Was a bit confused there. From the first paragraph about growing mangosteen, I started reading the second paragraph thinking you were talking about pomegranate (tubtim) trees. That was until I rembered that taptim are also red tilapia.

Trying to understand a Thai family situation?
GarryP replied to Gee Bangkok's topic in Family and Children
None of my business, but how long have you been married? Seems there is a lot your are only now learning about. I would be pretty uspet, if it were me. -
Thanks. I'll check into that. No watering would be great. I don't mind mowing/cutting but I find watering so boring.

What grass is that? Early next year I will move into my new house and will have to start on the garden. Want a small lawn too. Malaysian grass does not seem to be hardy enough, based on the lawn at my current abode. Doesn't handle shade well either.

"there is alos the problem if hiring staff who come and go often, the foreman often can only get the dregs locally." But they don't hire locally, as in the same district/town. The project managers/contractors hire specific teams that serve that region. Teams that handle only foundations/footings and other concrete parts, teams that only handle roofing, tiling teams, etc. That is unlesss you hire the local jack of all trades to build your house, in which case you really can't blame anyone. You get what you pay for.

I had Rezum last October and am happy with the results.

Off topic. My father, who is 90, has been suffering from side effects to medicines for a number of years and the combination has led to a number of stomach issues, including gastrointestinal perforation requiring surgery. It is believed that this was a result of BPH and BP meds, including blood thinners. He's off the BPH meds now thanks to TURP nearly 2 years ago, but is still having issues with blood thinners and statins. Luckily, he gets all his meds on the NHS so not out of pocket expense.

In my current house we have PP-R piping and it is set in the floor and embedded in AAC blocks. So far 10 years and absolutely no problems with leaks. I had no involvement in this house build. I just bought my townhouse from the developer in Bangkok. However, for my new house which will be built upcountry I was planning on doing something similar. The pipes will be embedded in the floor and will then go up in the cavity walls to the outlets. Still not sure about monkey bars. Will be looking into that soon.

Forgot that today is a government holiday so no one answered my call to the Tessaban. The land we are building on was filled with additional earth two years ago. A local civil engineer said that if we go with footings below the fill depth and road level, we should be fine with just footings. However, that was just mentioned in passing quite a while ago. We'll give the Tessaban another call on Monday.

Thanks for the suggestion. We'll call them this afternoon. Embarrassed that I did not think of this myself. My (poor) excuse is that I am in Bangkok and the house will be built in Kalasin.

I am having a house built in Kalasin and was planning on using driven piles, but from my experience with the neighbour (a senior policeman who is full of his own self importance) when building the land retaining wall, driven piles are out of the question. As such, it is either going with footings or bored piles for my single storey house. Perhaps I am being overly worried/cautious but I believe that even though it would be more costly, bored piles would be the best option. Has anyone had any experience with bored piles and if so which company would you recommend. Someone posted on this subject a shortwhile ago, but despite my best attempts I have not been able to find the post. Any recommendations/suggestions would be appreciated.

Story Of My Thai Citizenship Application

I had one issue at the Land Departmment in Somdej. When I went to register the purchase of land with my wife, a junior Land Department officer could not believe/accept that I was Thai despite handing over my ID card and house registration. She then scuttled off (with me close behind) to check with her boss who smiled and said everything was fine as the documents proved that I was Thai. After that, everything went smoothly. Never had any other issues. -

It does seem that leaders around the world are facing the same thing. Declining popularity as a result of worsening economies and inflation as a result of covid, Ukraine and corporate gouging. I do not believe that most of the leaders would be facing this problem if the global economy was still on track. Probably the worst time to become a leader in most countries. -

Experienced it myself this morning. Didn't even get the usual notification that my salary had been credited to my account. Still managed to do a couple of transactions after repeated attempts though. -

Let's have a look at those Islamic countries such as Egypt, Iraq and Iran. Before the extreme Islamists came to power, women were free to wear what they wanted in those countries. Women are fighting for their right not to wear head coverings in Iran to this day and being locked up for it. They even have religious police to make sure everyone follows the edicts issued by the Islamic leaders. Now tell me that all the women in thse countries wear head coverings because they wish to. Only when all Islamic countries allow freedom of dress should the nijab be allowed in secular countries. Also, with indoctrination since childhood, it is no wonder some women say that it is their choice. They don't know any better.
