They found 38 scratches, dents on the tracks...........they now know the tracks may be substandard and need to be replaced with real steel, not the cheap chinese stuff.  No deportation, fined and jailed for not having a work permit since he is making money in Thailand and not paying taxes.

Where did you read that they found 38 scratches, dents on the tracks?  And obviously somebody have to much time on their hands and if it is true, I agree it must be made of cheap Chinese metal.

I was putting nickels on railroad track in the early 1970's in Florida. Granted I was about 8 years old, out there with a 14 year old brother that put me up to it.

That seems to be Nate's target audience.

Yes it's illegal to trespass on rail lines. The guy got a 5,000 baht fine.

Case closed. He's a retard, YES, but he paid his fine. Leave him alone I say.

So you must be a retard as well for doing the same thing regardless of your age.  What is good for the goose is good for the gander.

Definitely deported. People don't see the dangers of his pranks. Eg imagine if your family were up on the train and that train derailed due to the coins being placed on the tracks causing death or serious injuries to a fast moving train, let's see if you would sum it as a youthful prank or nothing wrong with it attitude.

Are you for real?  How is it going to derail a train by putting a coin on the tracks?  Have you seen any fast moving trains in Thailand?  Only in your dream.  Did he kill anybody?  I don't understand why people get so worked up over such a menial issue.  Road deaths seems to be less important than putting a coin on a track.  Get a life people.

  5. I don't know why is everybody so worked up about something so menial.  Did he make a train derail or something? Did somebody died or get hurt because of his action?  I don't think so.  But if he had given brown envelopes to the proper authorities, nothing would have come out of it like nothing is going to the Red Bull heir who killed a policeman.  This is Thailand, where there are no laws, only suggestions.

A siren does not automatically give you right of way.

The pickup driver could be deaf (not part of the driving test) and he was on a green light apparently.

I don't know which country you are from but in my civilized country if the ambulance has his siren going and lights flashing you better give it the right-of-way or be ready to pay a heavy fine if you are caught.

Great contribution. Really original stuff. Can't count the number of times I have seen that worthless comment. We are talking about education in Thailand not the drugs you might normally use.

You must be one of the new young generation Thaivisa members referred to by Thaivisa bossman Dan Cheeseman?

`If you don't like my comments just don't read them.  Have a nice day.  And by the way where is your contribution Mister Know it All?

"No Thai institute is on the prestigious 100-institute list. The rankings are based on the views of experienced published scholars..."

Once the rest of the world gets its head out of the sand and understands Thainess, they will place Thai universities on top of the rankings.

I'm sure if they ranked violence among higher education institutes, Thai technical schools would sweep the top 10 spots and leave the rest of the world in its wake.

What have you been smoking?  I don't know what it is but must be good stuff.

  9. Many people compare apples with oranges, of course it's a lot cheaper in Thailand, all you have to do is look at their monthly income, it's all relative.  Does anybody think that if they had the same salary, they would live in fancy condos, go to restaurants everyday, go to big hospitals such as Bangkok hospital with no health insurance? No, so stop comparing apples with oranges.  That was my thought for the day.

precisely   so how would you know they are useless  ??

They are freakin useless.  How long have you been in this country anyway? Maybe if you remove your pink glasses you might see what is going on in this backward, corrupted country.

Thai driving licence valid all over the world, what? You mean if you drive a car in lets say in Norway and the police stop you and you just show your Thai Driving licence and everything will be fine.

I will be going to Indonesia as I said in the post. I mean it is clearly stated all over the internet that Thai licence is valid in all ASEAN countries so it has to be ok in Indonesia then. I just would feel more comfortable if someone who rented a car in Bali with a Thai licence could give confirmation to this?

I don't know about Norway, but I know in Canada you can drive with a Thai driver's license for up to 3 months I believe.

  12. Anybody on this post that agrees that the truck driver has the right to do what he is doing, either he/she is blind or lunatic.  There is no ifs or buts, the truck driver is 100% in the wrong.  In any countries in the world (except Thailand of course) when you come from a secondary road, you stop, then proceed when it is safe to do so.  I have driven thousands of kms in Thailand over the pass 15 years and it is a nightmare the way they drive, half of them, maybe more, shouldn't have a driver's license or be on the road.  Many times I avoided head on collision because they think that they own the road.  On a 2 lane road, they think that the two solid lines on the road is just to mark the center of the road because if they decide to overtake a vehicle, regardless if somebody is coming, many times they'll do it anyway, that's your job to move out of the way.  That's the Thai mentality, they want to see Buddha before they get to old.

The answer to most of those questions is a big NO. If you hate it so much you just had an entire year to plan and go somewhere else and make plans to not be on your bike for 3 short days in BKK and even then the morning is very dry and after 11 pm or so it's dry. What I think some haters should do is buy a big super soaker tonight maybe the 5500 model and go out tomorrow and the next day and and take some of your pent up anxiety out on the revelers you hate so much. I have never had such a therapeutic day after finally staying in Thailand for Songkran 2 years ago and last year. It's so fun and everybody is in such a great mood. I highly suggest Silom because it has a great mix of people and I have not seen anyone that drunk at all. It's truly good clean fun.  All ages participate.

BTW I would never stay indoors for a blizzard either. I love those 60 centimeter New England snow storms.

You mean all those drunken idiots are having fun, next time you go to the doctor, do me a favor and get you head checked.  You haven't seen anyone that drunk, obviously you never came to Pattaya where those idiots are having it for 10+ days and not three the way it should be.  Have a nice day.

Bizarrely inaccurate news article that tries to make fun of a pretty ugly accident.

The car didn't 'smash' into the train, but drifted. It didn't try to 'run the crossing'. Driver was probably looking at his/her phone and didn't notice the car drifting.

It was the back-seat passenger (apparently) not the driver that was thrown out - and it certainly doesn't look like 'no one was hurt'.

There was no barrier - only lights.

You are the bizarre one, when was the last time you went to an eye doctor to get you eyes checked? Check the video again and then you might see exactly what happen and if you can't make a decent analysis, maybe you should zip it.  Just a thought.
