Very true.  But when will the Thai people (non-wealthy) wake up.

Take a look at the Forbes top 10 richest people in Australia - once of the world's better economies and 14th in top GDP.

Then take a look at the Forbes top 10 richest people in Thailand - which economy is 1/3 of Australia.

Unbelievable - the Thai top 10 dwarf the Aussies - it is very very wrong in Thailand.

One day ........... hopefully soon ............... something is going to give.

Whilst they control the education and information, and their culture forbids questions, ( impolite!)  the Rich are well entrenched to stay in control. The general public silently say ‘ govt stupid’. But have no clue! I benefit. Thais are gentle and they smile , even in adversity.

  2. Ray Dalio, founder of the world’s biggest hedge fund , using maths and history and comparisons , believes we are headed towards a Depression, similar to 1929.
zero interest rates, debt ballon, trade war , rising power threatening the super power plus other similarities.

and now the Virus. Very contagious and reoccurring in patients that have recovered! Some businesses will prosper. Others will fail. Certainly we are headed for a recession. Wait for the numbers to come out. That will panick those all Gung ho investors.

If it were me I would not only maintain the current 400 but also build it up to 800 two months prior to attending immigration.

I realize that your switching to "income method" however your current permission of stay was granted on the basis of money in the bank. If you not follow those rules one could argue that your permission of stay was terminated and you need new non o

    My agent told me

1- 400K had to remain until the next extension.

2- It’s either or. 800K rule or 65K income rule. Prior to this year, the two could even be combined.

3- I think with the worsening economic climate, immigration rules are relaxing as a flood of expats have already left Thailand.

  4. Thanks again for the inputs.

i have been bringing in 65,000 thb plus each month from the Dec last year. I got my extension in Jan.

Secondly ,not everyone in Australia over the age of 66 is allowed to receive a “ pension” . We are “means tested”.
Many are not eligible for the old age pension. My cash is from income of investments.

it’s a big risk I suppose,  to use up the 400 K thb and chance upon getting an immigration officer that decides I had the temerity to challenge their laws.

  5. I am changing my Thai visa requirements from having 800,000 thb in my Thai bank to get my last visa to now bringing in 65,000 thb each month from my overseas account to qualify for my next extension.

just wondering if anyone knows , am I still required to keep 400,000 thb in my Thai bank right until I apply for my next extension next January? I do have Health Insurance covering me in Thailand ( I heard that was the reason for this new requirement of maintaining the 400,000 balance of the 800,000 in the bank account .)

    Thanks in advance.

  6. As an expat living here, I do feel sad to see money not spent adequately on libraries, health, schooling , infrastructure etc, the likes of which western countries incur lots of debt. But I do see much happier people generally . So who knows . A balance , I suppose, would be nice.
I sincerely wish the Govt the best as these are terribly difficult times and hope they will look after all Thais who are badly affected economically with all the lockdowns and restrictions that are there to curb this virus.

  7. We are not in normal times. So abnormal behaviour will spring up world wide . It’s how we adapt. If we stay sensible ,we can be fine. Certainly , bad things happen, but hey, maybe we should realise that a life is worth more than all the money in the world. Shame Trump sees the opposite.
And hopefully, we all realise that “more ,more, more”  is just bullsh#t
