Who said the car was rented?

What makes him a tourist? Maybe just his visa?

The police officer's motorbike had no license plate at all

Yet, you condemn the guy to a prison sentence. What if it's found out that the car driver had not a trace of alcohol or other substance and that it was an accident at 2:40am.

Then again, i'm sure you'll find some other answers.

It is about paying due respect to others. Evidently this idiot didn't. Had he been driving get slower maybe there would not have been the tragic accident.

Before anyone says maybe he wasn't driving get fast just look at the front of the car. You don't get that amount of damage to a Mercedes if you are driving slowly.

Lock him up and throw away the key

Ridiculous idea. What the police need to do is get out on the roads during the time of day when most drunk driving accidents occur and run breathalyser checks on anyone driving too fast or erratically.

And if they refuse arrest them for obstructing the police (and get away from status being an excuse)

  3. Believable and here is why. If they wanted they would have stopped him leaving Hong Kong. Would have been low profile.

On the other hand it could have sparked more demonstrations had the Chinese government done that.

If Thailand did they would be helping China. China doesn't really care what the world thinks as does Thailand.  Difference is China has far more power in the world than Thailand.

I would go for Thailand being the one to send him back not China. If he was allowed into Thailand he may start a demonstration.

  4. Not sure if helps but I will tell what I know. I obtained a settlement visa for my Thai wife quite a few years ago so things have probably changed.

At the British Embassy we obtained a 2 year visa. With that she had to spend at least a month in the UK before renewal but could come and go as she wanted. After 2 years I wrote to the Home Office asking for a settlement visa and surprisingly they issued her with one.

One of the differences is I am British, also the stupid test that is now in existance did not apply at the time we applied for the visa.

What I remember is the Embassy does not issue the full settlement the visa,  that is issued by the Home Office of ceiling you are in the UK.

Not sure if this helps but it is the best I can offer you. Good luck anyway

Shocked, shocked to my core.   About the driving incident ?  No, no... that there are actually people employed as driving instructors in Thailand.  Never would have believed it...

Sad I know but true. When my wife passed her test I know had to teach her how to drive, now she is definitely up to European standards
