That is not required for a non-o visa based upon marriage to a Thai. It is only needed for one based upon retirement.

My suggestion is to apply for the non-o visa online to the embassy in London. It is easy to get one based upon marriage. Only about the equivalent of 20k baht in the bank is needed to apply.

That way you would have more time to open a Bank account here. You will need 400k baht in a Thai for 2 months or proof of at least 2 months of transfers of at least 40k baht from abroad.

I thought that insurance was required for all types of Visa since 2019.  When my friend fill out is COE in March, they were asking for insurance and he had a Marriage Visa.  I am confused.

Kor Ror 2 update, within a month before the application of the VISA extension. make it simple - your wife goes to the local amphur with her Thai ID card; you don't have to be present there. it is an update of a Thai national on the marital status to the civil registrar. we did it in Bangkhen, Bangkok, it costed us THB10.

in the last ten++ extensions, never asked for the Kor Ror 2 update. last year we prepared it for the first time for just-in-case. we brought the Kor Ror 2 update with the original Kor Ror 2 and Kor Ror 3 and copies, the IO said the update not need if the original is shown. I guest up to the practice of individual IO officer / office. if you don't need to drive 800km, just prepare the Kor Ror 2 update (for just-in-case) !

Thank you very much for the info.

2 or 3 years ago CW/BKK for a marriage VISA extension, two photos outside-the-house (right in front of the door) rejected since they didn't show the house number; and asked to come back next day with new photos. I neatly printed a BIG house number from the printer and taped it next to the door, reshot the photos; then it was alright. we keep that printed number next to the door till today.

Thank you very much for the info.

You get a single entry non-o visa based upon marriage the allows one 90 day entry and is valid to use for 3 months from the date of issue. The you can apply for a one year extension of stay based upon marriage during the last 30 days of the 90 day entry.

All houses have a house number assigned to them that appears on page one of the blue house book issued for it. You just need  to to make small sign to show the number for the photo. Or if there is a mailbox in front of the house you can get some stick on numbers to put on it.

Thank you very much ubonjoe for your always valuable information.

    No problem.

Any amphur will supply a copy for a fee of 20 Baht.

Your Wife just has to show her ID card.

BTW you are not applying for a Visa.

Not at the moment, I'll need one for October and I was debating if I should get a retirement Visa as I did in the past or get a marriage Visa.  The marriage Visa is good for 3 months and before it ends I can apply for a one year extension.  I have the 400k in the bank, that's not a problem and I printed the list that ubonjoe put on TV, some of it is pretty ridiculous, like a photo of you and your wife in the house or the house number, even in big cities they only have a few and in my wife's village or the neighboring villages, there are none.  Somebody also mentioned that different offices have different rules, I wonder why they are not on the same page.  Right now, I am trying to get as much information from people with experience with that type of Visa so I can choose the one which would be best for me for my trip in the Fall.

The 400k baht has to be in the bank for 2 months on the day you apply for the extension. It would have to of been in the bank on March 25th to be the correct day.

Here is my list of documents for the extension. Marriage Extension Requirements 2.pdf

My wife lives in a small village about 30kms from Nakhon Phanom and nobody in the village has a house number and my marriage was registered at the Banglamung Amphur (Pattaya) this means I will have to drive 800kms one way to update my Kor Ror 2.  It sucks.  There is an Immigration Office in Nakhon Phanom, I wonder if they could make things a little easier for me.  Thanks for your help.

  7. When I got married in Thailand in 2011, I went to the Canadian Embassy in Bangkok, fill out a few papers, the lady asked me a few questions then sent me to a translation office nearby.  The lady at the translation office was very nice, asked me a few questions, filled out more paperwork, she sent the paperwork to a legal office.  When everything was done they sent it to my address in Pattaya.  After I got it, I went to the Amphur in Banglamung to sign the final papers.  They gave me two Marriage Certificates, one in English and one in Thai, my wife got one in Thai.  Everything cost me about $ 300.00 Cdn, if I remember correctly.  My wife is from Nakhon Phanom and I was never married before.  Everything went pretty smoothly.

    800k retirement.

    400k marriage.

Thank you very, very much, because in my case it is very important to know, normally I get the retirement Visa as I come to Thailand only 5-6 months a year and spend the rest of the year at home even though I am married to a Thai lady. I make 2 years out of it but it is more expensive and a lot more paperwork, and I don’t need 800k in the Bank in my case, but 400k is very doable, I have no problem with that.  Your help is greatly appreciated.

You can apply for a one-year extension as your first extension, and I recommend you do so unless there is a good reason to do otherwise. The 60-day extension (only allowed once per entry into Thailand) is useful insurance that you can use at any time when there is a problem with the long term extension.

For the one year extension, do I need 400 or 800K in the Bank for 2 months? Thank you very much,

For a 1 year extension of stay based on marriage using funds in a Thai bank account, the requirement is 400K for 2 months prior to the date of application.

You can apply for a 60 day extension in order to season the 400K for 2 months prior to applying for the 1 year extension if you require more time.

The account must be in your sole name.

Before my 2-month extension expires, if I want a one-year extension, I need 800K in the Bank to my name for 2 months.  Is that correct?  Thank you very much for your help.

That is the correct one to select if you applied for the non-o visa based upon retirement.

Maybe the question has been asked before but I can’t find it. If I have a Non-O Visa based on marriage, it is good for 3 months.  If I want an extension, do I need to apply for a 2-month extension first and for a year after or I can apply for a year for the first extension?  And how much money do I need in the Bank?  Thank you very much for your always very helpful answers.

Valid to enter Thailand 3 months from the date of issue.

On entry granted 90 days permission of stay. You can extend that 90 day permission of stay by a further 60 days based on Thai wife.

You can also extend it for a further 1 year, if you meet the financial requirements.

Thank you very much for the info.  How much is the financial requirement for 1 year?  Is it 400k or 800k and for how long? How much is it for the extension?  Thank you very much for your help and valuable information.

It could be that he got the extension back when some immigration officers at airports were incorrectly denying entry with many tourist visa and visa exempt entries.

Another option other than a extension might be a multiple entry non-o visa based upon marriage. As far as I know the embassy and official consulates are still issuing them.

Is a single entry non-o visa based on marriage good for 6 months or one year?  Thanks in advance ubonjoe.

Sounds like he's new, hasn't been here very long, hasn't yet learned that he's a foreigner, it's not his country, he's just a guest here and has no rights whatsoever, and he must never get angry, or lose his temper and raise his voice to his gracious Thai hosts as it's their country and they can do just what they please and it's none of his business.

I don't know what you smoke but must be some good stuff.

I assume you will be applying for a new extension of stay (it is not a visa) next month. You can enter the country with a valid extension of stay and a re-entry permit.

If you have not been extending a entry from a OA visa you will need the $100,000 covid 19 insurance valid to the day your extension ends to apply for a certificate of entry.

If entry was from a OA visa you will need 40/400k baht medical insurance when you enter the country also.

It might have been answered before but I have seen conflicting answer regarding health insurance. I plan on going to Thailand in January on a TR (single entry)  Do I require a health insurance for that type of Visa or only the COVID-19 insurance?  Thank you very much for your help.

  16. 22 hours ago, ubonjoe said:

That is not mandatory unless they have a OA or OX visa entry.

So, if I apply only for Tourist Visa, single entry, I only need the insurance for $ 100,000 USD, which I can get through the link mentioned.  Am I correct?  If it is the case, it is great news.  Can you confirm please.  Thanhs a million ubonjoe for your great help as always

Just sent money from Canada to Bangkok.  Usually no more than 30 minutes.  For CAD999.95 there is a fee of CAD22.50 and if required WU will notify recipient by e-mail when the money is available and when it can be picked up.  The fee is a little expensive but it is always on time.  Unfortunately, that was sent from my bank a/c not through a WU agency and such transfers are limited to CAD1000 for one day then must wait to be able to send more funds.  Not sure of those details or if same conditions apply for other countries.

    'nuf sed.

I send money from my CIBC Bank account in Canada with "Global Transfer" free of charge (maximun $15,000.00 a day) to my Bangkok Bank account in Thailand, then from my account to my wife's account with Internet,  Takes about one day.
