  1. Why take a chance? If you do, it *might* be challenged by the air lines denying you permission to board. It only takes one zealous air line or Immigration employee to spoil your happy day...

If you decide to roll the dice, good luck smile.png

I had that problem about 3-4 years, they refused me at JFK airport because I didn't have 6 months left in my passport although I was going to Thailand for one month only. I had to go back to Toronto, Canada, paid for a very expensive return ticket, as it was at the last minute, I learned my lesson the hard way.

  2. You can go with Bell at a cost of 200 Bahts, they pick you up at you address or there is a bus that leaves from Jomtien for 134 Bahts, takes about 1 1/2 hr, pretty good if you ask me.

biggrin.png The bus (134 bahts) that leaves from Jomtien is the one I was referring to in my first post and I also said it takes 1h30' but our Swiss1960 friend here claims that no no no, it takes 2 hours, lol. Maybe the front and the back of the bus don't run at the same speed ? Or could it be that Swiss people are just a little bit slower, as per their reputation ? whistling.gif

Dunno, but I've been taking that bus ever since it started operating and on 95% of the rides the drive time was 1h30' (often closer to 1h20' actually) with of course, exceptions when the road is very crowded (especially on weekends). At the moment (low season plus political situation) the road is not crowded.

You are right about the time as I have taken it many times, it is only 125km from the bus terminal to the airport. As you said, if it is crowded it takes a little bit longer, but in my case, so far, so good. (1 1/2hrs max)

  3. There was a time one used to get paid good money to sit around and watch rice grow.

    "Good money"?

Do have any idea what you are writing about?

    Ridicolous.

    Sir/Ma'am,

I've seen Thai farm assistants watch cows eat grass as it grows, for real good money!! Your 'Ridicolous' reply is ridiculous.

The only reason why the employment is low is because they use 10 people to do a one man job. In my country, it is maximum production with minimum manning, that is why the unemployment rate is about 7-8%.

  4. I had the same problem last week, arrived at DM and had to go to The big airport, because I did not have my onward ticket etc etc, they would not let me on an empty bus ?? I offered to pay, but was told NO..

    Useless or what..

I ended up taking a taxi which was ok... But if the bus is going there and there is empty seats ?? What's the problem, I was happy to pay...

Last April I came back from Nakhon Phanom with Air Asia, I showed them the ticket for that trip because I didn't know what they wanted and they let me on the bus. Maybe I got lucky.

  5. Ubonjoe, you are the expert on the subject matter. I am also from Canada and I was wondering why we have to pay for a re-entry permit if we leave the country before the expiry date. I had a non-immigrant OA wit multiple entries before and as long as I came back one day before the expiry date, they stamped me a one year extension free of charge. So I don't see any reasons why we should have to pay for a re-entry permit when we pay for multiple entries, but for Thailand, nothing suprises me anymore. More money for the government, I guess, same as back home. Ubonjoe, your comments are always appreciated. Keep up the good work.

A re-entry permit is to enter Thailand; you don't need it to leave Thailand.

With a multiple-entry non-O/A visa you do not need a re-entry permit to enter Thailand before the expiration (enter before) date of your visa. You seem to have got it all wrong.

Sent from my Nexus 4 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Each O-A I've had, I've made sure it was a Multiple-entry, especially as I'm in/out of the country 3-4 times a year. Never had, or been asked for a re-entry permit.

As for the initial visa. Dear Old (now departed) Dad applied for his O-A at the consulate in Vancouver (back in '08). He was able to use the bank statements from his Canadian account as proof of sufficient funds. After getting to Thailand (and getting a Thai bank account) he took my advice and put 800k into a savings account and never touched it. When he applied for his extensions in the following years, there was obviously no problem with satisfying the income requirement.

Read para five of this site. http://www.thaiembassy.ca/en/visiting-thailand/visas/types-visas-periods-stay-fees/non-immigrant-visa-temporary-residents. That is what confuses me. It clearly states that if you leave before 1 year without a re-entry permit, the permit to stay for one year shall be considered void. If this link does not open, click on the one written by Ubonjoe.

  6. If you want to keep your money in Canada you could apply for a OA visa at the embassy in Ottawa or the consulate in Vancouver. Info on OA is here on embassy website: http://www.thaiembassy.ca/en/visiting-thailand/visas/types-visas-periods-stay-fees/non-immigrant-visa-temporary-residents

.You cannot apply for a visa in Udon. You can apply for a one year extension of stay but you will need 800k baht in a Thai bank for 60 days or 65k baht income proven by a statutory declaration done at the embassy in Bangkok.

You will need a non-o visa to a to apply for the extension. Since you are in Udon I suggest you go to Vientiane to get it.

You could also do a conversion to to a 90 day non immigrant visa entry form a visa exempt or tourist visa entry at immigration in Bangkok (possibly 2 trips) if you have a least 15 day remaining on your entry.

  7. I must admit, I've acclimatised.

But I've also dropped 10 kgs and that has helped.

Pat, are you a + size fella?

Not trying to be smart ... just asking.

No, I'm not, I'm just under 6ft and 90 kgs, so around 5kgs over, just hate this heat.

I am 5'9" and 72kgs and the heat doesn't bother me but the cold does, maybe I am too skinny.

  8. Why do you think it wasn't actual police officers? They are paid diddly squat and have to support their families somehow.

They get paid what they deserve, sweet f..k all. Most of them are corrupted and useless. Everytime I make a trip up North I get arrested (speeding, no radars) 200 Bahts in their pockets (tea money) I am getting very ticked off and that is one of the reasons why I have no use for them. I could add the scams on the beach in Pattaya with seadoo rentals, most people know about it.

  9. Flomax, perhaps?.. There might and probably is a Thai equivalent.

India? Surgery? Have you ever been there? I had the opportunity to work there for four years and nothing I saw instilled any measure of confidence in hygiene, which would be high on my list of requirements for people that would have there fingers on my insides.. Will listen to arguments of the contrary.

Thanks for advice,I will try the Palmetto first.

India? what to say,yep been there many times for knee ops, investigations etc, everything from hearing aids, laser eye surgery so so good, not that Im into the last two yet,but comparing prices here and there I will be off there if and when.

India can be and is a dump, but hospital/medical care is second to none

In Canada, they gave me a pill called Apo-Tamsulosin CR 0.4MG, it takes a while to be effective (ask a qualified pharmacist) but it seems to work.

  10. Public buses are driving way to fast, same as other commercial vehicle like pick up truck. I completely approve the speed up check on the main road and if some people are not happy with that, the live saved totally justified them.

Btw, I find the big truck drivers very professional, always giving you information on the way ahead when you want to pass them. Credit should be given when credit is due.

Big truck drivers are very professional. Cannot be talking about Thailand,

  11. lemme see. If I left a 20b tip every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner that totals Bt.21,900 per year....... Yeah I got better things to do with that money than just give it away.

Those poor people would just waste it on food and rent anyway.

Well if they didn't blow their salary on booze and drugs they would already have money for food and rent.

Spoonman, I didn't know that you could add, you must have at least primary school education, congratulation. Now you can go rut in hell.

  12. I usually balance my tips at some where between 0% and 0% of the final bill depending on service provided.

Cheap bastards like you should stay home and eat out of your garbage can. They should have a minimum of 10% added to the bill so guys like you would have to dish it out.

Sutherp, I wish you, every success to your quest.

We are all behind you, voters or non voters.

All TVF, members are with you, even if they pretend they support the red shirts, Thaksin or Yingluck.

Because everybody wants this country, that we all love, to go forward and get rid of the vermin, holding us back.

GOOD LUCK to you and your supporters.

Costas 2008 you are like Sutherp a freaking idiot, you don't have a clue about politics. Thailand is a corrupted country, has been for decades and it is never going to change, so put that in your pipe and smoke it

Well, Thai people, young and old, seem to enjoy it. They sure did here, yesterday and the day before. There is also the option of moving back to one's home Country, if one doesn't like it and hates it that much.

Personally, I enjoy it, up to a point and then I just go inside and do work on my computer, in my nice, air conditioned place. I love to see Thai people and some of the foreigners have fun at Songkran time.

We always donate water to keep everybody loaded with "ammo"

I personally don't enjoy the ice water, but a lot of Thai people seem to get a kick out of it and the screams are fun to listen too.

I would not want to be anywhere else in the world, this time of year.

I think, this event, at this scale at least, is unique to Thailand and I think that is great. wai2.gif

I think that you are a freaking idiots like most of those Thai.

  15. Dentists are rip offs, it doesn't matter where you go or where you are, and if you have insurance like I do in Canada they try to take advantage of it. I had a few choice words with mine, told him he was a croock and I wasn't going to pay for his mansion and his big car. He was trying to do some unnecessary work and I told him that if I needed specific work I would let him know or I would get it done in Thailand where it is much cheaper. (Ex. a crown: $950 Cdn Thailand: $300 Cdn, teeth cleanup $ 150 Cdn Thailand: $ 20 Cdn) Those are just a few exemples, I go to the dentist twice a year back home because I have bad teeth and my insurance covers 80% of it, that's the only reason why I go frequently, otherwise I would let them rot.

  16. I made my funeral arrangements back home in Canada about 6 years ago and I took an insurance from the funeral home. If I die anywhere away from home they will repat my body back home from anywhere in the world.

  17. Thai ladies have 2 great qualities, they are hypocrits and liars, I know I married one but I already knew how they were. Yes they take you for a bank machine, if you tell them that you have little money they don't believe you. I go home for the summer and when I question her about what she does with the money I gave her, may as well talk to a wall you get a better answer. Also if you want to get your marriage recognize by both countries, you have to go through your Embassy and at the end you do the final paper work at the Amphur, a Boudhist marriage is worthless in your and her country, no paper work. As far as the dowry is concern, go on the Internet on Google and they give you some ideas what the parents should get. In my case, she had lost both her parents so I didn't have to pay anything, lucky me, this way, I didn't have to support the whole family, which I wouldn't have done anyway. Good luck and maybe you should bail out before it is too late. They are thousands of those chicks on the loose in Thailand.
