technically it is 'exerting energy' that needs a work permit. So the next time you pick your nose, make sure you have a work permit.

The definition is so broad that it catches everything. Mowing your lawn, washing your car, installing a new light bulb etc.

It is up to the officer to make that decision but technically any 'exertion of energy' is considered work that needs a work permit.

It is ridiculous and that is why it is not really enforced for someone who is painting their own house etc.

If an angry neighbor (or even worse a competitor) however wants to make problems for you then it can become a real problem.

I have painted many houses and walls. I get my kids and wife to help me. The work gets done faster and it is then not only you working which can be seen as real work.

On that basis walking should also need a work permit as you exert energy. I can see where you are going on this but there has to be a limit as my rather silly example illustrates

Are the retail prices the same here in Thailand? I do not want to walk in a Rolex shop here just to find out they have the Milgauss Z-Blue (do they have it here?) but just 50,000 more expensive than in Europe.

If you go to the Rolex site on the Internet for Thailand they have the prices there so you can check

If you read a little more in the topic you will find he wants to open the account in preparation for a visa/extension of stay and is preparing to register his marriage.

Preparation is one thing I agree but it reads that he was applying for a visa based on marriage. Getting things together for it is fine I would not disagree with that, preparation goes a long way to easing the path

I have been considering doing this for a while but don't know where to begin. I have a degree from Caltech, and would be very interested in helping to proofread scientific papers, particularly physics and mathematics, before they get published. I have some time right now and need some extra money.

Does anyone have a recommendation on what I should do and where I should go to try and get involved in this?

You could try the IET in the UK. I believe they are always asking for reviewers of papers

I totally agree 24/7 protection and monitoring of all calls to their mobiles. I guarantee the scum bag will start that process with threatening calls from his hired Thai mafia ASAP and if one call made forget the financial fine. as he can easily afford, double his gaol/jail sentence as punishment.

I would love to say you are wrong but you are not. He is a brave man and deserves all the protection he can get

Not a hero perhaps, but a man with true convictions and sense of duty that

cant be intimidated or bought by the rich, famous and the influential , Thailand

can sure do with many more like him....

In Thailand the title hero is justified. People go missing or worse for less than this guy is doing

I have worked for them in myanmar. Things i have seen. ?

The weird thing is the moguls normally head to burma for hunting. Just across the border they pay Karen or Mon groups or tatmadaw and they can shoot whatever tyey want. At the end of the fun they literally check out at border and pay fixed prices per carcass. That includes hunting in myanmar protected areas entering with Thai 4x4  ???

A friend of mine also worked for them and he had the same opinion as yourself
