  1. Human beings are basically pack animals, and we tend to go nuts without sufficient social interaction. That's why solitary confinement in prison is considered the most cruel level of punishment. Prolonged solitary confinement eventually drives most prisoners insane.

Add to that fear of infection, loss of livelihood and general uncertainty about the future - the covid has triggered a global mental health crisis on top of all the economic hardships.  Suicide rates in Thailand and many other places have skyrocketed ????

We got no choice but to cut each some slack and accept some whackyness until things improve.

So...., like every other high profile arrest, will this poor widow, the "perp", be obliged to re-enact her "crime" and dramatize her 4,165 days of overstay for the RTP to video?

Deporting her to her native Hungary from Thailand seems like a terrible fate given the Viktor Orbán dictatorship there.

I agree - I can't clearly visualize the crime without a reenactment photo. But who would do the finger pointing?

Are you talking about the fire stairs accessible from each floor ? I used to stay in one of those 30 story high rise buildings, not only are those stairwells one of the most depressing and solitary places to be but most of the doors were locked and you could never exit to any floors except the lobby or the roof...and it's a long way down. Credit to you if you can do it...

By Thai law every 5th floor fire exit must be unlocked so that people in the fire well have a chance to escape back into the building to try another exit if the stairway below is not passable. It took a lot of complaining to get our condo to conform with the law, but it's insane to lock all the doors. Hundreds of people could get trapped in the stairwell if they can't get all the way down to the ground floor exits.

Our building fire stair wells are not horribly unpleasant - there are windows and vents on every floor. With headphones it's a bit stuffy but tollerable . Solitary - YA that's the best part!  I've been walking the stairs for weeks with a mask in my pocket but there's never been anyone else in the stairwell.

  4. I've been climbing the stairs at my condo. My knees are bad so I walk up the stairs, take the elevator down, then do it again.  I've found it a surprisingly pleasing way to get an aerobic workout with a lot less knee pain than I get from walking. I usually swim laps, and now I'll keep doing some stairs even when the pool opens again ????

I have gotten my two jabs at MedPark.  The last one on July 3.  I found it to be a good experience, fairly quick and efficient.

The only thing I regret is I got two of the Sinovac.  They gave me a choice of Sinovac or Astra Zeneca.  The said at that time I probably could not get the second jab of Astra for probably 16 weeks.  I thought that was too long.  But I think the waiting time for the second one is sooner now.

Good luck getting the vaccine and what ever you choose to do.

My appointment at MedPark is Mid August. I wrote them this week and they said I could get AstraZeneca and the the wait time between doses would be 12 weeks.  Still a bit longer than i wish.

  6. The long term solution to the bigger problem ( a million street dogs in Thailand ) is sterilization so they can't reproduce. There are many private sector non-profits doing this work in communities in Thailand. Please consider a donation - or working directly with a group in your neighborhood to help identify dogs in your area that should be sterilized.

I did some.basic arithmetic. 386 divided by 7 is 55.14... Less than the normal average of 65.

Comparing covid deaths to road deaths is a little fanciful, I would suggest. How about comparing it to deaths caused by old age, heart attacks, cancer, flu?

Covid is killing significantly more people every day  than road accidents during Songkran week. That should be a sobering thought to anyone that still believes the real risk is minor and that restrictions are unwarranted.

  8. In normal times there are an average of 65 road fatalities per day in Thailand (2019). In that year the Songkran “7 dangerous days” totaled  386 death on Thai roadways.

Thailand just hit 90 reported Covid deaths per day. That's one Covid death every 16 minutes. That number is rising fast and probably significantly under reported.

Welcome to Thailand - If you thought the minivan ride was scary just wait till you see our Coivd numbers ????

That it is.  Which is why these are the halcyon days of vaccines.  Wait until 2023 when the vaccine plants are cranking out billions a year.  Vaccines in authoritarian countries will be essentially mandated (most countries will have fully moved to an authoritarian model of governance) and vaccines will be mandated on a 3 to 6 month revolving schedule as Big Pharma milks the new cash cow in a now Trillion dollar a year industry (Long Moderna)  They'll be using children names for variants (just like hurricanes) as they long ago ran out of Greek letters as periodic lock-downs and mandatory mask wearing is still the norm.  The unvaccinated will be blamed for the variants.  Small business will have been decimated most being a fond memory as malls, hypermarts, and corporate restaurants with their own delivery staff will now be the only option for those with vaccines.  Those without will languish in the ranks of unvaccinated apartheid.  Shunned, oppressed, perhaps imprisoned...or worse, as they are 'encouraged' by all means necessary to join the ranks of the vaccinated and add to Big Pharma's bottom line.  Cha-Ching!  The main-stream media will be nothing but unending fear.
Well, in my crystal ball at least.

"Well, in my crystal ball at least. "  Is that the left one or the right one?

if "must" that means it was condition for this donation.

I would think only the USA citizens at first, when all done, the rest for the USA allies (brits).

That would be all, not enough for the rest.

Foreign teachers will get their jab in late summer, very few elderly and sick getting now and within near future, but about half of expats will be at mercy of the second part of the vax program, middle/end of autumn

I'm American and wish you were right, but I think we're dreaming. Thinking about Thailand's priorities - "foreigners" could easily mean the thousands of construction and factory workers from Myanmar, Lao, Cambodia....these people mean much more to the Thai economy than we do. I'm not optimistic about this.

If you loose your bank book you need to go to the police station to report it lost. With the confirmation letter from the police the bank can issue a replacement bank book with all past transactions.

Are you sure about "All past transactions?" The last time I went into a branch to have my bank book updated they could only print the past 90 days of activity, and said there wasn't any way to print prior transactions. They said I could order bank statements going back further - but i'd have to request that in person at the branch where I opened the account.

    Yes.

I did my renewal last month and was handed an appointment slip for 19th August.

    Same for me.

When I asked for a receipt or stamp after completing the proof appointment she said it was in their computer but they don't provide a receipt or stamp. She said "Don't worry if there is any problem we can confirm again from your bank book".

I believe the appointment to confirm helps keep things very clear - but it is not a legal requirement as long as you can later prove that the financial requirement (800k  balance) has been met.  What if I lost my bank book...? er no idea.
