Do you want to say that 4 Mbit/s is just good enough for chatting?
It's even good enough for decent video quality (youtube 480p and maybe even 720p/30) and many other applications.
If fixed line fails...
Agree 4MPS is pretty usable for most things. My comment was because some of the teacher/student chat apps used by online schools need a lot of bandwidth to be stable enough for online classes. Those schools will check the teacher's connectivity - so not positive 4MPS will satisfy that.

FYI AIS and DTAC both recently started unlimited wireless broadband packages. 4Meg/second is about 600 baht/month. That might be fast enough for chatting. 1Meg/second is about 400 baht/month.
Weekly packages are under 200 baht so not expensive to give it a try.

You cannot get or need an account in New York.
You use your Bangkok Bank account number here to do transfer to here using the New York branches routing number.
Info here
Ubon dude: I've been trying to learn this from my BKK Bank branch for more than a year! Your answer justifies all the membership fees I've paid to ThaiVisa over the years :-)
Thanks!

Easy solution to keeping cabbies honest - have phone camera ready and if there is any resistance to dropping the meter snap a picture of their license/photo on the dash. That's exactly what it's there for. Drivers are well aware of the laws and don't want a hassle with police. This works for me 100% of the time.

I just got my Thai drivers license which has my passport number on it as my "ID number".
Is the Thai drivers license valid ID in lieu of a Passport?
For example, can I board a domestic flight or check into a hotel with just my Thai drivers license?
If asked for ID by a police officer will they be satisfied with my Thai drivers license?
Thanks,

Does anyone have any more recent experience in getting a Residency Certificate at Jomtien ?
You used to have to go into the small office way in the back and submit your request and then come back the next day to pick it up. I was told when I did my 90 day report last week that they have a new counter, directly across the room from the "overstay desk", and they no longer keep the documentation but process your request while you wait
But since the young lady manning that desk could not speak any English I obtained this information from the Volunteer at the information counter to the left of the entrance. Unfortunately he was swamped so could not answer all my questions and the two most important ones were; where do you obtain the queue number for Residency Certificate desk ? And can you pre- fill in the APPLICCATION FORM RESIDENCE CERTIFICATE IN THAILAND ?
I got a residency certificate from Jomtien immigration less than a week ago. Very easy and took 20 minutes from the time I walked in the door. I recommend you get the photocopies made next door - they know exactly which pages are required for various immigration applications.

What's the current process to get a Thai license in Pattaya with following setup;
Have a valid international license issued in USA
Have a valid California license
Have a "retirement visa" and residency certificate recently issued
Have a health certificate and passport photos to supply
I'd like motorbike and car if possible. What's the process? Will I need to take exams?
Thanks,

Jomtien immigration has been reported as doing certificates of residence with on proof you are renting a condo.
Thanks everyone - what I'm trying to understand is if I get a residency permit in Jomtien will that effect my residence in CM which is my primary residence?
Thanks again,

My retirement visa and residency is in Chiang Mai, but recently rented a get-away condo in Jomtien. I lease both the Chiang Mai and Jomtien condos.
I'd like to register a newly purchased motorbike in Jomtien which requires a residency certificate. I'll use the bike in Pattaya/Jomtien
How do residency certificates work for people who stay in more than one city? Can I just get a certificate at the jomtien immigration without messing up my Chiang Mai residency?
Thanks

Take 1/2 of what you have? Of course not!
She could easily take it all.

Is the immigration office that does Reentry permits at Suvarnabhumi dependably open 24 hours?
I'm on a retirment visa and need to travel on short notice - hoping I don't have to deal with the immigration office in Chiang Mai.

If you are flying into Phuket that could be part of the problem. They have a history of taking people to the side that should not be bothered.
If your family is Thai you could get a multiple entry non-o visa that would allow you unlimited 90 day entries for a year.
I really don't know why anyone bothers to make posts about immigration questions once Ubonjoe has responded. His groc of the system seems definitive.
Ubon dude- you've given some great help over the years. I hope you know how much you are appreciated.

DipStick - cool thank you. I couldn't figure out all the mechanics of visa, subway, and ferry but I think you've clarified.
Chiang Mai to HK such an easy flight it's tempting, and not seeing any dirct flights to Guangzhou or other airports in the region. Was really hoping to avoid BKK but sounds like little choice.
Thanks for clarifying.
Best regards,

I would like to do a liveabord trip to the Similans - I'm a long term resident so flexible on trip timing.
Any last minute deals out there before the Similan dive season ends? Please send me a PM.
Thanks!

Outcome - I was introduced to a terrific visa services agent who came to my condo to pickup my passport and returned the next day with a new 90 renewal in my passport. Due again in 90 days.
She charged 300 baht including pickup and delivery and does all other kinds of visa services in Chiang Mai. PM me for her contact info.

Tourists can't just come and do as they please, says Thai media

Totally Ridiculous!
Thailand actively recruits >30 million tourists a year - about 1/2 the population of Thailand. Expecting a zero failure rate is unrealistic. Even if only .01% of tourists do something offensive that would still be 3,000 problems offending Thais. Thais need to get a thicker skin about these really minor screw ups and save the outrage for the really heinous stuff.
Why are the very most sacred sites open to Tourists in the first place? Because the Temples enjoy the income. The monastic body governs itself for the most part, and I doubt the government or social pressure could cause temples to shut their doors to tourists income. Clueless tourists are part of the deal.
Should these tourist know better - Not really - how much research is reasonable to expect for a two week holiday to a place you've never been?
Lighten up Thai society! If you are that uptight aim at the right solution - petition the very sacred Temples to close their doors to tourists - expecting perfection from 30 million visitors is unrealistic!
