  1. Hope the riots spread to burning the homes of the fraudulent 0.01% who are destroying our economies.

Not a chance. These idiots are only going to burn down poor neighborhoods and bring down their quality of life even lower.

Reminds me of the Dead Kennedys song "Riot". "Tomorrow your homeless, tonight it's a blast". I'm sure all of the properties damaged during these protests will belong innocent people with nothing to do with this event. I am also sure that those protesting will not have been present at the shooting and have never seen the evidence presented to the grand jury.

  2. I CAN'T STAND ice in beer and I am not even a big drinker. To me, it completely ruins the taste.

I like you Ulysses, but you have a lot to learn about drinking. We don't drink beer for the taste, we drink it to get drunk ; )

The ice makes it really cold and if taste mattered I'd have to give up Thai beer.

I agree with your sentiments. I drink beer for the buzz and not the taste however I still hate ice in my beer. When I share a few bottles with some friends they only get half a glass of beer as the rest is ice. I on the other hand get a full glass of beer. I drink mine just as fast as they drink theirs so I get twice as much beer as everyone else biggrin.png

  3. Spiritual beliefs? Unless you mean an actual belief in spirits/ghosts, you've really lost me on this one.

I won't participate in any religion that requires me to kneel in front of a guy wearing a dress.

Personally I would shorten that statement to "I won't participate in any religion" biggrin.png

  4. You need a resistance of less than 10 ohms. The reading will depend on the type of earth as well as the rod you use. Some types of earth just don't conduct well. If you can't get less than 10 ohms you can buy an earth mat which will give you a much larger surface area for any charge to go to ground. Copper is the best conductor.

  5. There goes 80% of VirginGalactic's future customers.

I doubt this will put off even 20% off their customers. IMHO People who want to go to space understand the risks. It is a once in a life time experience. Most who can afford it are of a certain age anyway. They have made their fortunes and are willing to take the risk.

The so-called Palestine has never been a nation/state. The reason it isn't accepted is because it's a terrorist group. There was the PLO under Arafat and there is Hamas...

Try that one out on the UK or the US. Settle a bunch of terrorists on the border who lob rockets in and commit themselves to the destruction of the UK or US.

Now watch and see what happens.

70% of UN member states recognise the "so called" state of Palestine. Even the Pope does.

I wonder how the native Americans felt about those white guys who first rocked up on the shores of the new world all those years ago. At least the Palestinians have been there for thousands of years. Seems only fair that they would like a home of their own, after all the whole area was known as Palestine before the UN created the so called state of Israel in 1947.

You guys have it all backwards. There never was a country called Palestine nor was there ever a people called Palestinians until those people began to call themselves that after WWII. They have not been there even 75 years much less thousands.

There was a region called Palestine which encompassed all or part of several countries but never such a country or people.

It is Israel which is in the historical record for at least 3,000 years.

It is these so-called Palestinians who have terrorist leaders and are committed to the destruction of Israel.

If you read my post you will see that I never claimed that there was a country called Palestine. Yes there was a region called Palestine just as there was a region called Judea. There were many regions of various names. The same is true of anywhere in the world. Over time borders change just as political regimes, rulers and empires change.

You talk about the Palestinians calling themselves that after WW2 well the same can be said about the state of Israel. It only came into being after the end of WW2. I appreciate the reasons the state was formed but as usual with western powers (the British especially) or the UN we did things in a way that has left us with one group of people who quite rightly feel hard done by. The Israeli state was forced upon the people who lived in that region and it has left a legacy of trouble. Both sides behave in a way that does not lend itself to trust or peace.

Most of the countries in Africa and the Middle East never existed until colonial powers (mainly Britain & France) carved them up regardless of tribal or cultural geography and regardless of the consequences. India, Pakistan & Bangladesh being a prime example of a disastrous legacy of the British empire.

Forget about 3,000 years ago. There is a problem here and now and it will not be resolved unless the Palestinians and Israelis get together and work it out from a position of mutual respect. That means the Palestinians having their own state and the Palestinians recognizing Israel's right to exist.

  7. My GF's father and her brother have a few rai of farm land each. At harvest time they pay casual labour 250 THB a day to help with the harvest. The workers are all Thai locals. My GF always makes food for the workers and takes it down to the fields for them. They don't pay the minimum 300 THB a day but I suppose the free food makes up for that a wee bit. We are also in rural Phrae so the cost of living is a lot cheaper than in the cities.

  8. went to Bangkok last week and traveled back to the airport to miss the traffic jams well what a joke I understand that they have 2 types of trains fast through to airport and one that stops at every station on the way ,but on this occasion only the train that stops at each station was available ok that is not so bad but the train was full if you had lugage there would be no chance to get on .On arriving at the station a sign where you purchase the ticket NO FAST TRAINS OUT OF SERVICE.Money could be well spent on improving this service ,what a great way to start your vacation and your first impression of Thailand and you know what they say about frst impresions.

The express train has now been stopped. I used to catch it all the time and it was quick and there was always loads of room to sit. That was the problem. Hardly anyone used it so it wasn't commercially viable. Like you said, they need to improve the standard service. Add on a couple of carraiges and provide space for luggage. The problem when you arrive in Makasan is the lack of a taxi rank.

  9. now all the English "experts" can give their two centsclap2.gif

Yes you will find its called experience. We had it 40 odd years ago. Now it is almost eradicated. Do you have a problem with that ?.
It's never been eradicated. It just doesn't happen at the grounds any more. Gangs of "fans" still meet for a tear up.

The English quite rightly had a bad reputation for it and did a lot to make football grounds more family friendly by driving the hooligans out, but there are many countries where it is a problem and they don't seem to get the bad press the English get.

  10. The skybridge is the tube that you walk through when you get off the plane. There should be someone waiting at the end of it with your name on a card.

sustento is correct. You won't be able to miss them. I paid for VIP once and it was great not having to queue at immigration however, I just had longer to wait for my checked luggage. by the time it was on the carousel most of the people on my flight had made it through immigration. If you only have hand luggage then its nice and quick.

  11. Given the noted and documented atrocities, I don't think any sympathy is warranted.

The atrocities didn't end with WWII, and the Japanese weren't the only ones who committed them.

the scale of theirs was staggering

they even destroyed some of their own cities where mostly old people, women and children lived. don't recall the names nowadays but one sounded like Jirosheema, the other one Nakasaggi.

The Operation Meetinghouse air raid of 9–10 March 1945 was later estimated to be the single most destructive bombing raid in history but it was Tokyo; 100,000 plus killed,

    http://www.onlinemilitaryeducation.org/posts/10-most-devastating-bombing-campaigns-of-wwii/

But I really don't see that as a war crime. Japanese bombed the Allies and the Allies bombed the Japanese. The Japanese didn't do a very good job and the Allies did so the Allied powers won the war.

I think the original point from this sequence of posts was that as the victors, the allies tried the Nazis and the Japanese for war crimes. Had the war gone the other way then the axis powers would have tried the allies for events such as Hiroshima or the fire bombing of Dresden where tens of thousands of civilians died. The victors get to say what was a war crime and what was not.

    The horror.

  12. I still find it rather difficult to believe that some random militia group would have the knowledge to (1) initiate and calibrate targeting system, (2) acquire targeting, (3) relay targeting data to missile system, and (4) initiate a successful missile launch.

Hardly a random militia group. Many trained, supplied and advised by the Russians. There are also large numbers who defected from the Ukrainian army.

  13. An interesting article on the BBC web site for those still worried about flying.

    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-29636355

There is too much hysteria going around. Yes it is a serious outbreak and it needs to be contained but there seems to be a bit too much panic and fear being spread around. Oxfam are talking about it being the biggest humanitarian disaster of this generation. They would say that wouldn't they? They want governments to give them as much money as possible to allow them to continue to do the good work that they do. Putting things in perspective though it is not quite the humanitarian disaster of this generation just yet. Almost 5,000 dead over a 10 month period. The 2004 boxing day tsunami killed around 250,000 in a few hours and perfectly preventable diseases and malnutrition are killing hundreds if not thousands every day.

I find it perplexing and puzzling that some interpret the actions and words of others in relation to the Ebola Epidemic in West Africa as panic and fear - when mostly what is being discussed is just trying to understand what is going on, what is happening, what is the extent of it, what can be done to prevent the spread of Ebola, Etc.

What is being discussed on these several Ebola TVF topic threads is simply Who, What, When, Where, Why, How and How Much - How Many. Which is entirely prudent and reasonable. Being Proactive instead of being Reactive is not panic and fear - it is acting out of wisdom and experience as done by the various members. What is being done on these Ebola threads is attempts to become educated so as to become more aware of what the situation is and what might happen next - all from learning about what is actually going on with the Ebola outbreaks and epidemics.

I suggest that you go back up this thread and read the post I made referencing reports from WHO - the World Health Organization ... and then look around at their entire web site ... What is found there - done by professionals of the subject matter does not reflect your nonchalant manner about Ebola.

I apologise if my post insinuates that what is being posted on TVF is spreading panic and fear. I should have made it plain that I refer to sensational tabloid journalism or events like the guy in the US trying to board a plane in a haz mat suit. I am all for people sharing info and becoming more educated hence the link I posted. There was a post a few days back asking if people would feel safe flying so I am passing on some info that could allay any fears that some may have.

I believe that governments in the developed world are starting to take action on this only because of the huge public reaction (partly caused by ignorance and fear) and the fear of the disease spreading to their own countries. I don't believe for a minute that they are taking action to help prevent Africans dying. Just pointing out that thousands die every day of preventable things and our governments do nothing.

I don't mean to come across as being nonchalant. I'm just trying to provide a bit of perspective. There are a lot of things out there than can kill you. The question is, which ones have the highest risk? Ebola comes pretty low down on the scale.

  15. Welcome to the new order its called military rule and marshal law.wink.png

So you have evidence that the families claims are true?

They will be pleased, you should pass it on to them.

And do you have evidence that the "evidence" has been filed and stored correctly and is not being miss-appropriated by the soldiers?
Never said they hadn't. Just that I doubt the word of a scumbag drug dealers family. Especially where money is concerned. I could be wrong but....

I agree that drug dealers probably aren't the most honest and trustworthy citizens but I don't know this guy or his family. I don't know their history and as far as i'm aware he hasn't been convicted yet. I'm going to view each sides story with a level of distrust. Plenty of dishonest folks out there. Some of them in positions of authority and some of them in uniform.

Evidence? Not tainted or manipulated in Thailand?

Such childish demands from the newly emerging army apologists in TV are an exercise in futility.

For the information of the army apologists (Amazing Farangs in Thailand) the dozens of Bangladeshis who were recently freed from the army traffickers are retained in Thailand and the District commissioner is demanding of the central government that the army brass doing the trafficking be punished.

Want evidence? Search for it and do not take the easy, lazy way of putting the onus on other people's shoulders.

So who is the army apologist? It is certainly not Khwaibah. I've never got the impression that Bluespunk was and I know that I am not.

I am going to take your advice. I am going to go and interrogate the soldiers and the family. Then I am going to get some warrants and inspect where all of the evidence has been stored. Then I am going to check the bank accounts in question to see if there has been any cash withdrawn since the cards were confiscated. I think I will get a warrant for all CCTV footage while I am at it.

I've been so childish and lazy. I am going to stop speculating and get out there and get to the bottom of this case. clap2.gifcheesy.gif

  17. There is a reason why the US and Canada are in dispute about the North West Passage. The US claims the waters are international and the Canadians claim them for Canada. With the Panama canal almost maxed out the NWP is an alternative route for commercial shipping. Why? Because all the ice has melted.
