What are Khmer bargirls like? My main concern is trustworthiness, i.e. I don't want to wake up late in the afternoon feeling like I've been hit in the head with a 6 pound club hammer just to find that all my belongings are missing.

bargirls are fine, freelancers like at soyra mall are mostly theives. just keep phone, cash, laptop etc in a safe and you will be ok

yes. mostly white lies, altho usually with the intention of getting more money but it has the opposite effect, and also makes you suspect them when they are actually telling the truth

for me it's not about money from me, it's more they don't want to tell you the full story if they get money from other sources

yes, but thats because they fear your money will stop if they do

Maybe the lying thing is a Thai and Cambodia thing, it comes so natural, I've even wondered whether they learn it at school. Only little white lies for me so no big deal but hard to make sense of what they say sometimes

yes. mostly white lies, altho usually with the intention of getting more money but it has the opposite effect, and also makes you suspect them when they are actually telling the truth

The police there and in and around Cambodia in general, are fairly horrible creatures that even make the Thai police look decent. Because of ridiculous low wages, they are totally corrupt and it isn't going to change anytime soon.

They can't be trusted to do their jobs, and I found the higher up the chain of command, they tended to be dismissive of foreigners when they even speak to you, as though they are some kind of higher species as opposed to corrupt lowlifes. When I had a local address for a bank account, it needed verifying, which is merely a police signature and stamp, they wanted $25 for that.

I even recall a situation one time in Siem Reap, my friends had a guesthouse / small hotel and they had a fire due to an electrical fault. The 'fire police '  their name given to the Fire brigade, refused to attend, they had asked for a crates of beer on arrival, if they were to turn out.

My pals called the actual owner of the property a local influential Cambodian, and after a few phone calls they eventually turned up.

It makes me wonder sometimes what expats on here talk about relocating to Cambodia, if they really know what it is really like.

one of the first things i learned in the west was to avoid the police at all costs, so that doesnt worry me, Ive had nothing to do with them. except the old guy downstairs who keeps telling me hes police and showing me his gun as if hes trying to scare me but I just ignore him

Met a girl and she traveled with me the whole trip.  Lovely girl and I had a good time with her even though I know she is lying to me.

I am going back in a few weeks for more 'research' with the same girl.  Maybe she will change my opinion of Pnom Penh.  Will have a serious talk about the lies.  Although I don't really care.  I don't mind being scammed if i know I am being scammed.

lying seems to be the khmer way, more so then thailand.  i mean ive only got to know a dozen or so out of several million so Im generalizing, but they all lied and it was unnecessary and very obvious. i guess it works within their culture. and you cant change it, its a shame because they are a lot of fun to be with but it dooms any relationship eventually. it really puts them at a disadvantage, Im sure its one reason the country is so poor, but the only way to stop them doing it is to end the relationship. dont let it put you off tho, its all entertainment

Salaries are lower I agree, but they won't get qualifications to get decent jobs at all if they don't bother going to school or learn bugger all when they are actually there. I think the schools are crap too.

A Thai degree isn't worth the paper in Europe unless it's from highly recognized Bangkok universities, of which there are few.

Ive offered quite a few work, simple things like sweep the floor for $10. nope. hold their hand out and ask for $10 sure but do 10 minutes work for it, no way

I suppose its value is based on limited supply and increasing demand. How long those two factors will remain 'limited' and 'increasing' respectively is the question.

limited it will remain. increasing demand, depends on weather or not you hold the view that it will eventually make current currencies obsolete. I am of that opinion.

Should stay away from drugs in Cambodia. You can end up in trouble. They try to sell the backpacker crowd "cocaine" that is actually meth or heroin...  resulting in deaths. Their weed is usually very poor third rate harsh stuff.  Tuk tuk drivers have a scam going with the corrupt police.... they''ll sell you weed and then tell the nearby cops who will bust you and you have to pay a big "fine" or "tea money" to the cops to avoid going to jail, and then the cops split the fine with the tuk tuk drivers and give the weed back to the tuk tuk drivers for them to run the scam all over again. No... I didn't fall for the scam....

Just a little note.....  I saw the dope scam being operated in Siem Reap...(along with the "milk scam", and the sickening "sick kid" scam and others) and was offered dope more than once.  Avoid it....  they have good inexpensive beer there.  Why push your luck? ?

never heard of that scam in PP, but admittedly all the drugs are crap, including the 50c beer if you ask me

    Good points.

I do not think it is cheaper.

Also, they are still working on that flyover so who knows add the overall infrastructure is nothing compared to here.

It is a third world place and a big downgrade in lifestyle from Thailand.

Seems sad if people need to lower their life quality and settle for that environment..

good point? its a flyover. not everyone gets emotional about them.

Pesticide watchdog Thai-PAN has today (Wednesday) published its most recent survey, which reveals that 41% of all vegetables in Thailand’s fresh markets are contaminated with chemical pesticides to a level that exceeds internationally acceptable standards. 12 types of banned chemicals were also discovered.

Ms. Prokchol Ousap, coordinator of Thailand Pesticide Alert Network (Thai-PAN), reported that the organization recently collected 286 samples of vegetables in collaboration with agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), provincial health officials, Tambon health workers, members of national farmer council, consumers’ association and civil society.

She said that the sample sources ranged from fresh markets and shop houses to produce shelves in department stores in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen, Yasothorn, Srakaew, Chanthaburi, Ratchaburi and Songkhla. The samples included 15 types of vegetables and nine types of fruit commonly consumed by the public. They were sent for analysis by ISO-17025 certified laboratories in the United Kingdom.

“The result is shocking as they found that 41% of the samples were contaminated with chemical pesticides,” said Ms. Prokchol.

    Full story: https://www.thaipbsworld.com/41-percent-of-vegetables-in-thai-markets-exceed-contamination-standards/

its not shocking because its been that way a long time. whats shocking is that the government, if you can call it that, dont care about anything but their off shore bank accounts

Just swap the great leader's names from Hun Sen to Prayut, plus the country names.

Once that's done, I find it difficult to see the difference with the way both 'governments' are treating its citizens: No criticism, claims of 'fake news' if it's something they don't like.

the difference is that unlike thailand in cambodia its more likely girls are pimped by their brothers than their mothers

Even Mueller, after 2 years of investigating at a cost of millions of dollars couldn't say that Trump had broken the law.

Perhaps you can provide some proof of your assertion?

Im not sure mueller said that but I think the issue is he has repeatedly lied to the american public. may not be illegal if hes not under oath but its obvious hes doing it to try and hide illegal activities
