  1. If you like to chat with nice girls while having your drink, there are nice bars along sukhumvit road from asoke to phrong phong. They dont impose on you for going out or for sex, they like to talk.

  2. I think that when people hear of military and coup they are scared, in their mind they have a darker picture that the country is at war and and the bombings in the south also contributing to make it more scary

  3. My wife has a tourism related business on the side and is beginning to see some cancellations due to the coup, the continuing curfew/martial law and more countries now actually advising against all travel to Thailand that isn't strictly necessary.

Does anyone else begin to see this? (Asking specifically to people with first-hand exposure to a tourism related business, not a casual observation of barstools filled.)

Long term I think the prospects are actually better for tourism, specifically because it's now very unlikely that the ex-government clique will be allowed to return, which would see an end to populist hand-outs, further minimum wage increases and other free entitlements that discourage actually working for normal pay. Thailand needs to stay affordable so the current hiccup is objecively worth it in the long run from a business perspective.

This is true, my wife as well is a tourist guide, she has not been working for the two last months and she is still has no customers around. Many tourist agencies abroad are offering alternatives to their customer to avoid thailand, many insurance companies also reticent to insure.

  4. If I use a fixed deposit account to hold and season my 800,000 Baht for my extension of stay, will Immigration still require me to make a withdrawal on the day of application? If so, will I lose interest on the whole of my deposit, or just upon the money I withdraw? Indeed, is it even possible to make a partial withdrawal from a fixed deposit account? (The bank websites I've looked at are unclear on this.)

    Thanks.

Why do you have to withdraw the money? Only a statement from your bank is required ! whether the money is in a current or deposit account does not matter, only the proof of having this fund in the bank is required, unless you rely on part of this money to pay for the visa fees, then you will not be in compliance. The 800k is the minimum, it could be any amount plus.

  5. "...certificate of morality..."

    That's new.

Can you explain what it is?

In my country we call it like this but it could be called in another way in other countries : its the certificate from the Police which certify that you have been cleared of any conviction

  6. Yes i opted for the 800k deposit which was simpler for me, i could not start my visa from my country of origin because there is no Thai embassy there instead i travelled with a normal tourist visa and appointed a laywer to do it on arrival, 3 photos, passport, a certificate of morality and a proof of the funds certified by the bank were required.

  7. The more difficult thing i have faced at the time to open an account in Thailand for my retirement visa application most of the banks asked me for work permit or retirement visa but how to get the visa if i dont have an account opened, how can you get money in? Fortunately only one bank accepted after recommendation from my lawyer. I recommend that if you are having lot of funds in Thailand and living on your own, you shud better have a will done in Thai language so that in case something happen, the funds can go to the person you want to.

  8. Reading through the visa threads and I can't help feeling like so many farang working here, do so for a mere pittance. What could possibly motivate someone to be a teacher for a few dollars an hour, when they could make 3 - 4 times that wage working at a McDonalds or Burger King at home?

Why are some guys so desperate (and that is the word it seems fitting) to stay here? I just don't get it.

Most of the time that things goes wrong when for example you dont hire any local photograph for any reason to carry on the job and you decide to do it yourself if any of these frustrated photograph go and protest to the police who will of course show that they are doing their job by arresting you.

  10. This is the second time that Iranian sponsored foreign nationals have been located in Thailand. The first time Iranians actively taking part in acts of terror against the people and against Thai security forces. A small scale bomb factory was located.

This time, we have Hezboullah members located with a Thai national, one could speculate that mingling in such small groups that the Hezbollah members were providing support in the form of training. Hezbollah is directly funded by the Al Quds forces of Iran, and trained by them.

This leads to the suggestion that Iranian forces and proxy forces are actively supporting and promoting a religious war against Bhuddist Thailand. Would this not be an opportunity for smart Thai political figures to approach both "moderate" Islamic states, and particularly other Buddhist nations within the region and particularly within Asean, to provide training, assistance and smarts to resist. Countries like Indonesia have gone a long way in removing radicals from Java, the national army of the Philippines has had great success in backing some groups into submission - there are many more examples.

It is time for Thailand to communicate that their war is the regions war, and if the war is lost, the region will experience rapid change of which few will appreciate.

    Interesting !!!...
