Around 20 years ago I was lucky enough to land a job in Russia which allowed me to live there for 8 years - some of the greatest and most enduring friendships I have ever had are with Russians. Here's the surprising thing I learned about Russians - some are fat, some are thin; some are tall, some are less tall. Much like every other country in the world, there are some d*cks amongst them, whereas the majority are decent and totally normal. They may have cultural norms which differ to yours - it took me much too long, for instance, not to get sarky when I would hold a door open for someone and they would sail past me without saying thank-you. But the problem was mine - it is not expected in Russian culture to thank someone for holding a door for them, so why would they do it?

Buckingham Palace gives no comment on Meghan and Harry’s NYC car chase
RuamRudy replied to webfact's topic in World News
Isn't it strange that 2 different people might have totally different reactions to an event, especially with they were are very different stages of childhood development when the event occurred. But it was me who made the comparison - I can assure that I am not Harry Windsor so it's a bit unfair of you to blame him for my post. That's how it works in the real world, unfortunately. You see, news outlets such as the Express or The Mail, GB News etc - they rely on the hatred and unfounded outrage that certain unhinged members of society hold for those not 100% like them, so those scummy news outlets foster said outrage in order to attract attention, thus generating advertising revenue. As long as there are people incandescent that Harry has the temerity to marry a non white, non English, these 'news' organisations will continue to feed those people with all the copy needed to keep their blood pressure above 140 over 90. And as we have seen so many times before, there is no depths so low for our media won't stoop to. -

Not really, but you really have most definitely bought into the narrative that non white, non English must be inferior. -

Certainly there were factors which exacerbated the outcome, but the main point is that there would have probably not have been a crash if the paparazzi were not chasing her car. -

To be fair, they chased his mother in similar circumstances and that didn't end too well for her or for 9-year old Harry either, -

Did you miss the bit in the article where it stated (my emphasis): "For at least the few minutes they were in Mr Singh's car, he did not believe they were in danger."? Or the bit where he said: "They looked nervous, I think they were being chased the whole day or something,"? Confirmation bias strikes again, methinks. -

I was a bit young to get into Neil Young when he was fresher of face, but thanks to my mate's mum having lots of his records, we would have after pub closing parties at his place and I would dominate the record player with NY records. This takes me back 30 years to those days. -

A truly wonderful cover of Lost in Music by The Fall -
It is not a case of pick your side - it is recognising that a politician of genuinely staggering incompetence and a total lack of self-awareness is parading herself on the world stage, in one of the most fragile of geopolitical spats, as if she is Kofi Annan, whereas the reality is that she is very, very out of her depth. You don't send a clown to perform open heart surgery. She has no business there.

UK government scraps plan to replace all EU laws by the end of 2023
RuamRudy replied to onthedarkside's topic in World News
The point is clear - it is not correct to state, as was posted earlier, that' the British do what we want' as if brexit had universal support. We did not vote en masse so any suggestion that there was universal support is an insult to those of us who could see its inherent stupidity. -

I am the one stating fact. You seem intent on creating a false narrative. I appreciate it must be difficult to accept, but it is an undeniable truth - a minority of the electorate voted in favour of brexit. -

A minority of the UK electorate did. -

I don't understand. You stated that I was twisting facts. What are the facts that you think I have twisted? -

But what is does not give anyone is the right to say that the UK electorate wanted brexit. Clearly only a minority were rallied by the Russians in 2016, but sadly the majority were not sufficiently enthused to prevent the disaster that unfolded. As for now, I think most people (the lying spivs who sold you the pig on the poke excluded) are experiencing the folly of brexit. Whether they were engaged enough in 2016 is irrelevant. The disaster affects most of us.
