  1. Thanks so much for the link, I'll check it out straight away!!

And, no its not a troll post but thanks for looking just past your advanced member wisdom to drop a comment like that on my first post. Maybe I should know what my adventure will run but thought I'd start here first. Why the unfriendly reply?

Doesn't really matter I guess, is there anyone else wondering if I'm just lonely enough to waste my time "troll" posting stupid questions? If so, rest assured that's not the case. I was just wondering if someone might have some insight. Maybe Thai Visa isn't the place for visa questions.

    Once again, cheers

Basically you will find that a " letter of invitation " will be what is required with you accepting financial responsibility for all her expenses.

She must be able to show something that is super stable in her life in Thailand. IE job university registration for up coming semesters and family responsibilities IE land ownership.

It has to be convincing enough to make immigration believe she will return to Thailand.

  2. Easy - some have it, some don't. You'll know if you have it cause the security guard and parking attendants wai twice... smile.png

Has anyone brought up the light/white skinned Thai's verses the darker skinned Thais????? According to my copper tanned wife; the light skinned Thai's are favored for key roles in tv/movies and singing roles and generally are considered upper class.

  3. Not very clear information (thanks Thailand) but thanks, OP, for sharing.

Not very clear what the OP is trying to convey here either????? Spousal 60 day visa??? Is that a tourist visa to visit your wife??? What happened to the marriage visa in this topics submission that is good for a year???? Never saw word one related to this threads topic SPOUSE VISA. Whats that? Spouse = marriage = one year visa??

  4. Although it is sad to see a teenager beat up, I fail to see what this has to do with Thailand. He was not assaulted by Thai men. It just happened to be on Samui during a Full Moon Party.

I do not mean to sound callous, but these kind of assaults happen every single weekend in Australia, the UK, Ireland etc.

Young men, pissed up (maybe some drugs involved) out on the town often leads to senseless violence.

Lets put things in perspective, shall we? I am happy to see that Samui police managed to catch the perps.

Reading through this whole thread amny have gone beyond the photo of a fat lipped and black eyes Jack to teeth out hit with a bottle and an ashtray. TOOOOO trying to get visa's rebuffed to American Univ. What is happening to TV??? The kid got his ass kicked and told daddy he was innocent of all things. Come on people specially Global Moderators n this thread advocating the hangings too WAKE UP> Life is for the living and not always pretty.

It doesn't matter if he provoked them. Assaulting someone over a discussion isn't acceptable.

Oh yes it does... A provoked assault can get you off with a slap on the wrist while and unprovoked assault can get the proverbial book thrown at you in any North American or European court.

  5. If Hamas stops firing rockets, Israel will stop responding to them. No civilized country would put up with its children being kidnapped and murdered and thousands of rockets being aimed at its cities by a terrorist group that has been calling for its destruction for decades. Yes, Israel's defensive measures are mostly working, but that is no thanks to Hamas, who want to murder as many innocent civilians as they can and have done so before the separation wall and Iron Dome became so effective at stopping their terrorist strikes.

This much we know: Israel lives under constant threat from terrorists who would like nothing better than to exterminate the Jewish state that they consider an outright abomination.
This much we have also come to understand: In polite society, it is increasingly fashionable to roll one’s eyes or outright indict Israel for daring to defend itself against those who aim to indiscriminately kill its people and undermine its right to exist.

The cycle continues as Hamas fires hundreds of rockets at Israeli cities, and Israel responds with far more precise and effective salvos at terrorists. All too predictably, international condemnation is starting to come Israel’s way.

The name of that game is that the Sledgehammer is meant to be a deterrent but for the no mind Hamas they seem to forget the fact that they will always be slapped silly and sent to their rooms without any food. It is pure stupidity and they get their own people killed for no reason.

  7. 200,000 baht carrying around in a bag is truly idiotic really. I would certainly be taking more care of my bag if I had that sort of cash in it.

Good on the taxi driver, it's nice to see. It also proves there are still good people out there.

It is barely $5,000 dollars. Considering the cost of 3 to 5 stars these days in accommodation and restaurants and the fact you are usually allowed departure and arrival with $10,000 or more. Not to much to be carrying at all specially considering lack of chip technology on plastic here.

  9. Press the U.S. Embassy - not sure where the perpetrators are from, or from where their visas were (or are in the process) of being issued, but definitely reach out:

    http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/mobile//contact.html

They'll be receptive if you have specific information that would make the attackers inadmissible. A conviction is not always necessary to jam them up at the visa issuing stage, either. Same to revoke an already issued visa.

The State Department issues the visa but U.S. Customs and Border Protection makes the decision at the airport whether or not to let them enter into the U.S. I suppose it couldn't hurt to give them a heads up, especially if visas have been issued and these pukes are getting ready to start university soon. The only local Thai number I can find for CBP is +662-205-5391.

    Best of luck...

Mr. Wang and Mr. Chang( full names cannot be disclosed for legal reasons) planned to attend university as undergraduates at Purdue and Cornell Universities in the United States respectively.

Hope they will not be granted visas with a criminal record.

WOW! Your very first post and your advocating hanging someone without a trial... Ever hear of the provoked or unprovoked laws governing assaults in N. America???

  10. I took the liberty to forward the news link to Cornell and Purdue admissions.

Maybe they will reconsider admitting Mr. Chang and Mr. Wang. Your additional emails may help.

If their folks have money......both Cornell and Purdue will not bat an eyelid at any dubious record for either boy, in a foreign country.....they'll go straight through!

Are you kidding me? These Universities have thousands of applicants and don't need the money. They only take the brightest students that have shown scholastic aptitude and exemplary behaviour. They don't need nor want young wanna be gangsters.

Back to the op, let's hope the son heals well.

I wish you were correct, however, You have not kept pace with the profit motive of todays Institutions of Higher Learning,

Do you honestly think they are going to take action on a post from Thailand about an opinion piece written by someone from Australia that provides two fictitious names of an incident that may or may not have occurred and that no court action has determined the guilt of either of the two alleged assailants?

Do you have any idea what the tuition rate is for non-American students?

But don't take my word for it. By all means follow up on this thread with the outcome of this effort in a couple of months after classes have started ;-)

    Cheers

How can a normal thinking man believe the short explanation of Jack dancing, minding his own business, being attacked by 2 people for no reason at all. There had to be words, gestures and or bad body language happening. Who was the girl he was dancing with???? Didn't see a thing????

Crap loads of Chinese students at Purdue so I would assume lots of Wang's and Chang's. I know some people at my former University if I had the full name of the one who is going there I would throw up a red flag.

Whats this line of crap about?????? Guilty already???? Lets hang them before a verdict is in??? Get real folks.

  12. 1) Did you qualify through Hawaii Health Connector (the ACA subsidized Plan)?

    yes

    2) What is your first day of enrollment/coverage?

I can't enroll until Nov 15 and coverage doesn't begin until 1/1/15. I don't know if I qualify for a subsidy or not.

    3) You are enrolled in an "Indivudual" Plan?

    yes

    4) They said "Out of Network" coverage "includes" Thailand?

yes - using Blue Cross there will be direct payment. Otherwise I must pay and they will reimburse me.

    5) What instructions did they provide to process a claim? You pay and they reimburse you?

    see #4

The cheapest plan is $350/mo with a $6,350 deductible - then 100% payment. The plans get more liberal and max out at $830/mo. I'm more interested in the cheap plan - in case something catastrophic occurs.

Just let me die for those rates. Canada has nothing for offshore with pre existing and over 65 at deaths door insurance companies think....and in fact stay gone more than 6 months and lose pensions tell them and have an automatic tax withheld 0f 25%

  13. OP, as you are so tight, are you ever able to take a leak?

One suspects there are moths in the OP's wallet that haven't learned to fly yet

    attachicon.gifmoth.jpg

So cheap but possibly the off spring of the family who invented copper wire when they fought over their first penny.

  14. My girlfriend is a very hard worker. She works 40-50 hours a week. Its just that she doesn't make a lot of money.

I forgot to mention that we went to a soccer game last week. Free VIP seats. I didn't pay a dime. Free food/beer and a ride to the game.

    Hmm... Maybe I am cheap.

DID all that gratis come from her other boyfriend?

  15. Where are you located?

FYI, I just did a Google for: bangkok pacemaker clinic

    Lots of hits.

    Mac

Live in Lampang city area and hour from Chaing Mai.

I am wondering now if your aware of where I might get the heart medicine called Metoprolol. Full name (generic) is Metoprolol Tartrate and the patented name is Mylan-Metoprolol (Type L)

  16. It's not an issue of a "cliinic" but of a cardiologist specializing in electrophysiology/ elcetrical disturbances of heart rhythm, of which there are a number in Thailand. Where do you live?

I could use one near or in Chaing Mai area as I live an hour away from CM. I could also use a source for the electrical disturbance medicine..called Metoprolol. Full name (generic) is Metoprolol Tartrate and the patented name is Mylan-Metoprolol (Type L)
