  1. The OP should brush up on the Thai citizenship laws governing his Thai national wife. The law states that if a Thai takes the citizenship of another country then they lose their rights and privileges of their Thai citizenship. So I advise that mum's the word and proper use of the 2 passports would be the new rules for this OP 's wife.

You are wrong. There is no Thai law that forbids Thai's having dual nationalities.

Actually I DO stand corrected but the Canadian web site needs a correction as well. I was seeking information on this very topic re: duel citizenship and the Services Canada site led me astray saying it is forbidden in Thailand and Japan.

  2. Lots of Philippine teachers willing to teach at lower rates. English not greatest and accent not best but cheap teachers all the same.

Very true. The Filipinos are willing and eager to work for half the pay and allowances Western foreigners get and many of the Filipinos hold degrees in English. The key point is that many of the Filipinos speak and write better English than their Western counterparts--rather than argue with me, just go over the TV forums about teaching English in Thailand and see how many times the moderators had to intervene because the current or prospective Western "English teacher" couldn't put together a simple sentence and was being ridiculed by other TV posters.

I guess I will have to dig it up again and post it.

That is untrue, there is no loss of privileges. For Thailand, dual citizenship has been legal since 1992.

Attaching a string thread with all suggesting it is legal does not make it so hotshot. I suggest all should check for the laws. We are only going by the Consulate's advice.

  5. I am a winner of the online dating game. Married now from and online dating site. Beautiful Thai lady 34 years my junior who is testing for citizenship this Tuesday in Canada. All I can suggest to anyone is to set your own ground rules for yourself and do not let money enter the picture. In my case I did offer money when it was needed for medical and when my offer was refused I knew I had keeper.

  7. Nice post but for every woman's life that changes for the better, there is one that changes for the worse. I've met literally hundreds that have got addicted to drugs and alcohol.

Fair enough there is a place where all that want this prostitution disguised as something else can be together by a dirty sea.

Myself, I'd hope that I got wiser as I reached my final years.

In this country, there is a tradition of older retired men practicing renunciation.

It embarrasses me to have fellow countrymen who instead of utilizing all the great opportunities in Thailand to detach from worldy attachments before they die, choose to live in a brothel. Attachments to worldly pleasures are deceptive and don't give real satisfaction, but cause suffering.

There ain't no fool like an old fool.

all your opportunities dont seem to have taught you much about the 3 rd precept

    What are you on about?

    BTW, I'm not a Buddhist.

Here in is the FOOL of which is spoken of in your post. How you dare find fault with the chosen enjoyment of others, no matter what year they are in. Women of the evening have made their choices as well; whether it be sex trade, drugs or alcoholism et all. Enjoy your disgust and reclusive final years fool.

  8. I have seen that everywhere: running a bar/restaurant is easy, after all I have been and eaten and drunk in many establishments. And the bucks in the till in the evening are pure profit, my mates come over every night and eat and drink for free, I do not know that there is a painfully low season, I do not know how to cost a menu item, and on and on.

These restaurants and bars have a habit of disappearing very quickly.

Oh, and I have been working in the hospitality business for 30 years and still wouldn't open a restaurant (except as a hobby when I retire), I much rather have a guaranteed salary in my pocket at the end of every month.

90% of restaurants /bars fail their first year and if there is an owner operator then expect 18 hour days, sore feet and alcohol poisoning, bankruptcy and depression.

  9. I think you may be a bit naive about Thailand...good luck with your adventure...

    way way way naive

but come anyways....because even if you don't have a job, there are so many foreigners here who all chip in to take care of those less fortunate until they get on their feet. So, don't wait....come now. You can always rely on a foreigner to pick up the first tab. Cheers.

Foreigners helping others less fortunate????? Don't you mean help those less intelligent who put themselves into predicaments? BTW where are these foreigners found in case I fall on my face???

  10. Am having implants myself. 60,000 Bt each.

If the bone isn't thick enough, they do a graft. Another 49,000 Bt.

Wouldn't recommend a bridge as it isn't anywhere near as strong as an implant. Go with the implant if you can afford it; it's for life.

The 60k is half the price they want in Canuck land

  11. 1. What really bothers me are farangs who assume most Thais can't really understand English.

    2. They don't assume you're native English speaker (how would they know exactly what country you're from anyway?), but they do assume you speak English, which you probably do, right?

    3. Ideally, yes, but if you foreigners speak so poor Thai, it may be better for us to speak to you in English instead to save time and get on with the business. Our English may be poor, but consider this that your Thai may also be poor. In this case, instead of getting annoyed by a Thai who are unwilling to put up and understand your poor Thai, perhaps you should just get on with your business and try to understand our poor English instead?

For example, if you was gonna buy some "gai yaang", and the vendor replied you "yoo wan fait chikken?", just say "yes", instead of getting annoyed?

    4. If you want to practice Thai, hire a tutor or something. Instead of getting annoyed of that fried chicken vendor who refuse to let you practice your Thai. Also, think it this way, that chicken vendor may simply be trying to practice her English with you.

Me too. The international language of travel and commerce in ENGLISH

  12. Doesn't matter what I think. It's what you think that counts. If you think she is two timing you. Forget her and move on. Your never trust her in the future.

Many Thai girls have male friends from their University days. They stick like glue together after graduation. Many of the guys are gay from my wife's graduating class. I have met many some are really hard to take and others are a real hoot.

You either trust or your don't its all up to you. This forum won't give you any resolve.

  13. We have had to cancel a regional conference next week as a result of this. Many were still prepared to travel but the travel advisories from HK and Singapore are so harsh (one wonders why...) nobody from there would come.

Crying shame , we have spent 2 years convincing them to use Bangkok as a regional training centre and then this ! At present , we have another training planned here in a couple of months and I am fighting to keep that as planned for the time being. If that gets cancelled as well, then I think that will be Bangkok ruled out as a conference destination for my organization for a couple of years.

I think a dark few months for tourism and MICE lays ahead...

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Are you some kind of booking agent or just a lowly conference attendee? Who is we and who is them? "we have spent 2 years convincing them to use Bangkok as a regional training centre" What is your organization??, " ruled out as a conference destination for my organization for a couple of years."

  14. bolllox

i have friends who direct the operations of an International hotel chain in Thailand ..a massive 90% drop in bookings, plus cancelations of pre made bookings are over 60% …this is just the start, and anyone who believes the Army will give back power anytime soon is deluded

I always wanted to be an unfazed tourist when I grew up but now I am an unfazed expat. Oh gee why should we care about the economic impact of the lagging tourist money or the Hiltons of the world??

  15. If you mean women who have no significant male friends, and spend most of their time with other women; then I would say the place is crawling with 'em.

The longer I live in Ampour Phimai, and the more I see of the character of the MAJORITY (note, not all) of the masculine gender; I would probably veer towards appearing lesbian myself under similar circumstances.

That said, I dislike lesbians, and met none during my time in Thailand exploring bars, massage parlours and night clubs.

The thai woman I have spent the last 8 years with still shows zero signs of lesbianism, phew.

Nonsense. Its Latent in all women. A recent study conducted found that 43% of women from ages 18 to 40 admitted to same sex relationships. Same study for men was 2%
