topic from the OPs post, but I saw the Western Digital media drive and thought the other readers may have a better insight into the Network Media Tanks, like the Snazio Media Cinema, which I saw in IT Mall here.

I'm wondering if any one has or used this type of media server? I have heard there are many similar models that are made in China, I'm sure there are cheaper options available here, anyone know where? Oh the price I was quoted for the Snazio was 15,900 Baht without Hard Drive or Wifi options.

    Cheers :o

  5. I had the diesel Fortuner for 2 years. At the time I wanted to buy a new car, I had a second hand XC90 on trial for 2 weeks. I really liked the XC90, very comfortable, all the gadgets and a sunroof, what put me off it was the high price, there was some rattling coming from the front right suspension and the turning circle was terrible, e.g.. if I was in a small soi and wanted to do a 3 point turn, it would end up being a 5 point turn! I then test drove the diesel Fortuner and the Mitsubishi Space Wagon. I was blown away with the handling and power of the Fortuner, the Space Wagon was more comfortable inside and had more gadgets, but the handling felt looser to me, I could lose the back end easier.

So the way I see it, is the Fortuner is the best value for money, the Volvo would be more for piece of mind and deeper pockets! I recently got rid of the Fortuner to get a car that both myself and my better half can use, the Fortuner was too big for her to drive!

  6. As far as I can see, UBC is broadcast in stereo or mono, so 2.1 is the norm. Though with most AV receivers/amplifiers nowadays, you have pseudo surround through Dolby or DTS, on my one, an Onkyo 7.1, I have 4 options for pseudo surround, Dolby PL II - 2 options and DTS Neo:6 - 2 options (Options are Cinema or Music).

    Hope this helps..

  7. I drove a MX5 in the Netherlands with lots of pleasure!

Here in Thailand I bought a Fortuner (2.7 benzine) in 2005/dec.

Although the Fortuner is a nice family-car (can't fit both my wife and daughter in a MX5 :o ), the MX5 was much more fun to drive! Really loved that car. I will buy one later again for sure! Unfortunatly the new MX5's are just crazy priced here in Thailand!

I have had the MX5 for 5 years now, it's the first car I ever bought for myself. When my daughter arrived we got a second car, since then the second car is always the one that changes, Mazda 323 2.0 Protege, BMW E39 523i, Toyota Fortuner 3.0 Diesel and now the BMW E46 318i.

Though when we got the Fortuner I had to change the MX5 to automatic, my wife can't drive manual and found the Fortuner way too big :D . Though it looks like I will be changing the gears back to manual in the near future.. You mention that the new MX5 is a crazy price, even the original NA pop-up light model I have is expensive here, they hold their price well though, it's practically worth the same price now as when I bought it!

  8. That was my original post mentioning about Woodstock, but only read about it, never went last year. What was/is your impression of the place, either as a pub in general, or as a venue for watching NFL football???

    Hi jfchandler,

IMHO the atmos, music and menu are to my satisfaction, as I go there quite regularly. As for the third floor viewing room, the couch there is really comfortable and the atmos is great if there's a decent crowd of people, though I can't comment on the NFL, I have only watched football(soccer) there. EG, if you have a group of friends, it can feel like your living room with a projector, comfy couch and fxb service.

  9. Referring to an earlier post.

Last season Woodstock showed NFL games (Sunday Night games) every Monday evening during the season and playoffs. I have contacted the owner and they will be showing the games again this season. The games are shown on the 3rd floor with large screen projector and English commentary, and no distractions since it is a private viewing room.

They don't announce the schedules due to the unreliability of True Visions, a problem we are all aware of.

  10. Why did someone post a price list 2 YEARS after the OP asked for it??

Im guessing the OP has worn out a few pairs of shoes in the meantime!

Doh! Cheers Moonfruit, didn't look at the date, maybe the OP has one already!

Though it wasn't the OP I replied to, it was Colonel Mustard, with the wrench in the garage...

[Must remember to check the dates on posts..]
