  1. Well having heard all about this quirkster from some of you lot I was on my way back from Central Mall today.

As I rode up towards 3rd Road intersection right ahead of me, filtering through traffic, was the Glitterman himself. :D

Feathered cycle an' all on the move through the busy streets!

I was at a bit of a brisk speed and needed to get past though.

I saw the gap open up and called out to him 'Coming through glitterman!'

He moved across to one side and taking care not to bump into him (Bad PR move otherwise) I squeezed past.

As I did so he gave a cheery smile and a friendly look while I gave the nod back!

Yup this dude is one of the good guys; A cool character that we need more of in this rough and tumble town! :)

  2. The swaztika sign has something to do with buddhism,or so i thought. If the sign is harmless in Thailand then tourists will have to accept that they do not mean any harm.

Are you actualy saying they are celebrating natizm, cannot believe for sure

Mate, the sooner the tourist hordes understand that the swastika was taken from the indian belief system (namely the wheel of buddha) as opposed to the other way around the better imo.

It's like they jump a hundred feet in the air at the bogey man that's not even there :)

  3. A friend of mine has had her lifes work lost on her laptop.

AFAIK she's used some discs to re-format the hard-drive.

In the event of a re-formatted Hard-drive is it possible for a PC guru to sift through the HDD and find data still on it?

Or is it goodnight vienna to all her hard work?

  4. Can anyone settle a bet between my GF and I ...

Can actual motorcycles (choopers) drive on the Toll Highways in Thailand?

She tells me they cannot but I am sure this rule just applies to the scooters.

I've argued the toss over this inane ruling with highway police and tollway people.

The tollway people, if no coppers are near will just wave you through and send you on your way. The cops will usually tea-money you for 200 baht or so OR (if it's a motorway) move you into the transitway (Parts of highway 9).

You can just hide behind, or around the left-hand side of big trucks and slip through un-noticed, but you didn't hear that from me :)

So yeah you aren't supposed to ride on them, but TIT :D

  5. PATTAYA TOURIST POLICEMAN CAUGHT DRIVING AT HIGH SPEED WITH SIRENS BLARING

A Swedish national who was a Pattaya Tourist Police Volunteer has been arrested for driving his vehicle drunk and at high speed with the police sirens blaring.

    http://www.pattayadailynews.com/shownews.p...NEWS=0000011532

Pattaya, the 23rd of December 2009 [PDN]: Police Lieautenant Colonel Wittaya Yeunyong stated to reporters that at around 2:00am on Wednesday he was patrolling the area around Pratamnak Hill when he spotted a white pickup driving erratically with sirens blaring. Lt. Col. Yeunyong proceeded to stop the vehicle under the overpass on Pratamnak Road in order to investigate the reasons behind the disturbance.

After the vehicle had been pull over by police it was discovered that the driver of the white Toyota Vigo pickup was Mr. Jon Ogeborg a Swedish national. Mr. Ogeborg was evidently extremely intoxicated and had with him an unknown Thai woman, believed to be his girlfriend. Upon further investigation it was discovered that he had also previously been a Pattaya Tourist Police Volunteer, however; his license had expired in May of 2009 and was therefore no longer valid.

Police questioned Mr. Ogeborg as to why he was driving so recklessly whilst drunk, also wishing to know why he had the sirens on so late at night without reason. Mr. Ogeborg explained to police that he had no idea that the sirens were on until the police pulled him over. He also stated that he was not drunk and had not been driving recklessly, mentioning that he and his girlfriend were merely driving home.

It was quite evident to police at this time that the man had consumed far too much alcohol, at which point he was arrested and taken down to the station. Police will now wait until Mr. Ogeborg is sufficiently sober before they re-interrogate him to find out why he had been driving drunk with the sirens on, without justification.

  7. Bought my CBR 400 for 75,000 baht, with legit green book and have owned it for over a year now.

    P1040259.jpg

Parts are pretty cheap, sometimes have to be ordered in from Bangkok (a few day wait), in rare cases from Japan (two week wait).

Because the bike is highly compatible with the CB 400 I've never had a problem with locating parts.

Not too heavy and still doable in heavy traffic for filtering etc.

Pulls in about 45 - 50 mpg, does about 180 - 200 kph top-end (proven when keeping up with the SSR lunatics :D )

    Cruises at about 80 - 120 kph.

Never had a problem long-range touring. I think the record I've managed is Kamphaeng Pet to Chonburi in one go, that was pretty cool.

I've got a tank bag and panniers for gear.

Make sure the bikes serial numbers match the green book, crash damage, usual things like that.

Engines are strong. Got 50,000+ kms on mine and no problems yet.

The forward riding position takes some getting used to, the stock mirrors on mine were shte and useless, but you can get good aftermarket parts for this bike.

I'll probably change or upgrade in a years time for a newer one etc...

Don't be put off buying 2nd hand. It's a good thing, compared to the 65,000 baht I paid for a CBR 150 the extra 10,000 baht got me a good machine, with more power and that bit more comfort for touring around the country :D

Buying new is a money pit :)

  8. Must be a money maker for those guys. Let's see....a sumarai sword proof line of clothing?

It's probably a knock-off sword and a good leather bikers jacket will go far in protection.

Those as*holes are in Khorat. A friend of mine was in hospital there following an RTA and the guy in the bed next to him was a victim of their handiwork; They'd slash a chunk off him while he waited at the lights.

  9. The suspects are British national Ahoor Rambarak Fath, 45, and Swedish woman Masobukwe Moiseng Patricia Segage, 45

Yeah they really sound like British and Swedish names, more likely Middle eastern and African I would also be checking the validity of their ID docs. If they are legitimate passport holders shame on those countries for having such lax immigration laws! Britain is a far bigger haven for criminals than Thailand!

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes sounds that they would come from arab countries and Africa country of some sort. Whatever citizenship they are holding. I would never call them British and Swedish.....

    Glegolo

Whilst they may have just obtained a British passport by whatever means it could also be that they were born in the UK to parents who were immigrants or whose grandparents were. Remember British people are descended from many races. Scandinavian in the north and French in the south oh and Scandinavian before that. There are also a lot of Spanish and German links as well ( I believe Queen Victoria's first language was German). Also many Brits are born abroad ( Cliff Richard. Spike Milligan, Joanna Lumley, Felicity Kendal to name just a few well known ones in the UK) If they'd been named John or Jane Smith but born in an Arab or African country would that make them ok?

What's most important is what they've done, not their name or where they were born.

Their nationality just gives a place of origin to be deported if necessary and a place to check their records or to obtain help. Of course the validity of their documents should be checked.

Historical immigrants in the days of 'get on your horse, then sail on a boat to work abroad for a living' are one thing.

Immigration and the welfare state from post WW2 onwards is quite another.

    OT post.

It boils down to the senior bloodline and whether you think a nation should be a racial fusion of one herd race (socialism) or keep it's diversity separate (nationalism) or possibly a messy mix of both (the UK).

Can you imagine the Thais letting us all have passports for nothing and welfare handouts so we can call ourselves Thais and have secondary boltholes back in the UK? I don't think so either :)

Every race is an immigrant one, but guess what? There's such a thing as established soveriegn countries now that aren't immigrating anywhere en-masse anymore. Hence they have an established presence. The UKs full, move along now, nothing more to see here :D
