It’s certainly not the place it used to be. The past 9 / 10 years have made it into a ‘septic tank / pit hole. I’ve heard Phi Phi is also having to much tourism that the pollution from the amount of boats taking the tourists there ‘should be ‘ raising environmental concerns.

Ask any long term expat who has lived in Phuket for some time (with the eception of expats living in Rawai) and they will tell you Rawai is the low end of Phuket, not only geographically but in every sense.

Stabbings, robberies, burglaries, Rawai has always been plagued with this over the years.

I am still a little bit confused about the arrest reasons not living at the registered address and not filing the 90 days report. I was under the impression that it is just a 2000 baht fine?

Really ? It’s meant to be a fine of 2,000 for not staying in the same address as registered at the immigration ? That would mean I’ve dodged around 12,000 baht in fines over the past 14 days.

I’ve probably stayed at my registered address for about 12 to 15 days over the past year, why have I not been arrested yet ?

Its "mia noi" or little wife/girlfriend, the main wife then becomes "Mia luang" (The boss basically ????)

Apparently, in years gone by, men would take many "mia noi" (for sex) with permission from Mia Luang and long as she remained Mia Luang and the home or her position was not threatened by them. (Just a tit bit of info ????)

Knew I was born too late !

Exactly as you say, in years gone by, like 40 or 50 years ago. Try it nowadays and see what happens to your mid to lower body parts !

Totally based on a complete misunderstanding of the requirements for extensions.

Sent from my Lenovo A7020a48 using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app

Jingthing my understanding is that you are no longer able to get an extension of stay (currently if you are from the UK) based on having funds overseas, starting from 1st January, instead you will need to go down the route of having 400/800K in a Thai bank. If I have read wrong and this is not the case I apologise.

  5. 15 years I’ve been living in Thailand yet I was unaware you could stay here based on having money in your home country, with a letter from your embassy clarifying it. I’m surprised they never stopped this a long time ago, seems to go against all logic.

Let’s face it, what use is the money in another country when you get in to trouble. If your semi-unconscious in a hospital with a 100K hospital bill it’s just a matter of handing your ATM card over to someone, 10 mins later the cash is there.

The Thai authorities will see this as much quicker and more convenient than waiting around for you to find a decent internet connection to log into your overseas account, and then wait another 4 or 5 days for the money to arrive.

Cash is king, and if you don’t have immediate access to it you don’t have it !

And why it that, I extended my visa 3 days ago (marriage) which was the 17th time, took 35 minutes from sitting down at the desk to walking out the door, included in the time was a couple of minutes while the house location map was redrawn by the IO. So what are you doing wrong?

Mmm.. probably not living near and visiting the same immigration office as you ? Just a wild guess.

I am amazed that Canadians make up the largest group of foreigners in Thailand. I rarely ever meet another hoser here. I do see a lot of folks from Burma, Cambodia, Laos, China, Europe and Australia though

These figures are possibly based on the Nationalaities of foreigners who are actually registered as staying here, Canadians being the most honest who have entered and remained in the country by the correct channels. Sadly, as anyone who has lived here so long will tell you, they will be the ones who will be targeted, the ones that abide by the rules.

The other 1 million Burmese, Cambodian and Indians etc who entered/remain here illegally won’t be touched (with the exception of big joke rounding up a hand full every now and then).

Those are prices from 15 years ago, I was quoted anywhere from 25,000-50,000 bhat these days from visa agents in Pattaya for under the table extensions as they all say its very hard these days not same as before lol..... Think IL stick with getting the Non O visas at neighboring countries.

For the past 12 years my wife has been getting my 1 year extension for 1,900 baht (which is how much it costs), but I now refuse to pay that and have reverted back to a multiple Non O visa. I refuse to give any money to the immigration.

If any clampdown does happen it will be simply game over for the visa agents, and more business for the embassies and consulates in Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia etc.

Well here's an interesting situation. The Thai police don't believe the girls story. However, No one at all, believes the Thai Police. And given everyone expected them to say they didn't believe the girls story, in fact were saying it before they even checked it, we are back to square one.

This is because in Thailand you are regarded as guilty unless proven innocent, in this case the girl was immediately guilty of lying, as no evidence was found (not even a report made) the guilty verdict still stands.

Ageee or disagree, but this is the mentality of the Thai police force, and nothing will change for the foreseeable future.

I for one would be happy to see the publisher of the story prosecuted, but only of course if the headline was somewhere along the lines of “girl makes claim of rape after visit to Koh Tao”, and not “girl raped in Koh Tao”.

There are far too many young western girls visiting Thailand who get too drunk and up making mistakes they regret, publishers like Samui Times need to be aware of this.

Likely story is girl gets blind drunk, goes behind boyfriends back and has sex with another guy (possibly Thai), loses her phone in the process which mummy bought for her. She gets home where mother & boyfriend are pi*sssd off demanding to know what happened, girl immediately looks for an out and cries rape, knowing she has a chance coz it happened in a place that has been known for such incidents, mother believes her as she is an angel and would never lie.

    > Persons who enter Thailand to operate business

this needs clarification - if I am a director of the company, I do not need the work permit anymore to get a Non-B Visa? I'd love to get rid of that hassle.

I would also be keen for clarification on this. At the moment I am operating my wife’s business while she works full time for another company, does this mean I don’t need a work permit ?

  11. Why do these threads quickly turn into an opportunity for everyone (including the OP) to say their GF’s never ask for money ?  I’m also wondering why the OP felt the need to state this.

To the OP,  the fact she doesn’t ask you for money does not imply she is telling the truth.

Thai woman nearly always lie about why they broke up with the ex, they will always cry hard done by and will seek attention from the next, even if it includes making up stories about the ex being a junky and beating her.

She needs your emotional support, she knows she will not get this if she tells you she was dumped for banging her ex husbands best mate.

  12. This is another classic example of racist behaviour from the Thai police.

Had this been a young 20 year old white English boy on a similar holiday the girl probably would not have cried foul, if she did cry foul the police would not have taken any interest, they would have given her a couple of paracetamols and advised her to sleep off the hangover.

The only reason the police made the effort to track this guy down was because of his skin colour, because he is of the variety frowned upon by the top police man Big Joke.

If I was a young European/Black African male the last place I would be is holidaying in Thailand trying to pick up white chicks.

  13. This is so simple to fix; if you are a Farang and live permanently in one place start spending the night out in different places and be sure to report these different places.
If a thousand of you spend 3 nights out a month, that's 9000 new pieces of paper generated. If ten thousand of you do this 3 times a month that's an additional 90,000 pieces of paper. My bet, is that in less than a month Farangs that believe this is ridiculous  could bring the entire system crashing down. Hell every time you leave the house and go to the grocery or to a restaurant report a change of location.

Or just completely ignore what this immigration chief is saying. I know what would be easier.

I was right in everything you should be less negative and thank me Mr grumpy!

The validity of the 6 month multiple entry visa is  for 6 months or 180 days from when you get it. A sixty day multiple entry visa ( which does not exist ) would only be good for sixty days. So YOU are wrong in that account or not understanding. If you want a METV to be good for 6 months then it would require just one border hop and in/ out on same day is ok.

Your question was : There is a six month tourist visa?

I told you there is a six month multiple entry tourist visa.  It can actually last 9 months as well

If you want to travel a lot which MANY people do in and out of Thailand it is even more convenient with a METV.

    You are very welcome!!

Firstly I am not your typical TV member who scours posts looking to correct people. My question if there was a 6 month tourist visa was not out of sarcasm, I genuinely believed for a minute that there was a 6 months tourist visa, i.e. a visa that would allow you to enter and remain in the kingdom for 6 months without any hassle, which was indicated by michelsavage in his initial post.

Nothing negative about affirming that there is no such thing as a 6 month tourist visa, for anyone out there who may think there is.

  15. Yes there is a small office where you can apply for a re-entry permit. They have the application form, take your photo using a decent DSLR.
Just bear in mind you must allow enough time for them to complete all the paperwork.
I would suggest that you allow for 1 x hour.

Thanks, I’m aware there is an office to apply for a re-entry, I’ve done it before, my question was is there a photo shop in the airport to get the photos.

Sorry I don’t know what a DSLR is.
