  1. Sorry been off grid for a bit, not good for an OP, apology WS. Also alot of good stuff & advice.

Ok, wife & sister often argue & don't speak until sister wants something, so wife not bothered if I lose my rag with sister. Once again, she lived in Switzerland for 20 years, so as far as I am concerned she understands ferang land.

So, jet wash returned, money for service paid & key to house returned & I have banned sister from house.

This will be until she wants something again !

  2. Yo would say I agree with you all, only to be expected. In my defence I did not know that the wife had left the car at her sisters as she left after me. When she told me, I knida knew what would happen, but I thought 25,000 km was a little excessive. If the jet-wash was isolated, I would have let it go.

BTW sister lived in Switzerland for 20 years, so has plenty of cash, plus she has her own car

Not sure if 25,000 km is excessive, but at least she looked after it for you. Better than leaving it on the street for 5 months and coming back to no car at all.

Know what you mean, but it has always been left locked up, behind locked gates, with security at the entrance, never any problems. My wife is pissed about it too, although won't say anything, but she should have known when her sister suggested that the car be left with her for safety !

I don't mind people borrowing the car and I have a few friends in Pattaya (Thai) who I have let borrow the car before, but they call and ask if they need it. They have also lent me their cars in the past, so I have no trouble with them borrowing mine.

  3. Quick background, been coming to Thailand for 30 years, married 27 and been coming regularly for vacations, length increasing and possible retirement sometime this year. I did work in Bangkok for two years, the point of this is I know a little of the country and its people.

We just arrived in Thailand after five months away and for the first time my wife left our car at her sisters home in North Bangkok. We arrived, picked up the car and after a mile or two, I noticed that the mileometer was reading 25,000 km more than when we left.

Got home and wanted to jet-wash the yard, plus some other jobs, where's the jet-wash ?, sister has it, using it for her new "construction" business, so it's probably knackered.

Told the wife to inform sister,

Pay for service, plus half cost of new brake pads
Return jet-wash immediately, today, or I buy a new one and she pays the cost

Wife says she needs it for her job ! Plus she would have to drive from Nong Jok to Pattaya (5 hour round trip).

Her sister has always taken the piss, but now she has surpassed herself, am I being unreasonable ?

  4. Those who move here full-time but don't get stuck here (by building a house, etc) usually end up going back home eventually. That's why you see so many TV members disappearing from the forum on an ongoing basis. That and Mr Toad annoys them.

Then there are those who stay. They are stuck here, or they have nothing to go home to. Then there are the few who fit in with Thais, like it here, and stay here until they die.

By the way, pay no attention to MrToad. He's a meany.

I'm in a mean mood today

Is that a mean mood or a meany mood Mr Toad ?

  5. After pushing the button at one of Pattaya's pedestrian controlled panda crossings do not expect it to work. None do, they are all broken or have been switched off. A totally corrupt local administration that spent millions in installing these state if the art crossings only to never use them.

But they got their cut from the installation cost, so "job done", sadly there's no money in the maintenance

  6. I guess that you have alot of different factors coming in. Firstly GPS can mis-calculate positions and dont forget that your phone, or SatNav does not have precision-grade GPS receivers, so the signal can be affected by the environment.

Secondly the map data is usually acquired from different sources throughout the world, so different standards and accuracies. An urban, western environment will have far more data available than rural, remote parts of the world.

Regarding planning of routes. The systems will be giving different routes and timings due to the data and software and the parameters you set. If the data is not structured properly, then the links and nodes joining the data will give different routes and timings.

  7. The LAW in Thailand as in most countries states that if walking on the road you must walk against the Oncoming Traffic. Any person who doesn't do this is an idiot.

Safe practice but not the "LAW".

I am from rural England, lots narrow, winding roads. Walking against traffic is best, but sometimes you need to use your loaf & change sides in sharp bends where a car cannot see you head on. All about common sense.

  8. "Former top investigator may surrender, police say"

Well how jolly, jolly nice of him. What a decent fellow he is.

Perhaps he may later deign to attend his trial on the days when interesting evidence is being given.

If found guilty he could set up a schedule for those days he can spend in gaol, say one or two days a month when he's not busy, on holiday or otherwise occupied.

Well, that's my dose of sarcasm for the day ! Thanks BP. clap2.gif

Come on, he's a busy chap and in the grand scheme of things all he forgot to do was pay off the right person, we all screw up on occasion
