i've lived and worked in many countries, as well as amazing experiences there are cultural challenges everywhere, if you want everything to work as it does back home, then stay back home. don;t try to compare other countries to your country, understand and accept the differences, manage your expectations, chill out, enjoy the differences, enjoy life. :coffee1:

Ok thanks.  Then getting upset when a patient shows up at a clinic is acceptable?  Laughing at a passenger who slips and hits his head when he enters a car because the driver left a slippery substance on the floor is acceptable?  Got it.  I have lived in 6 countries and I have not had similar experiences.

How long have you been here? And you are still surprised that they didn't understand your sarcastic North Korea joke. That tells us a lot more about you than those Thais you complain about.

Many countries want the money of the tourists. They don't really want the tourist.

I understand them, living here for decades I see too many annoying tourists.

I guess most have never heard of North Korea but many know of South Korea? My mistake.  Next time I will make a South Korean reference.

Time is not money here, which is one of the main reasons why productivity is low, which is in turn one of the main reasons why most Thais live in poverty.

I think you just summed it up.  I had a professor in college who said “ time is money and money is life”.  This is not true in LOS.

Good thing it was a blood test and not a prostate exam you might have gotten an extra digit or two for making them start work so early.

Now I know 0700 actually means 0730 or 0800?  Schedules and timetables have little meaning or value in LOS.  Unless it negatively  affects them.  For instance if a train or flight is delayed.

Many of us are in Thailand because it is different from "home", which is mostly somewhere in "the west".

Yes, Thailand is different, in many ways.

    What should change:

Thailand should be just like the west - then why would you come?

Thailand should be Thailand in some ways, but like the west in ways I want it to be. - Really

    Thailand is Thailand. Accept it.

Obviously, I also noticed problems with opening times and lots of other things which are not perfect.

Do I want to wait until they "improve" their lazy behavior?

Or is it so much better to just accept Thailand is Thailand.

Did most Thai people get the message that the current PM and government want 40 million arrivals this year?  More arrivals mean more problems, more “bad” guys and more chances of cultural misunderstanding and/or misinterpretations.  Some the locals I have met act like they want the borders closed to foreign arrivals,  Sarcastically I asked them “have you ever been to North Korea”?  They did not get the joke.

Up to them init they don't give a rat's ass what you think.

That is why I do not say much to most locals.  All I need to do is buy a product or service.  At times the product and service are not great but there is not much a foreigner can do about that.  This has been the most difficult lesson I have learned.  But at times I wonder why?  The I get back to reality.

Jeez, if these are your biggest complaints in 7 years you should be thankful.   Pretty minor stuff to complain about in my opinion.

It is more an observation than a complaint.  I have learned that most locals hate it when a foreigner complains.  Therefore, I I rarely give feedback to the locals.

  8. Had a cyst removed from my lower back(an easy place for the doctor) at CM Ram two years ago.  Total coast was  1,1,000 Baht.  Might worth it just go bye CM and ask either at Dermatology Center or at the Main hospital.

  9. Well, this is not new.  About 40 years ago the starting pay for many police department in the southeast part of the US was about $18,000.  The Miami Police Department and the New Orleans Police starting pay was about $18,000.  This led too any cases of some officers having to take second jobs.  Some hotels and motels in New Orleans would have uniformed police officers at the front desk at night.  This can also lead to poor recruiting, poor retention and in some cases corruption.  I cannot imagine living anywhere near London and making under 30,000 per year.

In major US cities the starting pay for police officers is at least $50K.  This is not counting benefits and now in some cases generous housing allowance.

  10. If one is concerned about HIV transmission during unprotected (some call it bareback) sex then how about looking at it in another way.  I was in S. Korea in December and found out in some pharmacies they sold HIV saliva swab tests.  The cost was about $40 dollars and the kit contained two tests.  The results would be revealed in 15 minutes.  Sounds similar to a Covid ATK test? At this time I do not believe this type of test was available in LOS but I did see oneat a Wal Mart back in LA.

On a related matter I was in a bar in Incheon and after a few swigs of Soju I was talking to a few local guys and they said there were agencies that provided bareback services with an attractive partner and the HIV swab test was mandatory.  The provider came with the test kit.  Of course the cost of this service was rather steep.

If you want to live long-term in Japan, you have to marry a Japanese. Long-term visas are easy to get if you're married and you get 3 years. Japan is not an easy place to live, however, much harder than Thailand.

Totally agree.  I spoke to a guy who was living in Japan many years ago and he said in order to rent an apartment he had to get a Japanese national to sign as a guarantor.  It sounded more like the Japanese person was like a reference.
