"Humanity is on thin ice - and that ice is melting fast."

Not surprise. Climate change caused disruptions in the climate resulting in unusual large snowfalls in some areas. Surveys of the entire ice sheet show overall ice loss is eclipsing new snowfall. -
Sri Lanka secures $2.9bn IMF bailout for struggling economy
Eric Loh replied to Social Media's topic in World News
The $2.9 billion IMF loan will help to keep the government running but is far from sufficient to pay for the $51 billion in foreign debt that pushed the country into a financial crisis. The economy will recover but will need re-structuring of debts and generosity from Japan, ADB and China. China has confirmed offer to Sri Lanka of debt moratorium for 2 years. That's only 10% of the foreign debts. The economy has to be re-structured as the country is spending more than it can earn. Corruption takes a big chunk off the economy. Nice country and people. -
Trump’s chilling warning of what will happen after his indictment
Eric Loh replied to Social Media's topic in World News
You posted this "It is not illegal to "incite protest" and I replied within that legal context. Incite is a riot defination and calls for people to behave in a violent or illegal way. In any case, Trump called for protest has meet with muted reactions from supporters with some of his ardent loyalists dismissing the idea as a waste of time. People are waking up to his antics and see him more as a liability to the party and to the country. -
Trump’s chilling warning of what will happen after his indictment
Eric Loh replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Sorry mate, you so wrong. Depending on the jurisdiction, some or all types of incitement may be illegal. Even when harm may or may not have actually occurred, they are illegal under inchoate offense. Trump’s past history of incitements resulting in violence have a negative impact should he be investigated for incitement. -
Donald Trump says he expects to be arrested on Tuesday
Eric Loh replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Well you get what you sow. Trump's not exactly followed the rules of etiquette nor neither is he a person with decorum but an inmature, cursing and expletives filled profanity every time he open his mouth or post a tweet. -
Pheu Thai’s Paetongtarn voted the favourite candidate for PM – Nida Poll
Eric Loh replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
She may be the favourite among the public but may not necessarily be the choice for the both Houses. Assuming Pheu Thai and Move Forward win big and negate the senate votes, it will still be a delicate political and economic adjustment after the election. Doubt Thaksin will have her untested daughter in such a fluid situation. Th coalition parties similarly not convince that Paetongtarn is ready for such a big job. Nevertheless she will be groomed for that position in the future. -

Good reason why the judge should deny bail.Trump is simply an idiot acting on his impulse and not listening to his legal advisers. This Mahattan case is low-level felony and his attempt to incite protest will have a huge bearing on whether bail will be granted for other more serious charges. -
Perhaps. However this part of the poll suggest that Trump election denialism is also losing support in tandem with Fox’s trust deficit. 13% of Fox Viewers said they no longer felt the 2020 election was stolen. Meanwhile, 50% still believe it was, while 37% said it had no impact and they still believe the election was fairly held.

Turkey's Erdogan seals deal on Finland joining Nato

May election which will be very close, economic woes, rebuilding after earthquake and foreign policies may have influence him to change his mind. All above will need friendly hands from EU countries. -
Lame excuse you not following. You have a serial denier since the Mar-la-go legal search. Seized documents included all 3 classifications, confidential, secret and top secret. Intelligence of foreign powers defense and nuclear capabilities in these documents just some of the reported information in the documents seized. https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2022/10/21/trump-documents-mar-a-lago-iran-china/

Fox viewers trust has been eroded by revelation in the lawsuits. Trust in Carlson and Hannity has also been on a decline. Decline may not be a deluge but still indicate that doubts have crept into the minds of some viewers. Discoveries during both court cases may open up more minds of Fox’s viewers for rational thinking. https://www.poynter.org/newsletters/2023/fox-news-viewers-survey-trust-network-less/

US banks sitting on unrealized losses of $620 billion

Agree and add that oversea borrowings in USD to lend to real estate projects, Baht peg and the relatively small foreign reserves were also contributory factors to the 1997 financial crisis. -
Pheu Thai Unlikely To Reach 310-MPs Target: KPI Executive
Eric Loh replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Pheu Thai chance of reaching 310 mps looks brighter after the defection of the Sam Mitr faction. Central Plains with 139 seats and Chonburi with 10 seats are fair game for Phue Thai as the Sam Mitr factions currently are incumbent parliamentarians in many of the constituencies. -
Silicon Valley Bank collapses after failing to raise capital

Signature Bank has been a go-to lender to the Trump family. Would that qualify them as politically aligned as well as woke? -
Biden says anti-trans laws are 'close to sinful'
Eric Loh replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Not when transgender athletics received medical treatment to lower their testosterone levels, studies have shown. Transgender athletics have been competing in Olympics. Should not be a sledge-hammer approach to disallow transgenders in sport. -

Republicans are being held hostage by their base and their conservative policies placate the base but short on solutions. They are a backward looking party. -
Biden says anti-trans laws are 'close to sinful'

Should have better criteria for transgender athletes not a discriminating outright ban. The Olympic criteria for transgender athletes would be a good start. -
Trump again lashes out at Pence, blames him for Jan. 6 riot
Eric Loh replied to Scott's topic in World News
Infamous words from the orange buffon when told to step aside after explicit foul language video. "I never withdraw. I've never withdrawn in my life". He doesn't play by any rule and a snowball chance in hell that he will step aside for party sake. It will be a bitter Republican Party primaries like no one has ever seen. The party will probably will never be the same after this primaries. -
Probably true in those early years after WW2 but not after a partial withdrawal of the US Forces in the 1950s. Subsequently Germany requested and pay for the presence of military personnels. The word occupation has since ended.
